Great short trail to a beautiful view overlooking the coast. Don’t miss this hike. Bright sun for much of the trail,so be prepared. If it has rained, can be pretty muddy.

Views are fantastic!! Go beyond white cross the the fence (yes, it’s there, keep going) you won’t regret it. The hike up is a killer (hubby and I are pretty good hikers...hubby called it “stair master 4,000”) and way down goes fast (though we had no rain to deal with or it would have been dangerously slippery). If you want a good workout, this does the trick for sure. We parked just past the almost hidden entrance, up on the grassy part of the right hand side of the road and had no issues.

Challenging but views are worth it.

amazing views! a bit muddy/slippery, but worth every step!

Bring shoes that grip. Muddy trail!

Beautiful views. Well worth the hike. Took me 2.5 hours round trip. In OK shape. I’d rate this as moderate.

Breathtaking views, great workout could be slippery in spots be careful if raining! With the time!

Super good and beautiful hike! Definitely not an easy hike, more moderate to hard with lots of inclines and crossing over streams. Way worth it though!

Awesome trail but not for inexperienced. Pretty steep climb up.

Great one, do in the nmorning to avoid clouds. Did it for sunrise - turns out the gate is locked until 7 AM, so you'll have to add 0.7 miles x 2. Worth it. Easy to follow and walk, takes about 2 hours (with the extra 1.4 miles)

I was so disappointed with this hike which I hate because I love everything Hawaii. I have to admit being from the desert this was my first hike in a tropical environment so it took some getting used to. Even with good hiking shoes I fell 3 times and slid almost the whole way back. The trails were so muddy that my shoes were just caked and I had no traction. The bamboo forest was really my favorite part even though it’s not very big. We got to the 1.1 mile mark and couldn’t find a trail and instead of trekking through the stream we had to turn around. I was really hoping to get a chance to see those waterfalls but the App just showed that we were heading the wrong direction.

We did this trail a year ago, we were looking for a quick hike to do before getting on the plane to go home. the reviews that warn about proper shoes weren't posted yet. it's no joke, the slippery rocks kind of got old after a while, and after slipping a few times I just wanted to turn around. that said, it's very pretty... it's Hawaii!

Great views. Start early.

Took my group about a hour to get up. Trail is rated moderate but I would give it somewhere between moderate and difficult if doing it in hot conditions. Quite a bit of elevation gain, slippery in areas, and we sweated the whole way up. Nice views on the way though!

We went two days ago, it’s a beautiful hike with so many different views but when we went it was SO muddy, definitely don’t wear your nicest shoes or clothes, most people coming down had fallen at least once! Have done this hike a few years ago though and it was dried up, we had no problems so I guess it just depends on the weather!

We took our 5 and 8 year old up this. It was definitely the most challenging hike we've done with them. Straight up a decent climb right away. It was a hot, clear day and the trail gets baking hot once you leave the first bit of forested area (about the first 1-1.5km or so) - bring lots of water. If bringing kids, also pack tons of snacks because you'll be bribing them a lot to keep going (or piggy backing, like me - which makes for an extra good workout). Despite the dry day, it was still very muddy, which can be fun or disastrous for the kiddos. We got lucky with the clouds and didn't get rained on, but it was a slippery slog.

All in all, a great way to add some variety to a week of beach hopping and over eating :)

A great hike to get out and see the scenery in Maui and get a good workout in!! Such awesome views! trail was very very muddy, make sure you wear good shoes (not sandals!) and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. The road up is narrow, and the parking lot fills quickly. We were there at 7am and were the first there, took us 3.5 hours to complete the hike and the parking lot was packed when we left. There is overflow parking as well though! If you have hiking poles, they’d be super helpful. Would definitely recommend!!

If you come to Maui and are looking for a fun and athletic activity — do this hike! My girlfriends and I had such a fun time taking in all of the different views. Come ready for a workout and wear good shoes.

As someone who just moved to the island and doesn’t hike much, I thought this was difficult. But man it was worth it!! The views from any part of it are spectacular and there are plenty of places to pull off the trail for a quick break! Even a nice table up top to eat lunch! We reached the summit around 11:30 and the clouds had just started to roll in, and then it became very overcast. Definitely recommend heading up earlier than later if you want the best views!

We hiked this on Thanksgiving Day in 2017 and absolutely loved the views. Having read previous reviews, we were sure to time it so that we reached the summit by 10:45 (the best way to ensure that cloud cover doesn't impede the views). And sure enough, once we reached the top, it wasn't more than 10-15 minutes before the cloud cover started rolling in and completely blocking the views.

It rained on us while we were going up for a little bit. That caused the path to be EXTREMELY muddy. That meant that we basically had to RUN down on our return in order to avoid falling. Overall, a very fun hike with some great views of city/ocean/valley/mountain. We will definitely do this again.

Amazing hike! Not that hard by any means. Definitely muddy. Was pretty foggy at the top. Amazing views!

Beautiful run and views. First half was a hike with more runnable parts the second half. Downhill was a great technical test. Got up in 40 min and down in 25 min. Recommend starting before sunrise to avoid being in sun. I started at 6:30am

incredible views along entire hike. good elevation gain, a little slippery at spots, wear good hiking shoes with tread. would not recommend to do hike in or after big rain

Beautiful view. Love this trail.

Great workout and hike! Bring water

Trail entrance is a bit overgrown but the rest of the trail is pretty easy to navigate. Where the road curves left (right after the road splits to alu rd), Look out for a small opening in the vegetation.
It is pretty steep so you get a good workout on the way up and have to be careful on the way down. If you go a little past the cross, you’ll get a good view of the isthmus. Took us about 90 min to get to the cross and back going at a fairly leisurely pace.

My favorite trail in Maui. Reasonably challenging with outstanding views of East Maui. Hiking shoes /boots recommended, definitely not a flip flop hike.

a nice hike, lots of elevation and a killer view. if the trail gets wet it is pretty slippery on the way down so essential footware is key

I hiked this starting at 5:30 to be at the top for sunrise. Very manageable trail by moonlight. An hour to the end of the trail. Watched the sun pop over Haleakala crater just after 7am.
