did the whole loop today, saw a big beautiful mama bear with two tiny weenie cubs watched and followed them with caution for about ten minutes, also saw a mama deer with fawn and of course lots of gator, on would not let us pass, and yet another was exstreemly large, this guy could easily have eaton a cow, purtty scary fellow

went out an back with friends that were recovering from sergury, saw deer gators snake and lots of hawks, good time

A nice relaxing walk usually ... but if it has been rainy make sure to wear LOTS of insect repellent, as the mosquitoes here seem to be extra bad. Don’t see wildlife very often but I usually go here for exercise rather than wildlife viewing.

The trail is open again

Went in March and there weren’t any mosquitos. This trail is interesting. It’s an out and back with a loop in the middle. It crosses train tracks and has a couple of bridges. Mostly covered though a small portion is open. I would imagine this trail wouldn’t be good for trail running because majority of the trail ground has unearthed tree roots. Kid friendly. Brought my 3 and 4 year old and they did okay.

Great palms & not much people

A nice little gem of a trail... well maintained and clean. A little of everything to see along the way. Quiet and peaceful. Will be going again!

The trail is closed at the end of the boardwalk due to maintenance. Beautiful area.

Alligators, birds and some Bear scat, interesting walk!

Bird Rookery is a 12 mile round trip trail. Bikes and dogs are allowed. Sharing the trail with various snakes and Alligators are common. Lots of opportunities for wildlife sightings and photography. The trail is easiest in the winter when the water is lower. There are no fences or boardwalks (aside from a short section near the start) separating you from the wildlife. In the summer the trails are prone to flooding but are still open to visitors.

I remember lots of mosquitoes any time you got in the shade.
And collecting wild air plants.

It was ok. The trail was Not clearly marked. Still not sure if we biked the whole thing or if we missed a part if it. You have to go to the State park entrance and pay $5 for a parking tag then, the park ranger will tell you how to get there.
