Explore the most popular hiking trails near Atlanta with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Hidden gem in a humdrum city life.

Even if the trail is easy to moderate and not much of a challenge, you get to stop and enjoy many wonderful views throughout the trail.

Good for running!

Very informative history tour around the town where Martin Luther King was born and raised.

Absolutely beautiful trail

you can get lost and explore a bit more if you go off trail

really muddy and beach is littered with trash. I always give my dog a bath afterwards when I let him play in the smelly river of city runoff.

Hike and bike trail. Mainly in forest. Limited view of the river. Wide trails.

We loved this trail, but found it to be poorly marked where you go up the hill. We weren’t sure exactly the right way to go and doubled back the way we came.

Definitely worth the hike! The bamboo forest was the best reward at the end!

I rate it as a fast hiker expecting hilly trails. I usually go 2.5 mph on trails, I did this one at 3.5 mph so it is easy.
This one can be split into 2, the north trails and south trails.
The north is not really interesting, plus the vicinity of the 400 does make it noisy, so I will advise not taking it If you seek peace.
The south is more interesting, with spots for pictures and deers crossings (I saw 7 this Sunday).
Still it must be considered as an easy trait, not a moderate one.

Super fun getaway from the city! We’re still searching for the bamboo forest.

Great woodland trail in the middle of suburbia. Recommend that you check out the trail map posted at the kiosk.

3 for the hiking. nothing exciting. walking the trails is easy and maybe gets you 2 miles. nothing strenuous. the best part is the dog beach in the middle. has some natural barriers to keep the pups there.

You’d never know you were still in Atlanta! It’s breathtakingly beautiful and strenuous! Can really take in the nature around you!

My favorite trail!!!

So many different trail options and you feel like you’re out of the city.

Nice trail for running. Part concrete, part gravel, part dirt and beautiful scenery in the fall.

Beautiful quiet trails! A bit busy near the start along the river, but we started to the right going up the mountain and saw a cool overlook over the river with kayakers. Our pup loved it!

My husband and I loved hiking this trail. In total we did 5.8 miles but took a couple extra routes. You can make it as long or short as you like! To start, it is incredibly beautiful. I mean you have views of the river, water features, a bamboo forest, and some elevation which we really liked. I would say this is a moderate trail and can be tough at times for kids, but nothing they can’t handle. There’s lots of dogs off leash so if your dog is aggressive this is not the trail for you. I would highly suggest this trail to anyone that wants to be in the city but feel completely immersed in nature! Ps. The bamboo forest is by Trail marker E26.

The footbridge was washed out by the Paddle Shack which obstructed entry to the trail segment alongside the river. The hilltop trail was confusing at times. Nice park though.

There are a few trails that are not mapped. My dog and I always go during a weekday and usually there are not a whole lot of people that we run into, especially on these secret hidden trails. There is one trail that is on the very north side almost to the final mapped point where I put a few sticks to make the trail apparent. This trail leads to an old overgrown well and rusted steel cord crank that looks like it was used at one point to haul timber. Another trail that is not marked splits off on the northern trail that runs next to the creek. This trail leads to a rusted wheel barrow looking piece and will lead up the hill to a deer trail where my dog and I saw a 2-point buck. You can really spend all day there with how many mapped and un-mapped trails there are.

Very lovely! Great view of the river and some cool boulders to explore if you like that sort of thing.
