The trails are well-groomed and marked well once you figure out the method. Plenty of open space and not too crowded for social distancing purposes. We took the loop clockwise which starts with a nice red dirt canyon with a creek running through it. Ruby Wash trail is the crowning jewel of the loop. You share the trails with bikers and horseback riders but everyone was courteous and there’s plenty of space on the trails. My friend and I had an amazing time exploring this area.

Hiked on 5/16/20. very mundane first several miles, but there are stunning views near the end.

No fee, restroom open again! A nice-easy loop on the prairie with good views as you turn the corners. Bring a sun hat and plenty of water.

parking lot was pretty full when I arrived at 11am. had to park in the trailer lot. but still rarely came across others on the trail. great hike with amazing views and history. be sure to read the signed placed around to learn some cool stuff. there was a bit of a breeze which made it manageable as far as heat goes. even though it was only around 60°, the exposure makes it feel that much hotter. bring plenty of water and enjoy!

Great local trail with very little traffic. Take the mountain bike out for an easy cruise. Mainly soft dirt and gravel with some nicely banked single track. Super pretty prairie landscape. Untouched nature thriving. Keep an eye out for the buffalo.

I didn't make it out to the lookout as I was hiking alone. I ended up hiking the Bent Rock loop on the way back.

Rattlers

Breathtaking views and rock formations. Highly recommend. Go counter clockwise for a fantastic finish

Apt 5 got here at 9am, gate locked. Hopped it and hiked a little over 2 miles to TH. Modified where we went, ended up doing almost 9 miles back to the car. Beautiful hike but very crowded on last 4 miles; lots of folks trying to avoid the crowds closer to Foco.

Great trail - beautiful views of the mountains. Saw bison and pronghorns. No mud no snow. Bathrooms closed for covid-19. Great park!

3.22.20 - Quarantine, BOREantine! We arrived at about 7:20am and were the only ones in the lot. Light jog, 1:50ish later and only 2 more cars on a Sunday in March! If you want secluded, this is a good spot. I would avoid personally in the heat of the summer, unless you’re in to that sort of thing - this would be a hot trail in July/August. No shade, beautiful red cliff scenery. Definitely be back for more exploring.

2/29/20 - We showed up hoping to hike only to find out that Red Mountain open spaces is closed from December to March :/ We missed it being open by one day. You drive down a road for about 7 miles only to get to a locked gate that is 2.5 miles from the trailhead. But 3 stars because the drive is beautiful!

Combine Bentrock and this loop for an amazing 7.5 mile experience. What a view! No shade for warm months, bring water, snacks and a hat.

Sinking Sun to Salt Lick to Ruby Wash to Bent Rock. Very enjoyable hike in mid October. Very exposed. The hike through the red cliffs of Ruby Wash was fantastic. Not much elevation change but the dry wash portion of Ruby Wash will exercise your stabilizing muscles. Interesting geology (with trail signs explaining the processes at work) along Bent Rock. Well worth your time in the shoulder seasons.
