This trail features quite a bit of elevation gain and loss, three waterfalls, overlooks, camping areas, elevated walkways, and stairs. The trail's name comes from the remnants of old homestead sites. Since the main income during this time was turpentine, there are remnants of old tree stumps that were hand-cut for turpentine along the path. The Black Creek Watershed parallels the trail the entire way and is also a great creek to kayak. All campsites are accessible by water.Show more

This hilly interpretive trail in the Jennings State Forest takes you through numerous plant communities and to informative stops that explain the importance of fire and water for Florida's forests. The forest is an important natural oasis in greater Jacksonville. NOTE: be aware that hunting is allowed in the forest, so please check ahead of time for hunt dates. Show more
