Hiked to the beach March 27 18. It was a windy day so only mosquito issues were in the wooded parts. Fresh panther scat on the trail and had a run in with one rattle snake and another snake so keep your eyes open! last section to get to the beach was about 6 - 8 inch deep marshy water so wear your boots. Sticks shoved in the mud mark the way! Good fun trail made it out and back in about 5 hours and the beach is neat, loaded with shells!

This is a great hike. My 11 year old son and I did it...out one day, return back the next.

Note that the wooden NPS "Clubhouse Beach" sign marker, which used to be on the prairie behind the beach, was swept away (I presume) by Hurricane Irma. You can see a great deal of storm debris lodged up against the scrub treeline on the north side of the prairie.

I bought a bottle of Ben’s 99% and put it on before this hike. It was in March, so still the dry season, but I had a cloud of mosquitoes hovering about 6-8 inches from my face for much of the way. If you’re at Flamingo and need a long hike, this is it. But it’s not terribly inspiring. One amazing surprise: we saw a Florida panther cross the trail.

This trail is all about timing. Yes it's flat, yes it's straight. But it leads to the beautiful Florida Bay.
Now when it's comes to this trail. Everything must be perfect..
Step 1. Time of the year! If you want a comfortable walk you have to go either right after a cold front or during a cold front. DO NOT try this is the summer! Even if you're covered head to toe mosquitoes will kill you!
Step 2. Time the tides.. tide to low birds and other animals might be hard to see. Tide too high. You're gonna get a little wet.
Step 3. EARLY MORNING or before dawn
If all those things line up! You'll have a great hike/ birding trip.
Enjoy!

There are very few bugs today as it is in the 60s. The trail is a bit muddy but fun seeing all the animal tracks. We did some trail maintenance since hurricane Irma felled some trees. We stopped about halfway out to Clubhouse Beach because we didn’t feel like clearing more branches but will come back soon to backpack out and camp overnight. As for wildlife, we saw swarms of a dark blue bird with white breast (gonna say tree swallows), a tricolor heron in the distance chasing fish, dozens of great egrets squawking in a distant pond, buzzards overhead and we heard an osprey. Crabs, spiders and dragonflies too! It’s a great way to start the New Year!

p..s.This trail is near Flamingo, NOT Ochopee!

I hiked this trail to the very end, and LOVED it. We camped overnight as well. Easily one of the most unique trails on the continent.

Scenic and quiet through coastal prairie and hardwood hammock, ending at a peak of Florida Bay. Bring a bug jacket and head net because the mosquitos are pretty heavy.

Deep water and mud most of the trail, lots of mosquitos, you'll want a head net and sleeves. Bring plenty of water, the prairie is exposed to the hot sun.

Trail was easy and flat except the swarms of mosquitos, the rain, thick mud, wind, and the 150 meters of waist deep water and mud awaiting is just before Clubhouse Beach. We stayed the night and woke to a very cold, wind sweeping rainstorm. Challenging trail and we have no regrets. Beach was beautiful and so was the flora. This was a one time affair. No desire to do it again.

Tremendous views, great diversity and wonderful wildlife. Come in the winter...and still bring the bug spray.

One of the few real hiking trails that I attempted during my visit last Thanksgiving weekend. This would be a great trail in the dead of a cold south Florida winter or if you are 100% prepared for the onslaught. Despite my near heroic efforts, as well as being covered head to toe and doused with bug spray, I was not able to complete it. They really should rename it Mosquito Bite Trail. If you are looking for a challenge, this truly qualifies.

Small trail around Eco Pond. If you like bird watching this is a great little trail to take at the southern tip of Florida.

Nice short trail around a pond at the very southern end of the Everglades. This is a good spot to see wildlife. Just be prepared for the mosquitoes for most months out of the year.

Nice trail at the southern end of the Everglades with beautiful views of Florida Bay and the beginning of the Keys. Just be prepared for the mosquitoes for most months out of the year.

Pain, pain and mud. And heat, draining heat. Leave it for the snakes and gators.

Go in the cooler months and make sure you are prepared for the bugs mosquitos they are every where. Everglades is a different place and it is very beautiful. I think the best way to enjoy this park is to get out on the water.

This trail is actually more like 4 miles due to the fact that you have to walk the road 2 miles to get to the trailhead. The actual hike is nice and the lake is much larger and prettier than I originally expected.

We completed this trail in early march. The mosquitos were not bad, but we did have pants on and used bug spray. Nice flowers and butterflies along the way. A nice trail to observe the different vegetation around the area. Great view of the beginning of the keys at the end. I recommend.

This trail is listed as 1 of the top 100 trails in America and I drove here from a great distance. However, I was unprepared. I showed up in a pair of shorts and an Under Armor shirt and could barely tolerate the bites while I was spraying down and changing into my pants. I started the trail and turned back after only a 100 yards. You need to gear up for this trail. I will try again if I can get a head net. I have never experienced an attack by insects like that, incredible!

Lots of interesting trees and plants along the way. This trail is very flat and easy, but it can be muggy and buggy. We saw some pretty gnarly spiders and encountered a few swarms of flies and gnats. You can look out across the water at the southern tip of Florida and see a few Keys.

Everglades have the most phenomenal birds. Canoed through canals and saw crocs as well. Excellent place to go and appreciate this volume of wildlife
