The trail itself is a meandering one that’s poorly marked and often overlaps with the disc golf course. There’s a dock that extends out and overlooks a small lake with scenic views and there are plenty of shaded trees to string up a hammock and relax.

It’s not strenuous or even remotely difficult and has facilities so that’s a plus. The downside is the trash in the water and on the trail. If you can ignore the constant sound of airplanes overhead, you’ll enjoy this light outing.

Well maintained and scenic. Lots of shade initially. Pretty open after the first half mile. Be prepared for the Florida sun.

This trail is less than 10mins from my house. I take my dog all the time. I usually just ride my bike along the trail. I'm always seeing deer which is nice and good training for my dog. You cant access the mail trailhead and parking lot during school hours because in order to access it you have to drive on school property which is a little weird.

Pretty area. If you dont like birds then dont go here. Ducks and swans everywhere.

Couple areas the trail was completely cover by water. Had a massive dear cross in front of us. Dog friendly. Little to no coverage from sun

See my review for Fallen Log trail - it’s part of this same nature preserve trail system

Easy walk through central FL.

good trail for running with dogs

Short loop with decking out to lake view. Public restrooms and a place to park.

The loop part of the trail was too overgrown for my taste. Some parts were completely covered in tall grass. The part leading up to the loop was alright going underneath the power lines. Had to use the subdividion access point since the gate at the school was closed, even though it was the Saturday after thanksgiving.

Nice easy stroll with lots of great flora and fauna.

We enjoyed walking along the wooded river. We did walk to the loop but decided it was too much sun and too late (9:30am) to see many critters though,. we did see an otter scurry under the power lines on the way to the loop. Looking forward to going back. So many birds and we did seem to startle a deer on the other side of the river and caught glimpses of its white tail flitting through the woods. It looked large and healthy. We went the day after Thanksgiving when the school was closed and the gates were open. If gate is open you have paved parking at trailhead behind the school building. We are making plans to go back.

too much traffic noise

Clean, well maintained. Beautiful hiking along the river.

Locked out

A basic description of this trail should include the fact that the entrance to the trail is padlocked win the middle school is in session. There is a middle school at the head of the trail and when the middle school is in session the trail has a padlocked entrance and no one can get in. All trails has been nothing but a disappointment as an app because it always leaves off vital information like this.

Quiet easy trail.

always a great walk at lunch time

Great place to walk or jog. There is a few trails to choose from too.

As explained neighborhood is meh but so far I have just seen fishermen, kids going to school, old timers on a walk and people walking the dog. Lake is beautiful to me, I like to jog there at sunrise or later before the Hot hours

Excellent for a moderate hiking. Keep you away from the city noise.

Playground for children, swings, handicap accessible, restroom facilities, ample parking, walking trail, picnic tables, 2 soccer fields, frisbee golf course. The foliage along trails is unkept and several folks had littered. I wouldn’t venture from the pathway far due to wildlife. Concrete pathway from parking lot made this ideal for wheelchair accessibility. Plenty of benches along path for breaks. Wooden trail to lake was questionable..several boards were loose, cracked and bowed so we didn’t venture out entirely. Lake would be ideal for nature and birdwatching. Great place to play with children, have lunch, and watch planes land and depart Orlando National Airport.

Great location for walking running basketball and picnicking.

Easy short trail.

I came here on the last day I'd be free enough to enjoy Florida's natural beauty before moving to Georgia after a short ten month stay in Florida. Split Oak is absolutely wonderful. It offers a diverse collection of Florida ecosystems, and plenty of wildlife viewing. not five minutes after entering the preserve I encountered a healthy doe, and mature buck. shortly after I saw another doe. saw a redtailed hawk, Pileated, and red woodpecker, covey of quails, blue birds, swallows, osprey, and a diamond back rattlesnake. would definitely come back here if given the chance. ps chacos, and sugar sand don't mix

No bicycles allowed. Horses yes, bikes no. What?!!!

No dogs allowed.

Not actually dog friendly! Drove 45 minutes for nothing.
