An amazing challenge! Went out and back, did St Johns right off the bat. I needed my trekking poles for coming down. Great views!

This was a lovely hike! Sunny meadow streams give way to striking rock formations, and you're never too far from a stream or view. The beginning is deceptively rigorous, because after that you go gently up and down a ridge line (I chose not to do the final mile after Caleb Peak).

No more Covid Closure as of 5/24. Did a 14 mile RT, starting at Skiff Mountain Rd, over Caleb's Peak, then the long hike along the Housatonic to Dawn Hill Rd. Pleasant hike.Nice view from Caleb's peak. A refreshing swim in the Housatonic at one of the swim holes was the highlight of the day. Just saw the post about the bad Google Maps directions, which take you over hill and dale and eventually down a closed road. I wound up back tracking on Skiff Mountain Road to where the AT crosses the road just South of Caleb's peak. When I finally hiked past the River Road trail head I learned that you get there by car simply by staying along River Road all the way from Macedonia.

Good warm-up section on the AT if you're training for more hiking. It starts off very level and builds toward more serious work on St John's ledge. Some elevation. Great views.

Gravel paved, babbling brooks and pretty waterfalls near a wooden bridge

This trail has been on my list for awhile and I finally did it. It’s exciting to hike on the AT and the initial trail features are dreamy... then it gets rocky... then a few pretty overlooks before stretches of narrow trail. It was a warm day today, and there were plenty of bugs out n about. Very few hikers. View was worth the gnats - it was the perfect spot to stop and rest and have some trail snacks. Truly, the view is outstanding. Enjoy.

First elevation at the beginning was straight up and then it levels off for a bit, we enjoyed the scramble at the turn around point. I tracked 10 miles and 2779 elevation on my app. It was a hot day and the leaves hadn’t filled in to give you some shade.

Super fun, came to 12.6 miles from parking lot to parking lot (out and back) not too strenuous, lots of flat ground, but lots of fun scrambling as well!

4/27. Moderate hike with some fine views of the Housatonic Valley. From both sides you gain about 600 ft to get to the ridge line which gets your heart rate going, then it’s smooth sailing most of the way with another 300 ft gain to Calebs peak. Trail was perfect, dry and very well maintained. A couple of super easy stream crossings. Weather said 60 but felt like 75-80 with the sun. Crowds were moderate. I saw about 12-15 groups. A nice outing. P.S. I just looked at one of the tracks which turned this into a loop by walking back along the Housatonic, which is a great idea if you don’t like going back the way you came.

This is a nice section of the AT. Definitely on the challenging side. Both Caleb’s Peak & St. John’s Ledge were nice places to look out. The section right at the beginning is straight uphill so be ready to do work from the get go.

There are definitely some short, challenging Sections but a lot of good the trail is flat. Somewhere between hard and moderate I would say. Overall pretty hike!

I did this hike yesterday 4/19 and it was lovely. It is an up-and-down crossing several peaks / high points so expect to still have some work to do on the way back after you reach Caleb’s Peak. I would say the moderate rating is accurate. There are a few stream crossings but the trail was not wet anywhere else. The view at the top is gorgeous.

Came across a black bear just below Caleb’s Peak. Descent of St. John’s Ledges was one of the steepest I’ve done in CT.

it was about 5 miles in one direction, wound up taking the road back because it created a quicker loop. This is definitely more like 10 miles for out and back. Some beautiful views though, and the surrounding area is also gorgeous.

Not much of a hike, but one heck of a view.

Amazing trail- the first 15 mins are a bit difficult due to mainly large rocks and boulders but gets easier once you arrive at St. John’s Legde and then the peak. You can follow the white markers the whole way from the parking on River Road

Love Kent Falls! The waterfall is spectacular! Steep hike up. But my kids could make it up because there are some steps as you get closer to top. Theres a picnic area at entrance and you can bring your dog.
