Extended this loop out to the Fire Road....from the overlook spot followed the blue blazed trail to Fire Rd. View from rocks is beautiful. Overall this extended loop was great..passed several waterfalls and had nice views of Squantz pond.

Lots of cool old structures that are great for pictures but super confusing. Trail not marked well or clearly. Went in circles multiple times

Awesome view at the summit! Trial is nicely marked; going up the yellow trail definitely gives your calves a nice burn — going down has a lot of neat stopping point.

I went straight under the interstate and there was a white marker but seemed to be over grown, i went anyway apparently the trail head was a few yards away because i found the trail, it's a well traveled trail but could use a fresh coat of paint on the blazes.
this loop is listed as moderate, if you want more of a challenge then find the blue trail, it's not a loop and comes with a warning.
when i hiked it was foggy and drizzling, add that to some snow and wet leaves it was rather treacherous no matter what trail you hiked.

One of my favorite hikes !... this hike will not disappoint !! ... great look out points

This was my first hike ever a few years ago .. just the right amount of climbing and hiking involved . Looking out at the view when reaching the castle is well worth it !!

Nice hike ... not difficult at all .. perfect if you’re looking for a short hike

The summit was spectacular !! Awesome hike!!

this is the 3rd leg of metacomet, started on wintonbury rd ended up at W H reservoir #6. 8.7 miles, awesome hike ,Penn wood great elevation, great in line hiking,burned1800cals....great day,

a little more strenuous with snow, red trail up to peak awesome, blue trail on way back not so much,a lot of hidden rocks and mud, definitely would be better without snow, all in all recommended, on to the next one

No complaints here. The trail was certainly hard just as it states. The trail was very well marked and even with 2” of snow on the ground it was still very enjoyable. I would not however, recommend this trail for a long run in the winter. The snow covered many rocks and made larger rocks very slippery. I had to hike many spots for that reason but slowing down a bit made it manageable. Good views at the top of the peaks and quite a bit of elevation. I did an out and back starting south from the starting point I got from the AllTrails directions. I finished with just over 20 miles and my gps read 4200’ of elevation gain. Definitely a workout so be prepared. Awesome trail, I will definitely be going back again in the spring.

Happy running,
Ultra Ryan

Great hike with spectacular views of the mountains and waterfall. Also, well defined trail markers. Definitely would consider it a moderate hike.

This is a really cool trail. I think it wouldn’t be as enjoyable in the spring or summer as I imagine it can get quite overgrown; but for fall/winter hiking it’s perfect. Tons of variation, changes landscapes, different plant life, and we even saw a hawk.

Nice hike. Not always well marked and hard to see trail with all the leaves on the ground but used common sense and path of least resistance and trail was easy to follow. Tons of downed trees from the storm in the spring, kudos to maintenance for clearing a path and keeping the trail open

Beautiful scenery...
Trails were well marked and lots of fun.

Great hike..! Beautiful views..

The disc golf baskets are a plus

The falls are fabulous! I found the trails a little hard to follow with all the fallen leaves and not clearly marked; however, it was a beautiful day for a walk. Next time I do this walk, I think I’ll do it before the leaves fall. We went up to the top of the tower but was not impressed with the view.

Fun family hike. My so has been going on this trail since he was 5. It’s somewhat challenging but easy to push through.

Wonderful hike alongside the lake until you get to a ridge with a beautiful view the whole way. The castle on top is super cool and has an awesome panoramic view. Probably my favorite half day hike I've done in CT!

Short, easy but a lovely view especially during sunset.

The walk to the falls itself is nothing much to speak of, but the falls are amazing! Excellent spot for some photo-ops. Trails are well maintained and nice and wide. Good for a casual stroll, particularly with pups.

Great hike, the “caves” were more like GIANT boulders and really fun to explore around. It was pretty wet in a lot of places so I would recommend water resistant hiking boots. Our dog loved it too!

Always enjoy running the blue loop. It’s not easy but a very cool run with ups and downs and river crossings.

Beautiful hike! The view is super nice on top (and can be a bit crowded). I would recommend to take Paradise lane trail to get up there as you will encounter a "wall" of rock to get to the view point. It will be easier on your body to climb this wall rather than go down on it. Can be done within 2-3h.
