relaxing place to visit

The mountain bike trail is the best place to get elevation for runners in south florida. Also great flats for cooldown, into an alligator laden thick foliage lined path.

Great trail a little remote during the week, also watch out for alligators, one day I photographed 4 that we’re alongside or just off the trail. Saw 2 eagles one day.

Nice Florida hike in the swamp!

Flat, out and back trail and loop. Good place to get a little exercise. Abundant shade. Some places for birdwatching. Much of the trail is framed on either side with pretty high saw palmettos and bushes. Bring bug spray. I saw maybe a handful of people out there on a Monday morning. Not crowded at all.

Out of time, but still want to fit a little Florida Everglades into your visit? This is a great short stroll for introducing visitors — or your kids — to alligators, a Cypress swamp and various Florida birds. Lovely wooden boardwalk with scenic viewpoints, some with comfortable wooden rocking chairs, so you can stay and sit awhile, listening to birds and gators. Very pleasant experience. There are also canoes and kayaks to rent at the trailhead, but nobody was working there when I visited. Four stars, only because trail is so short.

Great for off road bicycles.

Technical and rooty, but a pretty trail.

Hiked this trail a few weeks ago with my wife and 1 year old. Half of the trail was submerged under water and it is a a bit difficult to cross in some areas, highest point was knee deep. Saw a lot of birds: woodpeckers, aninghas, coots, egrets, great blue herons, and falcons. Also saw two alligators and spotted hog footprints in the mud.

Love this place! Trail 6 is my personal favorite! Camping at the campground is accessible and clean. Also close to trails and main grade. It can get swampy off the main grade... just know your vehicles’ limits or you’ll be stuck like Chuck!

Great trail but repeated long stretches (20/30/40 ft) of flooded areas within the swamp, 6”+ deep. Found a big turtle in the middle of the trail, submerged, swimming, watch your step!
Dirt road portions around the periphery are fine.

It’s located close by to Greenacres Freedom Park, and you can park here to walk to the trail. There’s two ways of getting to the trail, which entrance is located on Pinehurst Drive. If you go the intended route, you’ll have to park and walk to the trail entrance located on the street via the sidewalk. The second way has you cutting Southwest through the soccer field of Freedom Park, and into a side entrance that’s located close to the street.

The actual trail itself is a mountain bike trail that also allows walking, but you’ll need to be aware of your surroundings because bikers here are frequent. Very pretty trail for both biking and walking. There are a good variety of roadblocks to overcome for bikers, like stumps, branches, rocks, & roots. Walkers can experience the same things, but there’s usually a more “mild” trail option to get over any obstacles.
The trail is pretty tight, two people can just about walk abreast but a lot of places will have you dropping down to single file.

Didn’t experience much wildlife on this trail other than a few birds, but there were no bugs so that was nice. It was also nice that even though there were plenty of areas with thick cover, the wind flow was pretty consistent so it wasn’t hot.

I was looking for a forested dirt trail to hike this afternoon, and found this. It was a good choice, the trail is easy to hike. Some roots to look out for, but the trail is nearly all flat. In the background, I heard squealing earthmoving machines across the canal, and the highway is on the other side, so you don’t quite get away from the city, but that is hard to do in South Florida.

It is a multipurpose path, so mountain bikers use it too. I had a few of them passed by me, very pleasant people. Don’t use headsets, otherwise you will not be able to hear them coming up behind you. I hiked on a weekday after Christmas, in the mid afternoon, and I only saw a few other hikers.

The trail is somewhat marked, not all clearly, but good enough. I show that the trail is more than 3 miles though, longer than what I expected.

Absolutely beautiful South Florida trail with loads of pretty scenery. Big open blue sky and neverending reflections on the water. Still a lot of mud and squelching. Water a foot high in a few places on the Apoxee. Saw hogs! :)

Not great for running. Can’t do this loop unless you want to go swimming. The road is underwater at mile 3. Basically just a Jeep trail.

Nice family park with pavilions, lakes, a nature center, and various activities such as biking, kayaking, and picnic areas - you name it. They also have a one mile looping mulched path that was easy on the feet. They also have a paved path along the perimeter of the park. Loved it.

Looked promising but we could not hike the trail due to severe flooding blocking the path. Will try it again soon.

Closest I've seen to the trails I used to run up north. Very serene with little traffic. The only issue I had was the signage (or lack of) on the trail. Very easy to get confused with where you are and how to find the way out. Even with gps help, I was still making wrong turns.

Did both the main lower trail as well as the upper trail. Good first walk after not doing any for a while.

Park at the Publix in the Shoppes at Ibis on the south side of Northlake Blvd. Then after walking across Northlake Blvd, make your way around a yellow metal gate. The trail is not labeled, but it is easy to find and follow. The north/south route shouldn't get your feet wet. As of this review, I have hiked this trail 3 times without including the loop. To include the loop, there will be water to walk thru. As far as the north/south straightaway, one may have to walk around some puddles and around some muddy patches, but that is it. It should be easy to see an Everglades Racer Snake, a Pileated Woodpecker, a Red Bellied Woodpecker, a Green Heron, and a small Alligator, if you are stealthy and attentive. On a late afternoon, I saw some Raccoons. I have captured Deer, Boar, and Opossum, on a trail camera here. Depending on the time of the day, one may have to get a mile in not to hear a revved up car or truck on Northlake Blvd, but then the occasional plane traffic takes over from the nearby North Palm Beach County Airport. I do not believe there is hunting in this area.

Beautiful trail with some waterside parts as well dry areas. Easy. Saw several hogs on the way

Nice trail, well maintained, couple mountain bikers out today. Took about an hour to hike. The reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 is because it was quite loud with the road next to most of the trail, car noice, construction from a water treatment center. Overall a nice little hike.

Great park for trail running. There is an outer loop that can be used for mountain biking or trail running that is about 5 miles which is very technical with lots of roots. In addition there is an inner loop that isn't technical at all and is partially paved. That loop is slightly less distance. There also is a converted landfill hill that is 2.5 miles of uphill and downhill sections cut into the side of the hill that's around 2.5 miles that you can run as loops. This is unpaved . This trail is shared by mountain bikers but is a blast to run on.

Love it

This trail was really nice. Of course it was hot and humid as hell (it's in South Florida during the summer), but the trail was really fun!
