Amazing view at the top. Some steep sections. If it has been raining a lot recently would recommend red trail over yellow trail or you may do some slipping and sliding.

Confusing trail markers but has a nice lookout spot over the reservoir

We took the kids back in March (ages 10/6/4)... one of the days that was in the high 40s with snow on most of the ground in this slightly higher elevation. We had our boots on, and the little guy got really wet pants from falling in the snow. It was lots of fun, parts were scrambles for the kids over the snowy rocky elevation changes. We made it to the mid-point lookout, which was not panoramic but still very beautiful. We would like to come back in other seasons and do it again!

Super pretty and such an easy trail! One of our favorites

Not too shabby for an up and down in an hour or less. Old ski trail quite fascinating

A decent hike, but note worth the time given the variety of other trails in the area.

Pros: short hike for decent views, cool old ski area equipment, and ability to see the old trails. Also very few people so nice solitude.
Cons: wandering dogs can be dangerous (was attacked on more than one occasion) and the trails are not well maintained. Always bring mace.

This is a very well maintained trail. It passes through towns where you can take a break and even eat if you'd like BUT it is all paved road which i dont like as i have a mountain bike. This is great for road bikes. For walking and mountain biking, it just give you the all-natural outdoorsy feeling.
Good trail if you are a road biker.

Fairly short and easy hike. Great for kids. You have to kind of wander off the trail to see the views, but it was pretty. Would do it again.

Great views

Saturday, June 25, 2016

25-Jun-2016. Today the weather was in the mid 80s with clear blue skies. What a great Saturday afternoon for a hike.

In my opinion this is a longer workout hike. The terrain is rolling with the typical roots and stones to get you or at least your ankles. Most every stream was dry here in June. There was only one decent lookout at around the half way point.

NOTE: From the parking area on route 219, north of Ratlum Rd., heading South the hike was longer than expected. My Garmin Vivosmart clocked the hike in around four hours. That includes breaks.

The total distance, out & back, was recorded at 8.2 miles. The vivosmart claimed I climbed about 108 flights of stairs during the four hours. My quads would agree!

easy to medium trail, nice and easy going

This right here runs along some of the finest cliff jumping in the area. Be careful though over the past few years there have been many mishaps with inexperienced jumpers resulting in many injuries making this a hot zone to throw out tickets for trespassing in the public water supply. do not plan on jumping here if you arent ready to run or swim away in order to dodge a ticket.
great hiking though also :)

If you are starting from the parking lot, keep going up and to the left for the best views

Take the trail straight up from where you are told to park for the Indian Caves in Barkhampstead.

Can't find it.

Wednesday, April 03, 2013

It was a cooler day and slightly muddy from melting snow. The parking lot is easy to find, a few hundred feet off the road , tucked behind a few houses.

The hike is easy and the path is pretty well maintained. There are stone steps when it becomes steeper. There wasn't much of a view even with bare trees, but it was still neat to check out the abandoned ski equipment.

The marked entrance is someone's private driveway. Couldn't even get to it without trespassing. Please list another entrance.
