As of January 2020, the Ranger Station explained that this is the only section of the full 6.4 mile loop that was open. This recording is for the 3-mile Flatwoods Trail (includes a section of the Florida Trail). To access, you must first stop at the Collier-Seminole Park Entrance/Ranger Station to register and receive the code for the gate that will allow access to the parking lot/ trailhead. The western (north-south) portion of this loop is a nice wide, mowed park service road. The eastern portion of this loop follows the official Florida Trail - this section is very narrow, and winds through many different landscapes. It is gorgeous and well worth the hike. Incredible numbers of birds, and we saw a doe and a buck in this gorgeous wilderness. Not much road noise, but you can hear airboats in the distance. A suggestion would be to take this trail in a counter-clockwise manner.Show more
