Somers, Connecticut Map

Nice moderate loop hike, nothing too exciting. Most of the loop is unblazed. A portion of the Loop Trail follows a discontinued section of The Shenipsit Trail which is part of the Connecticut Forest and Park blue trail system which passed over Bald Mountain and continued north over the Pinnacle. Trail head located at the intersection of Upper Scully Rd and Bald Mountain Drive. Park at the side of the road or at the gate where the old road enters the forest.

Lightly trafficked trail with so many bugs that it was difficult to see ahead. Besides, until you reach the actual trail, which is about a mile from the parking, the passing cars and trucks kick up a lot of dust. We went there end of August, and unless there’s a better time to visit, we won’t be going back again!

Hiked the path ... the part up to the top on the toad is easy and nice.

Tried the part back through the woods to loop around. Hardly and markers, except one 20 feet from the end.

So if you just hike the road and back ... very nice
If you are trying the woods on the loop back you need AllTrails and enough battery on your phone or you will get lost.

Simply beautiful and so peaceful.

Quite buggy today but a fairly easy hike through beautiful country! Went in through Parker Rd, little difficult finding white dot trail, had to back track down Soapstone Rd but was worth following through woods and off road. Will definitely go back and explore other trails through park and looking forward to see fire tower refurbished and reopened again.

Probably only rated as easy (green) due to the distance of the loop but this terrain is full of large rocks and roots on inclines and descents. It is not “easy” walking, it is a decent hike workout. Especially with two dogs. Trail can be pretty narrow at points but it is very well maintained and very well marked. I saw no scenic views that the Somers town site states and I’m not sure where the “lake and beach” from the other review is. This is definitely just an uphill then downhill trail hike 1.5 mike loop. Not a casual walk.

Also, parking is very small 2-3 cars tops if they park correctly. And it is basically just a clearing on the shoulder of the road. You will park on an incline/slope. Easy to miss.

Great! Could do with family but also enough terrain for the regular hiker! Excellent changes of terrain. Dog and people friendly

This is the best place to go!! Beautiful view if you're willing to go up the broken tower....still worth it. All time favorite spot

Trails have lots of rocks jutting up and tree roots but it is a pleasant walk. I went on a Tuesday so I am guessing it gets more busy on the weekends. I walked for an hour and a half. Encountered one mountain biker, one dog walker and one couple. Nice and quiet. Just the way I like it.

Great hike. Took my 12 and 6 year olds along with our dogs. Perfect distance and beautiful views.

Good trail for starters. Had my five year old and he did great. Some challenging spots on the cliffs on the way back down but he had a blast. Lots to explore for little ones.

Great for walking with dogs. Not very crowded and plenty of trails for exploring.

Just walked to the trails leading to the tower when there was access to it back in 2006 & 2012. Nothing really exciting to see. It's pretty much a place to make out w your significant other. The trails are not difficult at all. Easy enough for a 3 y/o to walk through it.

The first mile and a half is basically a road. The summit is a No Trespassing zone with a bunch of electrical stuff on top...and there's only a small view halfway up the road. The road/trail eventually turns into a real trail and loops around the mountain. My dog loved it and it was short and easy for her. I won't be back though.

Cool place

Mildly steep at some spots but it was a nice walk overall. The pooch went swimming in the lake afterwards as I sat on the beach to take in the sunset. Very well marked trail and for all levels. We'll be back again soon!

Nice Sunday afternoon walk. My GPS cut out and we ended up tacking on 2 miles to the hike. Lots of summer woodland blooms and butterflies.

This hike was very easy, good for a beginner, I thought there would be more of a sight up at the peak of the mountain. But, all the trees cover it. The look out tower was also closed when I went. I feel like this hike would have been more better if the tower was open. Also, while going down the mountain, the markings for the trails are not marked as clear as should be. We ended up getting off track a few times.

Nice trails in the area, low traffic for a beautiful Saturday. Fire tower at top is closed and is covered in graffiti. Fresh tree removal near the picnic area at the top, nice views. Looks like some drive up but most were parking at bottom and hiking around.

Good trail, a bit of a mix of paved road, dirt road, horse/mountain biking trail, and regular foot trail. The view from the top was nice, even though we went while it was cloudy and rainy out. I would suggest this trail as a running trail as well for those that don't mind the rocky parts and the up and down hills. The only thing that was a little annoying was the lack of markings. There were tons of different trails branching off of the main trail I was trying to follow, none of them were marked, including the trail on the map here, so you have to really pay attention to your GPS and try to stick with the trail on the map, unless you feel like exploring of course. Besides that it was a beautiful little trail, I carried my baby and a backpack up it, along with having my dog with me.

Beautiful trails but there are some areas that are difficult to hike especially going up hill.

Good, easy hike, only took a couple of hours with relaxing breaks at points. Would definitely recommend for families and/or people who want to have a nice hike with their dog!

I got there and it was OK. I was expecting to hike up to the tower but found out that it was closed when I got there. Was not many sites to see but it was a quiet hike. I will most likely not be returning to this place

loved it initially, but yes the trail markings arent very clear and are worn down, got lost on the way back about 2 miles out and had to back track, just pay close attention and dont let your dog lead lol

Beautiful views, and a well maintained path going up! Definitely a beginners track. My dog loved it
