Amazing trip from Big lookout lake to the Trinity Mountain lookout tower. Not for the fair of heart though. You are pretty much going up ridge lines most the way. Frequent stops make for a Manageable trip. The beginning has plenty of tree coverage but soon dwindles. The view is well worth it!! Overlooks the valley and all the rainbow lakes! Will definitely do again!

The trail deserves 2 stars only because 1 star = bushwhacking. The views and lack of traffic deserves 5 stars. We left about 5 PM on day one, planning to hike the loop in 4 days. We were hiking counterclockwise (up the Queens River Drainage) because an old guidebook from the 70’s said it was the best way to go - less elevation gain over the first several miles. A fire in 2013 has left multiple deadfall trees per mile. An avalanche last year (?) also left a pretty large debris field about mile 7.5. All of these can be overcome with a good trail eye and some leg work. Not having a good trail eye, we missed a river crossing due to several downed trees and bouldered for about 1/4 mile before retreating down & across the river before locating the trail. Day 2 we encountered a 2-3 year old brown bear. Must have been a female ‘cause when I yelled, “Hey baby, how are you doing?” She took of running. Camped about 10 miles in at another river crossing. Only saw a couple people, one of whom said there was even more deadfall on the other side of the loop. Day 3 we did a short side hike then returned down the way we came arriving at the trailhead about noon on day 4. We are going to come in on the clockwise side (Little Queens) in a couple weeks to see if there are as many trees down on this side. Overall, beautiful, quiet, and a wonderfully hard hike.

The first uphill death march of an hour will make you want to vomit blood and die. Then it turns into paradise. We hiked to Fiddle Lake and found a great spot to camp. The mosquito population was so happy to see us that they all came out to greet us. They stayed with us pretty much the whole time. We hiked to Little Lookout Lake to fish in the evening which was much easier without our gear on so we made it there in about half an hour. I can’t wait to go back and see more.

Would have had a much better time if we would have known the actual distance to the first lake. Wondering why no one has commented on this? It was about 4.9 so 5 miles into the first lake! About 3.5 miles in when you hit the sawtooth wilderness signs. Last mile is definitely the climb. Well worth the views but definitely plan on a longer hike! Start early because it’s not fully shaded.

Solo hike with Ava. We climbed up to the high lake and the view can’t be beat!

We walked along this path today and it is a lovely area. We didn’t see any spot that looked like a hot spring spot, but I think the river is too high right now. So we continued on our stroll for another 1/2 mile along the beautiful meadow. We will try it again in a couple months!

The pool is actually situated inside the Baumgartner campgrounds. The campgrounds are currently closed for improvements but you can still access the area by foot. It's just a short walk down a scenic road, not really a hike imo. We saw several people leaving the pool area on our walk up and hoped to have a quiet soak. Alas, there were still 6 adults and a few children in the pool when we arrived. So we quietly waited1/2 hr for them to finish. Soon as we finally hopped in another group showed up and also hopped in...

Did this as a day hike, and while the lake is small, it is beautiful and blue. Pretty easy hike until the last .75 miles before you reach the lake when all of the elevation gain hits. There's only a couple downed trees on the trail that are easy to navigate around/over.

Loved the hike. If your out of shape it will take you about 90 minutes. We make the first lake in 50. Nice views as well!

A constant uphill climb that ends at a small lake, which my husband and I thought resembled more of a pond. Upon suggestion of the only other two hikers we encountered on the trail, we ventured up further to Twin Lakes, which again were small lakes more like ponds. We commented as we hiked up Cabin Creek Trail the it seemed like an obstacle course and not well maintained. Lots of fallen trees that we either had to hike around or jump across. On the plus side, the wild flowers in the meadows were beautiful and the trail did follow a small stream that had little waterfalls. I would not do this hike again nor recommend it as there are many other hikes in the area that would be much more worth the time & views. Granted we may have been spoiled as the day prior we hiked Iron Creek Trail to Sawtooth Lake which was absolutely breathtaking!

It was busier than I expected but it is also directly off the road. You can make your own pools that mix hot spring water and river water. The river is very scenic especially if you build your pool further away from the bridge.

I did not complete this trail due to my partner and I setting a tight timeframe. We traversed about an hour into the hike before turning back. The toughest part of what we did complete of this trail seemed to be the first mile having little real shade, some rocky footing, and some scramble over. The trail did demand elevation gain but it evened out after a more strenuous but not difficult first half mile. The trail follows a nice creek but shade is sporadic midday. The wildflowers are prolific! We started out in early afternoon in July and came back to the trailhead as a mild thunderstorm was brewing east of us. I would/will try this one again! Also, Lake Alturas nearby is a great place to cool off!!

Great hike with good trails and markers. There's about 9 lakes in the area so it's fun to go see them all!

There was no trail to hike that led to the hot springs. The hot springs is right off the road on the other side of the bridge that crosses the river in Pine.

Amazing hidden lakes just above, although the various trail heads were grown over. Beautiful! Since the hike was easy, and pretty short, we decided to go further and hike Shell Rock Peak as well.

This is a wonderful place to hang out and relax. There are lots of campgrounds around. It's especially relaxing at night. Usually pretty calm, but can get very busy. Also it's fun to make up your own pools to get the temperature you really like.

Baumgartner is a nice hot spring that requires a short hike to access. It's developed (cement pool), but the times I've gone there was nobody else there, and the area was well kept and clean.

This is one of my favorite hot springs. Beyond the beauty of the area, the hot springs are relatively natural still, with the water from the S. fork of the Boise River flowing through and creating natural pools of differing warmth. You'll see tons of wildlife here too. I don't think I've ever been in this area and NOT seen an elk.

We camped at Elks campground for 2 days. Nice serene place . Unfortunately a high fire warning zone.. There are couple of hot springs nearby. Most of the trails were closed it..
