Very fun family friendly trail! There were so many great views from each of the pill boxes. The trail isn't too hard, it's a little steep at first but it evens itself out and the views are worth it. It was nice to see the bunkers the soldiers worked in. There was also old parts of buildings that lay up there. All in all very great views of sunset beach and a nice short workout!

Really great trail if you want to hike through jungle a few hours. Some fallen trees made the path more of a challenge but nothing major. The road that the trail joins to is having work done to it. There was a ‘no pedestrian access sign’ but the workmen let us through. They are stabilising the road I think. Looks like they are going to try and make the road operational again.

Don’t expect too many amazing views. You get some good view points to see the rainforest but that’s about it. This trail is more to immerse yourself into the heart of the forest.

The forest is really amazing to walk through, straight out of Princess Bride. We unfortunately hiked right up into a rain cloud and trail down was incredibly muddy and slippery. The views when we had them were really cool but the forest was the best part.

A fun hike with a great view! It didn’t take us too long and fortunately it hadn’t rained so it wasn’t as slippery and muddy as some have described. The first part is a lot of uphill and the ropes really help getting up the rocks and slick parts.

Weather was perfect for this hike, ground was nice and dry so no muddy areas. Ropes helped on the rocks going up and down, but over all a nice climb. Views were spectacular! Saw lots of small groups, no dogs though. Highly recommend!

Steep trail, for about 1/4 mile but not slippery great views at the top. Bunker to explore, and Picnic table to rest and take photos at before you reach the top.

Nice views and good calf workout!! Would be a great sunset hike.

great hike! starts off the first half the way with a steep incline but has ropes to help through half of it. wouldn't reccomend going after a rain as it can get very muddy. lots of tree roots to trip over so watch your footing.

first pillbox is legal but second one you walk through private property so be watchful and kind or dont go!

Fun hike when at the North Shore. Nice views and very easy to do when it is dry.

Not too challenging. Views weren’t as good as I hoped but it was a little cloudy. Pillboxes are interesting.

nice hike in beginning has a nice incline for about 15 min then mellows out

The hike was great. Cover with tress for lot of shade. Muddy but had good steps. Saw a lot of dogs and couples. The first pillbox is right in front of you. The other is off to the right down the mountain side past the do not enter sign. There are a bunch of trails trust me. 2 miles turned into 4 looking for the other pillbox.

Short trail with nice view. A little climb on the way up so you get your workout in. Good for trail running on the trail too.

We’ve done this one twice and we have enjoyed it. The first part is very steep. We took a large dog and a small dog and they both did well. There were only a couple spots we had to help the little one.

Good fairly easy hike. The first .5 mile is pretty steep and if raining would be very muddy. You see the pillbox before you do the loop. The loop is not well marked and has many other trails that cross over.

Although this hike is quite short and easy, it's incredibly beautiful. Whether you want to explore more of the pine forest or sit atop one of the pillboxes and watch the ocean, you can spend a fair amount of time here. I LOVE the creativity of the graffiti in the pillboxes.

I recommend going when it's been dry, as the rain will just make this hike muddy and unpleasant. :)

Cool view. Slippery mud.

Pleasantly serene with awesome views

Good little hike. Really easy to miss one turn though. When you get to the intersection of wide, well beaten paths, don't take any of them. The loop continues if you make a hairpin turn onto the small trail leading down the ravine.

It was a nice short hike, I don't think I'd rate it "moderate" compared to other "easy" hikes we have done on oahu, I'd say it was easy. It hadn't been to rainy lately so the mud was available. Beautiful trees, flowers, birds, views, & pigglets!

Good little hike not to bad it gets muddy in the beginning if it rained but I would just plan to do it if your going to go to the beach right afterwards!

Just finished this hike and had a blast!

As others have said it's basically divided into three parts:

Part 1: The North Fork, which is the main trail, is mostly muddy jungle. There were a few downed trees when we were there, one was a really large Eucalyptus (I think?) that definitely made it confusing where the trail was. I was very happy to have my GPS with me for that segment.

I wouldn't take kids on this part unless they're experienced hikers.

Part 2: the gravely connective section of the trail is more like a decommissioned road and easy to traverse. If you take it North for a period of time you can snag some additional cool jungle views. Otherwise just take it South toward the road.

Part 3: The abandoned road. I thought this was freaking cool. It does totally feel like you're in a post-apocalyptic world and nature is taking back the mountain! You get some really awesome views of the wind turbines rising about the jungle and ocean. If you have kids that aren't going to be able to handle the entirety of the hike you could just do the road (be sure to keep them away from the edges that have fallen out!)

My Gaia track said that the whole hike, including our extra jaunt north and the road leading to it, was 7.83 miles and took us 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Decent little hike with a mediocre view of North Shore. The graffiti art up at the pillbox was my favorite part which somewhat speaks to the lack of difficulty or reward on this one. Good for the family or bringing the dogs.

Nice short hike that even my teenagers enjoyed. Which is saying a lot.

Short hike. Good view. Wild pigs. Not too much mud. Steep enough to get my heart beating.
