Not best views, nice stop much better trails farther down road to Hana

My family did this hike today. The 4x4 road is no joke, so park at the hunting check in station. it was beautiful in the trees with the mist. We set off around 0900 and were very comfortable. We saw 4 other people throughout the hike. A solid moderate hike with some elevation changes and slippery loose lava and leaves. The trail is maintaned very well. My kids are 8 & 4 and completed the hike with only minor complaints from younger one. We stopped at the Kula farmers market on the way back for some treats. A good break from the beach.

Really great trail if you want to hike through jungle a few hours. Some fallen trees made the path more of a challenge but nothing major. The road that the trail joins to is having work done to it. There was a ‘no pedestrian access sign’ but the workmen let us through. They are stabilising the road I think. Looks like they are going to try and make the road operational again.

Don’t expect too many amazing views. You get some good view points to see the rainforest but that’s about it. This trail is more to immerse yourself into the heart of the forest.

Did this with a large crew of people, organized parking cars ahead of time in Waimanalo. I was a little wary of the trail b/c I have a moderate fear of heights but ain't no thang - there are no steep drops if you stick to the main trail. It's pretty well defined the whole way, fun to mountain goat your way up to the top. Make sure you bring sunscreen bc you're exposed pretty much the whole time to the hot hot bright sun. A guy did this trail in a kilt, no shirt and... he was lobster red when we saw him at the end. Yikes. Those of us who slathered ourselves with sunscreen and wore hats were fine. Lots of ups/down, I would rate this trail as on the harder end of moderate but not advanced. Bring plenty water, wear long pants so you don't get scraped on the thorny plants that thrive in the desert-like terrain and climate.

Fun, moderate trail to the ridge. The final stretch has rope work and is fairly steep but only for a short little while. We started with a group of about 14 but then only 5 of us made it to the very end. Even if you don't hike the full length, the views are worth the hike and you can turn around at any point since it's an in/out trail. This trail connects to Ka'au - would love to come back one day to go up this trail then come down Ka'au side. Final note: keep an eye on the weather in the days before doing this hike, there are parts that would essentially turn into mudslides after heavy rains.

Nice trail but really muddy . . Beautiful view of h3. . Took us about 2 hours going at a casual speed . . Definitely better with hiking shoes . . Not a hard trail but narrow paths might make it difficult for young kids . .

Walked this trail at 6:30 a.m. with a large group of folks with varying ages all the way to Black Rock and back to the Ka’anapali Beach Club. Running or walking shoes are recommended. Mostly exposed to the sun but for a few stretches of shade from trees, so definitely wear a hat and other protective wear if you’re sensitive to the sun. Enjoy views of the resorts along the trail, ocean, beach, and take in all that fresh island air.

Beautiful views, great for trail running. Gets really hot, I ran early in the morning (before 8am) and it was already hot

This trail is paved and a nice gradual climb. I would definitely recommend it for sunrise (just like every other hike on this island). Great views at the end of the lighthouse and of the ocean, looking east.
I have more details on my entire Oahu itinerary on my travel blog [traveltrachs.com].

Not sure what the excitement is about this trail. The water was muddy and I've seen better waterfalls and found this disappointing--along with the other 6 of us who were very hopeful. Definitely take the bug repellant and you can skip the swimming/rope into the water--too fast of water, not to mention it's not anywhere near clear, thus not safe to jump in since you wouldn't see what you are landing on. Take an extra pair of shoes for the return drive as you will get muddy.

This was a great snorkeling stop, but the hike proved to be challenging with the loose rock and uneven terrain. Bring lots of water!

My wife and I enjoyed this hike. Our shoes got a bit muddy. I tried hard to keep them clean and dry. One slipped into the creek and got wet. It was our first hike in Hawaii and I felt like i really got a feel for the tropical terrain. The falls were beautiful.

It really is hard trail even though it doesnt seem like it in the beginning, its harder the way back because you go more up. But Its totally worth it, the view at the end is breathtaking!
As amateurs we had shorts and short sleeves on but we survived and it wasnt bad though if you can wear long pants at least do it

I went pre- closure last year and it was a struggle if you didn't have the right footwear! Very slippery and steep at the beginning and end. Saw lots of people fall including myself! Loads of rubble! The top view from the pillboxes were worth it!

Not an ounce of shade on this trail but worth it for a great view of the ocean and coast! Easy and paved!

This is a loop. it was beautiful but very muddy. Last quarter of hike was on Tantalus.

Went to do this one but the gps takes me to the Kolowalu trail instead. How do I get to this one?

This hike is very long. I wouldn’t recommend for those who don’t like heights or narrow areas. The walk space is so small to where you have to hike in a single file line. It has an awesome view of the H-3. It also feels as if you’re on a roller coaster cause you climb up, then down, then up again, then down. I wouldn’t recommend for kids or animals on this hike because of how narrow it is. But great for advanced hikers.

It is a very easy, kid/dog friendly hike. Surrounded by lots of trees. A hike I would recommend for family day.

I would describe this as a muddy obstacle course.
Nice little waterfall and swimming hole at the end and pretty creek that runs along side part of the trail which you must cross a few times. Not really hard in terms of steepness but it is very muddy and slippery with some rocky and uneven ground to cross. We did find out as we were leaving that the road you enter on is an easier 3 mile hike up through the forest to a different area but is not as challenging.

A great trail! Bring the family and pets on this one! Be respectful of this trail there is memorial for soldiers who died in this forest. The views of the H3 and pearl harbor from the top are well worth the trek. Be careful if it has recently rained , the trail can be quite muddy! Bring lots of water. Hiking shoes highly recommended.

I liked this trail. For trail running it was good and not muddy or covered in roots. There are views of Honolulu every mile or so.

went to do this trail the first time and had trouble finding it , the second time I tried to find it I couldn't believe I had missed it lol .

followed the other comments directions, keeping left along the trail, and found it with ease.

beautiful place and glad to have experienced it, was a little hesitant at first due to it being a sacred place but we were respectful.

went to try and look for the waterfall but my friend started hearing noises and we saw a seat pad like thing nailed to a tree and we got creeped out and made our way briskly to the exit.

the hike isn't hard but the rating hard for me comes from the arch itself.

I would I say I'm a pretty good hiker and have hiked way dangerous ones than this one but don't under estimate the arch. If you go up the arch go back down the same way you came up and then use the trail on the right to go under the arch(there is one on the left I heard about but didn't see it ) I saw that there was a little edge area on the right near the top that could access the trail under the arch DONT go this way, I tried to jump from here needless to say lost my footing and got scratched up quite a bit from the fall. It was pretty sketchy because of the incline and the loose rocks on the trail below. Please head my advice and use the trail to the right .

otherwise great little hike and experience

Beautiful views!! Paved road the entire way, it’s exposed so it will be hot to walk on during the middle of the day.

Its a pretty walk along parts of the beach

Not many people there and it’s a beautiful hike to a beautiful coastline and beach! Be prepared for it to rain on and off and wear good shoes!

Did this trail after the Moana waterfall. Didn't complete the loop, but hiked it just before it branch's off and had to turn around due to time. I would love to go back and complete it. It was raining heavily during the whole hike, so the use of bamboo sticks helped a lot on the way back, four of us left those bamboo sticks at the trail entrance for others to use.

A nice and easy walk with an amazing view!

What an amazing beach! The hike is steep and muddy but it is really short! It’s more an easy-moderate hike!
