This would have been a 4 or 5 if it wasn't for the ATV noise from trails nearby. Perhaps Sunday mornings are not the best time to go. When it was quiet, it was lovely with the sound of birds, water and wind.

Don't let the hard rating deter you if your a moderate hiker. There were a couple non life threatening challenges, but that's it. We did the loop counterclockwise which was a slower incline, steeper decline. At one point going down, it felt like we were walking on ball bearings. Going the other way would solve this problem.

Table rock trail leading up to the big white cross was very nice and semi challenging for beginners. I'm a trail runner so this was too easy for me so I decided to add on 3 other trails in the same area. I managed to find my way to Big Rock and also the Peneteniary trail. As I was climbing up, I would catch a glimpse of the awesome views of the hills and of downtown Boise. I'm also from out of state so coming here as a female on my own was not an issue for me. on a Thursday morning at 6:45 a.m. there were many other hikers/ runners. This place is awesome because you can add to the Table rock trail. I parked at the Parking lot by the Historic Peneteniary. From the parking lot to the cross it is about a mile and a half. When you get to the top, there's great views plus benches to sit on. Even if it's not hot, you should still bring water.

Definitely want to start this hike early before the crowds get there. I started at 7AM and there were only a few cars in the parking lot. On my way down, I passed by several groups of hikers. When I arrived at the parking lot at 10AM, it was completely full.

Pretty easy trip. Nothing really challenging, and some nice sights along the way. It's if you want to get some dirt on the tires but don't have all day.

fairly short, simple trail with nice views of rolling hills to the east and boise to the west
