Kid friendly, easy walk. Not really worth paying $7 to park at the lake

A very nice trail and when I went I didn’t see another soul. The only reason it was not as much fun as other hikes I go on is the fact that my pup can’t enjoy the water since it is a reservoir.

I loved this hike. We parked at the Rainbow Trailhead and hiked to the Reservoir from there (which I highly recommend). We ended up not going the full way around Rampart Reservoir, but still worth it. No real steep inclines. Fairly easy hike both ways.

This is an easy hike, with a gradual descent toward the reservoir.

Take your time, bring the kids, and enjoy the stream that feeds the reservoir. The reservoir is low right now, but gives you a unique and interesting perspective.

Beautiful hike, easy peasy, fast-running stream, and fun for kids. Trail is easy to follow and low reservoir offers unique perspective. Enjoy!

Easy, wide trail and extremely easy to follow. Lots of places for great photos. It’s sad to see how low the reservoir is.
Road to get out there is very wash boarded, so it’s a rough ride, however, it’s a lovely drive.

Nice trail with a lot of good scenery. If it wasn’t for the significant portions of the trail on roads, I’d have rated it 5 stars.

Nice, easy trail to hike with kids.

My two friends and I took 9 children (ages 8 months to 13 years) on this trail. If your children are under 3, I would recommend a stroller or carrier of some kind. I would also recommend sunscreen. We did not make it all the way to the reservoir, but stopped just before it at an inlet that had a slower wading area where the kids had a blast. The water was cold, the rocks were fun to skip, and we stayed there about 45 min to an hour. The problems: trash. I always bring a trash bag with me and by the end of our time there, I had collected a bunch of fishing line and broken glass. ☹️ It wasn't enough for me to worry about my kids playing in the water, but I would highly recommend everyone keeps their sandals or water shoes on while wading. Overall, this was a fun way to spend 3-4 hours and my kids fell asleep within 5 minutes of our trip home. We will be back!

First time up to Rampart and it wont be my last! Started from Rainbow Gulch and walked clockwise. The trail was easy to follow but it did get pretty tight in some spots. There is a good bit of shade overall but some areas are full sun. The parking lot at the dam gets very hot, if hiking with dogs and crossing the dam keep an eye on their feet. Take lots of water and snacks and enjoy the beautiful views!

Gorgeous hike but if you plan on going in the near future leave early or wear good sun protection as it was very warm. My pup and I had a lot of fun and the scenery was just beautiful. I was warned that the Bear traffic was high right now and that they had cubs. The same with the Elk but we did luckily not encounter any as I would not like to interrupt a new Mommy that is out and about.

Great hike , lots of wonderful views , lots of shade

Very beautiful. Pretty creek along trail and plenty of gorgeous flora surrounding trail. Reservoir is less exciting as it is much lower than it once was and just plain, but good for fishing and other recreations. Also saw a bunch of butterflies and birds. Even saw a little bear on our way back. Would come back again.

This was a beautiful hike, kid friendly, and the sound of water would definitely keep me going back to this one!!!

Did part of this hike today with my 10 week old puppy. Very nice. Good starter trail as it’s relatively flat and my puppy doesn’t have a lot of stamina yet. Lots of aspen, partial shade, and a pretty quick moving creek.

Loved the walk along the running creek. Beautiful scenery.

Easy and flat trail. My dog loved playing in the water. Good for young kids, elderly, and strollers. Does get a bit busy at peak times. Not the best views out of some others in the area but definitely one of the easiest.

Gorgeous views of Pikes Peak and surrounding area! I started/ended at Rainbow gulch and my app said I completed 15.73 miles. Relatively flat run for the area but my feet were smoked! I will be completing this run many times in the future!

Beautiful! I started the trail on the other side of the dam for enormous views of Pikes Peak. Side trails take you to the water. Tons of huge rocks on the beach for climbing. The water is so pristine and bright blue/green. Most of the forest on the other side of the lake was burned. I definitely recommend starting this trail from the dam.

Easy trail for us older folks. Through forest, next to creek and around a portion of the reservoir. Great half day hike.

Did the full 16 mile loop from rainbow gulch. Very little elevation gain but definitely tough on the feet. Hadn't planned on doing the whole loop but it was well worth it.

This trail is absolutely gorgeous! It was snowing pretty steady the whole time I was on the trail and it was literally like strolling through a hallmark card. I would recommend this trail to anyone who loves a steady trail and great views. I will definitely be doing this trail again and again!

Long but easy. Wide trail. Beautiful scenery. Follows a gorgeous creek for a while and ends at a lake. Fishing allowed. Saw a lot of families.

Wide trail and very dog friendly. Not difficult, completed in a few hours. Reservoir was pretty and there were many places to throw a stick for the dog. Will do again.

Mostly flat nice trail. Good views but it is along a fairly busy road. We only did the first 4 starting in Woodland Park. I think itget more secluded the further you go.

I was not initially planning on doing the entire loop but ended up being able to! App says distance is 13.1 miles but my GPS said 14.6 by the time I was actually finished. Not any significant elevation gains or technical areas but the trail was not marked at all. Went clockwise and didn't see a trail marker until close to the dam. Popular trail but people weed out the further in you go. I am a novice hiker and would recommend a partner just due to the distance and seclusion.

Loved this walk.... was beautiful....took it after I got off work and still managed to get halfway around the lake....

this rating is for the poor description and the super tiny warning.

I take this trail regularly during the summer and fall. It's my go to running trail. Smooth path with some ups and downs but nothing too crazy. Nice run with amazing views in high altitude, can't get much better.
