#4 - Donald MacDonald Park Loop
Donald MacDonald ParkLength: 1.3 mi • Est. 31 m
It is difficult to find wooded trails in Brevard County. However, cross the county line south into Indian River County and you will find this park (https://www.ircgov.com/Departments/General_Services/Parks/Donald_MacDonald_Park.htm).
From Hwy 1 south, take a right (southwest) on Roseland Rd. Go 2.2 miles and the park entrance is on the right (the second "Capewell Ct." road sign). The entrance sign is large, white, and well lit. From the west, take I-95 to the Fellsmere/Sebastian Exit 156 (SR 512, Sebastian Blvd.). Go 3 miles east on 512 to left/north on Roseland Rd. The park is 3 miles, on the left. There are visitor parking spaces around the campsite loop and also at the entrance to the park. The trailhead is across from campsite 17 and 18. The wide and well-maintained trail is made of compact white sand and portions are covered by short St. Augustine grass. The trail runs north-south and is exactly between the South Prong of the Sebastian River and State Route 505 (Roseland Rd.). With Roseland Rd. to the east and the Sebastian River to the west, it would be difficult to get lost on this well-groomed trail. The trail is also immediately west of and across the street from the Sebastian Municipal Airport.
The trail and park feature a boardwalk creek crossing, as well as a nice boardwalk and dock out to the Sebastian River where you can view cavorting Manatee, soaring Crane, and swooping Osprey. Reserve overnight camping on-line at the Indian River County website (ircgov.com). Otherwise there are no park fees.
