This was a very nice place to spend 1-2 hours. Bring boots and be prepared as this is a moderate hike. Quiet, nice views, cool rocks to climb, and a decent amout of wildlife. Trails are very narrow but well maintained. Toads, millipede and some butterflies were around.

Greatly enjoyed this hike. The view was amazing to see

This is one of our go-to loops for a quiet afternoon. The trails are well maintained and easy to use. There are cliff faces for those feeling more adventurous.

I was in town looking for a hike that would get my heart rate up. This is definitely a fun one! Not too hard and not to easy!

Nice views, good uphill walk. But noisy road traffic.

So many ways to enjoy this trail! We hiked up to the rock for the view. But we will be back with bikes and snowshoes (when weather permits).

Really nice hike! Close to Foxwoods, with views of Foxwoods from the top. I took my kids (10 & 9) and we really enjoyed this hike. We stopped at the pond, the wigwam, and took a break at the top. On our way up, we saw a bobcat. Great place, will head back!

Nice, easy trail. Well maintained blue-blazed trail. I would like to head back in the fall for foliage views from the cliff.

Very good hike. Great view from the top. Required a little bit of climbing. Great hike for tourist looking for slight adventure

Hiked the beautiful Upper Chatfield Blue Blazed Trail including the Alternate, Blue and Orange trail from Route 80 to Coughlin Road and back. The trail is in excellent condition which is remarkable considering the devastating winter storms this year. There are a couple of blowdowns but they are easily navigated by going over, under or around the tree trunks. The trail is well marked but don't confuse this Connecticut Forest and Park Blue Blazed trail with the trails inside Chatfield Hollow State Park, which are also very nice. (I did see some reviews of those trails incorrectly posted here.) Love the ledges but keep a lookout for the Turkey Vultures, they are harmless but can startle you!

If this is a top 10 in Connecticut then I’d hate to see what the rest of the hiking trails have to offer. First of all, I’m not so sure that I’d call this moderate as it’s quite easy. Also, what the trail information fails to mention is that the trail overlooks a busy area with loads of roads, etc so you really don’t feel like you’ve gotten out in nature for most of the hike.

Great hike with a great view!

Went last fall. Great hike and view!

Nice hike, saw 2 eagles in flight on the cliffs, I would come back again.

We began the hike from Old Furnace State Park Parking area near Route 6. Using a map downloaded from DEEP, we began our hike. As other's have noted, there are a number of unmarked trails so you have to pay real close attention to the blazes . The view from the cliff is pretty this time of year (April). The hike itself is an easy one, family and dog friendly. Great starter hike for the hiking season.

I’ve hiked these trails since I️ was a child! Great look out points and good incline for exercise!

Mt Higby is one of the best hikes that i have ever done especially because of the scenic views from the top and the hike trial itself. Awesome one...

Poorly marked as to how to get to the top, but once you’re there it’s stunning!

Really fun and a little tricky.

I like this one because the trail is along the cliffs so you get the feeling of being high up most of the time.

Started the hike by going straight to the cliff, came back down and completed the loop. Hiked to the cliff again and came back down and hiked around the pond and down through Ross Pond Marsh and back. Some light snowflakes falling on this chilly late March Sunday. Trees here are developing buds for spring. Total distance is roughly 4.5 miles for everything. I chose not to go down the far side of the cliff due to unclear trail markings. All other trails marked well. One of my all time favorites!

Great hike to the top with beautiful views! I take all 4 dogs with me who also love it!

loved the hike and view!

Fun short hike, great for families and young children, or anyone looking to get outside for some fresh air. To get the most out of the hike I would recommend doing both loops.

Easy simple trail. There is two ways to go up, going to the right you will do loop, going to the left it will be in and out type of hike.

It is a very cold winter day, I will be returning in warmer weather . There was a lot of ice today and the trails weren’t marked that well, went off the trail a bit. Didn’t get too far into the trail but the views we did get to see were nice .

This is my favorite hike!!!
