HikingGreat!Over grown

We really enjoyed the Gahuti Trail. It took us six hours going at a moderate rate with two breaks. Lots of ups and downs, nothing too steep. My only complaint was all the poison ivy. It was really overgrown at the campground road and we had to traverse through mixed undergrowth for a ways in that area. There are plenty of great views and creeks, and a beautiful waterfall near the campground parking and Backcountry Campground #3.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a variety of environments and some wildlife on these trails! The swamp and marsh were very muddy after a hard rain yesterday, so good shoes are a must. The trails are well marked but without the paper map or app, the signage (arrows) can be conflating at points. Lots of small social trails - probably from the bikes - so stay vigilant. The trail was overgrown in areas and we had to walk around rather than into elaborate spider webs blocking the trail, so I assume it's not used daily. We saw 1 other hiker on a Tuesday morning. Also saw frogs, butterflies, deer, and turtles along the purple, blue and red trails. I will return and explore more!

It was great trail for MTB but we decided to hike. A lot of red ants along the trail so I highly recommend close toe shoes. Trial is covered so there was always shade. This hike is longer than 6.2 miles. From the parking lot, the red trail, and hiking to the falls you're looking at 8+ miles.

What an amazing area tucked back in there! BUT we were confused on the trails, we took the blue and then at the end had to jump onto the red to get back to our cars. The only thing this area needs is maps! Even here online I can’t find a map of the different colors?! What am I missing?

HikingGreat!

Hiked this trail with my mom yesterday. Was very well marked and was not too terribly challenging or technical besides one little creek crossing and one high step. My mom and I both tracked the hike on our phones and got a distance of approximately 7.5-8 miles including both the 5.5 mile loop and the distance to the parking lot and back. You can’t see as much of the stream as on the blue trail, but you can still see it from a couple areas. The trail is entirely shaded and it was a very pleasant hike overall.

Very well marked. The trail itself is about 5 miles, with a trail that’s approximately 1 mile leading from the parking lot to the trail head. It’s entirely shaded, and the scenery is beautiful! There are no creek crossings or highly technical parts of the trail beyond somewhat steep slopes. I would personally rate it easy as opposed to moderate. It was a great hike!

Very pretty area. However I too fell prey to getting mixed up on the trails and ended up on an 8 mile hike instead of 6.5 mile. Make sure to bring extra water in case you get mixed up too

Noooooooo. The trail is not all shaded and it is not easily marked. I'm not a fan. the trail stops in the middle of the woods trees are down so it is hard to follow and hard to keep up. This a different type of losf. Not a fan. The lake is beautiful .

As of August 2, the road to the trail still has a tree down. Hike to the trailhead is about a half mile or more.

If you‘re bored of Stone Mountain, hike Arabia for a similar, yet new, experience. It’s easier and less busy, but know it’s just as exposed to the sun. Other than the mountain itself, though, everything else is flat and shady. Keep the AllTrails map open if you hike the north side, or you will probably miss the trail. Honestly, you can make this a nice, short there-and-back hike by parking at the AWARE Wildlife Center gravel lot and starting from there (instead of the lot AllTrails takes you to).

Hiked this trail 8/1 and a tree was down across the road on the way to the trail head. It adds .7 miles to get to the trail head.
