HikingMuddyWashed out

There is so much wrong with this trail. First, it’s definitely a horse trail more than a hiking trail. Horses have left divots 10 inches deep the entire width of the trail making the mud 100 times worse. There is no scenery on this trail- just a bunch of steepish hills that end in nothing. There’s no payout at the end, just turn around at a road and walk back. There’s a ton of horse manure and dog poop along with so much trash (apparently no one understands carry in/out). This isn’t really a hiking trail. Very disappointed in this trail. Oh- and there’s NO first state monument as the map shows so don’t expect that! And it’s definitely not “lightly trafficked”- we saw nine people within the first quarter mile and stopped counting after that. Will never do this one again.

Not the most picturesque trail but an easy and quiet one to get some long miles in. Well maintained pavement & boards.

Awesome trail to be on in the middle to late January when there’s no bugs hardly any people. I wouldn’t go in the summer time to save my life. I was reading the previous reviews and I couldn’t stop laughing from everybody complaining that when U go during the months of April through October every review said they would get torn up by mosquitoes. Chiggers,No See’ems  what did you expect.People. Do these trails during the winter months and they’re absolutely gorgeous

This trail was nice and scenic, good for our dog - although she did get incredibly muddy. Luckily, the lake is nearby to rinse off!

We took our dog and hiked around, and while it was beautiful- the insects and ticks were really bad in the summer. Be sure to check yourself after hiking! We did not have any ticks embed, but we found 7 on us and our dog.

Great birds and herps, but the bugs were truly awful.

Walking

There are some nice views of rivers and old buildings. This trail can be combined with some other adjacent trails to make a relatively long looping route.

Half decent. Bike ruts throughout the length of every trail. There’s not much to look at, and not much elevation gain. However... for Delaware it’s not bad. When it’s not so muddy I’ll consider running or biking it instead.

This was a very nice trail. Started out early in 23 degree temp. We passed a couple on horses, a biker, a runner and another hiker. Very quiet and open trail. It was easy with some hills but the views were nice. The paths were open and easy to follow. Parking was plenty when we got there but by the time we finished it was full. I will definitely do this trail again.

This is a great local hike. You can add smaller connecting trails to lengthen the hike.

Blustery cold day but a great trail run for sure. Friendly walkers and pups too. Views were great and peaceful

Very nice loop as well as many side trails. You can see many trees in multiple stages of life as well as some meadow type area in between the pines. This was an enjoyable winter hike. As a local to the area, I would recommend heavy bug spray in the summer months. I did not give full 5 stars due to the fact that nothing is marked. I had to rely on the gps to lead the way down the many winding trails.

We hike here often because it’s proximity. Trails are well marked. We always see other hikers. Currently the trail is flooded in some areas due to the crazy amount of rain. Definitely need waterproof boots but worth the trouble to be out in nature.

Backpacking

Trail was in good condition other than a few spots where it was a little muddy (to be expected with the amount of rain we have had here). Myself and my Lab did this hike to test out our backpacking load and we’re very satisfied with the trail. Though the weather was ~48-50 degrees and overcast with periods of light rain, there were still around 10 people we encountered on the trail.

The trail is very nice and a great place for long runs. major issue finding parking to start the trail (finally parked in parking lot behind blue rocks stadium but took 45 mins to find it) the part of the trail that is just before New Castle is very poorly marked.

We really enjoyed this trail. It is incredible to think of how there used to be an amusement park in that location. We loved going from sign to sign to read about the history and see the pictures. The hill down and up to the trail is very steep and uneven. The trail along the water is crushed gravel and easy to walk along. There are train tracks near the loop part of the trail. We will definitely come again.

I saw a fair amount of wildlife when I walked this trail. This trail can be combined with some other easy adjacent trails to make a fairly long looping route.
