This is one of my favorite trails! We ride our bikes on this trail all the time and it's wonderful! It's a very smooth ride and people we pass are always super friendly.

nice and easy trail for an afternoon hike

Definitely my favorite trail in the McCall area. The hike was tough but the views were totally worth it. Mid October was the perfect time to go as we got to experience all of the fall colors and got to see snow at the lake.

An easy going hike for some exercise

I didn't like it. It is way too rocky and poorly marked. Plus, there was a billion people on the trail. But, Coeurdalene is beautiful and this is very close to the lodge.

awesome..has everything for good hike

Beautiful fall hike! The trail is a bit overgrown and there is a downed tree. Just so you’re aware the trail is deceptively easy going down to the lake. The way back is 95% uphill. GPS put this hike at just over 5.5 miles. The lake was beautiful and there wasn’t a soul in sight.

Loved this hike near the CDA resort and lake. first half of the hike was easy, but second half of hike a lot harder. Main Trail signs hard to see as you can get lost quickly if you're not paying attention.

Beautiful Scenic Easy Hike and well worth it! If you're just needing a few miles to be active, get out of the house with the fam, or just get your steps in! Several trails to choose from...there a few challenging ones if you're wanting to be more adventurous!. There are some easy accesses to small beach areas. Can't say enough about Tubbs..Autumn/Fall is a wonderful time to go!

Easy to find trail with beautiful views. BEWARE of the two large dogs that live directly at the beginning of the trail. One of them charged down the hill and onto the path at us. Glad we had our bear spray in our packs!

So beautiful!!! End of September the leaves are all changing color and it was breath taking. Definitely a steep trek and there is loose dirt and gravel so be careful going down. We had the whole trail and lake all to ourselves. There’s a beach area at the lake to relax. The drive up to the trail head is a dirt road but not difficult to drive at all. Enough parking for about 6 cars. Would definitely recommend!

I’m sure this hike deserves a higher rating, but as an out-of-stater, I’m standing at a firm 3-Stars. The trailhead itself isn’t hard to find, but easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Just a random, small parking lot off the side of the road. When we started our hike/walk, we were greeted by a neighbor horsedog that was definitely not messing around with people stepping off the path. Just don’t make eye contact. The trail stops about halfway to a spot to overlook the canyon, which is beautiful. Walk a little further and you’ll see a sign that says “unimproved trail”. Just to that immediate right, the trail starts to descend down the lava rocks. From there, you’ll have to dodge the creeping poison oak that comes from all angles. We didn’t make it to the platform near the water, but only because of all the poison oak. It seemed to overtake the trail towards the end of it.

This was a beautiful and unexpected hike! You could even wade through the water a bit to get over to a cool picnic/camping area. Still quite a few bees but a nice and challenging hike!

Fun hike. Places for Tucker (our dog) to play in the water.

A sublime autumn hike! Had the trail to ourselves and relished the stunning views. Previous reviewers referenced downed trees across the trail but we encountered none (evidence of recently cut trees; thx USFS). An excellent workout. Still a few wasps and of course I was stung but that didn't detract from the trail's beauty. My only complaint is the abundance of trash on the beach. Utterly disappointing that people would leave this otherwise pristine place with their mess.

lots of fun. Beautiful view.

Very rewarding to get to the part where you can swim at the end. Careful though, the narrow path is full of poisonous oaks so long clothes advised.

Took my Sister's family out here because they have never been. They absolutely loved it, was way worth the long walk getting to it. my six year old niece loved it, especially when we saw a bat while swimming in the lake at the end of the gorgeous hike.

I love this run! it’s a loop so, you can come from the front or the back. if you run, you should be done within 30min or so. You will be ok with regular running shoes. i wouldn’t recommend to go there right after a rain or next day. It can be very muddy or you can slip on rocks.

on Box Lake Trail

We set up base camp here for 3 nights and did day hikes in both directions on Crestline Trail - this is really a lovely lake with amazing white sand beach. It's really only about 2.5 miles to the south end of the lake where the beach is. There was a bit of uphill but I would rate this moderate to hard. The distance is pretty short and there are many places where the trail levels out after a good climb, so it's not too bad. The trail is in good shape to box lake - nothing scary or sketchy but a good effort. After Box Lake it gets a bit sketchy - lots of downed trees (look for the downed trees that have obviously been cut to mark the trail) - but nothing scary. Lots of nearby lakes within 7-10 miles for your day hikes - including a lovely view of McCall and Payette lake.

Whew! Tough hike in but the scenery more than makes up for it. The trail is very steep at the beginning and eventually plateaus in some areas. After laying eyes on the lake you are tasked with traversing a steep and rocky trail to the lake's shore. The challenge of this hike is well worth it!
