I took this hike with the 2yo on my back, 4 kids and two dogs in tow. I would rate the trail as moderate with children and summer heat. It got a little too warm and the kids started to burn out so we turned back before hitting the mine. There were lots of Mormon crickets along the way. Trail is a bit overgrown in the middle at some parts and has medium sized hills.
We will be heading back earlier in the day next time. Despite not reaching the end we still had a great time.

Great hike with great views. A little tough if your out of shape. Loose sand and gravel in spots. Take a water for the walk up and a Gatorade for the walk down.

I love this trail in the spring and fall! The views from the junction out across the valley are beautiful. The Shingle Creek drainage is quite a bit steeper than Dry Creek, and mountain bikes have worn the trail into a V, so it's a fairly technical downhill run.

My roommate and I just did this today. went up Dry Gulch and down Shingle. Awesome terrain and scenery change on the way up. Goes from plains desert to lush greenery to high altitude pine forest. Go early morning this time of year! Mormon Crickets we're in full force on the way back around 11:00am. The whole hike took a little over 4 hours.

good hike, the trail is narrow so watch for bikers before going around corners.

gorgeous hike!

This was a beautiful loop, even in the middle of the summer. The creeks were dried up but still plenty to see. He cautious of the multitudes of bikes on the trail. But those we encountered were very friendly. There are a bunch of forks in the trail that give a lot of options, Bob's Trail was our favorite part of the loop, I recommend leaving this trail for the end of the hike for the surprise of beauty!

Flat path, very pedestrianized, and uneventful.

Just wrapped up that hike. Definitely feels like alpine but there’s quite a bit of road construction going on. Needs better signage. Rustic ski resort in every sense of the word.

Great trail! Not at all intimidating for beginning bikers. Some areas can be confusing as this trail becomes part of the larger Boise green belt trail system but can be navigated using map plaques along the trail. This was my first trail as a new mountain biker and I really enjoyed it!

Steep run and a well kept trail. The view in fantastic.

Very nice work out. No shade and lots and lots of bugs. Stink bugs and those big crickets. It was eerie in some areas where the trail narrowed and you had to duck to avoid the over grown branches that blocked your path. You were surrounded by the sounds of all these bugs all around you. And you had to dodge the bugs that jumped out at you. This is why the low score. Not a fan of bugs but this was a bit much. Less dogie droppings. then some ;)

Busy trail with lots of dogs on leashes. It was steep so might be a workout. Beautiful view from the top made it worthwhile. Consider a stop at the old Idaho State Pen while there. It’s at the bottom of the trailhead and very interesting.

Awesome trail!!!

We started at 5am. I wouldn’t start any later in the summer because it’s exposed. It was a nice wide trail. Well marked. Wish the loop continued in the foothills and didn’t hit the street at the end but regardless it was a well marked, well maintained, and well traveled trail. Boise State has a bird research area at the top and we enjoyed learning about their program and releasing birds after they were banded. It was a great hike. Bring lots of water. Start early.

great trail for beginners.

Loved this trail! Lots of wildflowers along the way and well marked. Parts of the trail are in full sun, however, the majority of the trail was shaded with trees - perfect when hiking in the hot summer for 8 miles :)

Caution!! Not as “Easy” as they rate. Good trail for hiking bad trail for biking. Huge boulders.

OK hike. Lots of people, decent view from the top and facilities available at trailhead. Cigarette butts, on trail and at peak, and graffiti detract from the experience. If you're more of a solitude seeker there are other trails nearby that may suit your tastes better but this is worth the trip if you have never done it.

This hike was pretty at the start but the trailhead was not well marked and the beginning was straight up in sand and rocks no switchbacks. After the first 2 miles the trail became overgrown and hard to follow. So many false peaks and I was a bit worried there toward the end I would run out of water (had four liters). The last 3/4 mile I couldn’t even find where the trail was...I was tired of bushwhacking struggling to find the trail and turned around. With this being one of the Grand Slam Peaks it should be marked better and maintained a little more. While the views of sunrise were gorgeous over the lake at the beginning I don’t think I would want to do this one again.

Very pleasant hike. Several spots had amazing views. Good variety in the available views.

A couple of friends and I hiked this trail in late June and it was a nice workout. Some portions were steep enough to really make you work and others, not. You’ll have a wide range of views from a river in the distance, to mountains, to evergreen trees at the peak. We had a close encounter with an elk in a beautiful meadow area; in the distance you could see another female elk with 2 calves. There’s a trailhead with parking available. It’s not a hard trail and just what the doctor ordered to “get away from it all”.

The views are amazing. The hike is rated correctly and very low foot traffic. There are a lot of mountain bikers on the trail. Watch your footing, there are a lot of roots.

This trail is great! definitely going to do this at least once a week
