Though most of the park is covered by water, a short 1/4-mile jetty trail is available at Convoy Point, and the 7-mile long Spite Highway trail is available to campers and those with boat access to Elliott Key. Old Cutler Trail follows the historic Old Cutler Road through residential neighborhoods lining the original wilderness path and wagon route from the mid 1800s. Named a State Historic Highway in 1974, the route offers glimpses of some of south Florida’s incredible historic mansions as well as stops at Pinecrest Gardens, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and Matheson Hammock Park. Accessibility: This trail is paved with concrete and asphalt. It is estimated that the slope is gentle to flat (0-3% grade) throughout most of the route.
