Beautiful hike on a bluebird day . There is a solid trench in up to the summer trailhead And we got by with just micro spikes. Beyond that snowshoes were helpful.

Great trail! Had to start at parking lot as road is closed. Total length was 5.2 miles with 1,066 elevation gain. Definitely recommend snow shoes! Would make the snow much easier to navigate but doable without. Awesome trail with few people!

This was awesome! Beautiful and lonely; we did not see another soul all day. It's not particularly slippery yet, though there was new snow. Path was very easy to follow.

There was an inch of new snow, but we did not need traction. We hiked on Friday and did not see another soul on the entire hike. It was somewhat cold, but not very windy. The trail up to American Lakes was wide and quite easy to follow. We lost the trail on the way up to Snow Lake, but it was still quite easy to scramble our way up. We just had to be a little extra careful on the rocks. Very fun day!

It’s tough to get to the trailhead right now. 4wd with a lift is my recommendation. Difficult but great

Oh this trail is so beautiful! Currently the trail and road to the trailhead is snowy yet melting rapidly. I drive a front wheel drive car so I parked down below and hiked up to the trailhead. Hiked to lake Agnes and then took the ditch trail down towards the American trailhead and Crags campground. There were no people or tracks given the 5-6 inches of snow. Fun to see moose tracks, lots of deer and bunny, and got to spook an owl in that area. Very peaceful! I suggest wearing hiking boots given the snow and muddy trails.

Great hike with my dog. Saw cars in the lot but very few hikers doing the same trail. Trail was hard to follow after I summited but we were never too far off. Definitely wildlife in the area. Noticed elk/moose dropping along the path and my dog wanted to sniff every single tree from then on. Would do this again.

Moderate about of people on the trial (11am -1 pm) this time of year. bring layers, it's windy. absolutley beautiful lake to hike to. trail was well established and downed trees were place to keep you from wandering off in the wrong direction. trying to get to the trailhead in anything but a truck or suv would be extremely difficult

We loved this hike. Beautiful fall colors, moose sighting, and lovely lakes. The last section of trail up to Snow Lake was challenging but doable if you are a strong hiker.

The trial was in great shape. Nice shade for first few miles. Windy and scenic at the lakes. The trek to Snow Lake was worth the extra effort. Beautiful alpine mountain scenery.

definitley closer to 8 miles but truly amazing hike!

Amazing scenery! Female moose ran across the trail in front of us. Saw several deer on the low end as well.

Did this yesterday (9/29), and it was absolutely beautiful. Got a reasonably early start at about 8:30. Only light traffic on the trail, and the parking area was only about 1/4 full. This is the best time of year to hike up there, as it was cool with blue sky, yellow aspen on the surrounding mountains, and yellow willows in the drainage. Even though the trail is rated moderate, there aren't any particularly challenging parts. Friends from sea-level did suffer from the altitude a bit though. We saw only one moose, but that might have been because there were a couple of unleashed and poorly controlled dogs on the trail ahead of us. There are many nice camping spots around the lakes and there are several side trips from the lakes that are straightforward, such as climbing up to Snow Lake and hiking to Thunder pass (looking into Rocky Mountain NP). It's a bit of a drive, but from the trailhead, it is one of the highest reward-to-effort hikes I've done.

Steep at parts. Didn’t think the trail was as hard to follow as some described!

Great trail, awesome for camping and fishing. This trail is really well maintained and gorgeous every step of the way. Be prepared for all weather, if in direct sunlight, can be warm but as you near the top this can turn to snow quickly.

Fishing wasn’t that great, lots of extra weight to carry a long way for little pay-off. Great hike, and tough. It’s pretty cold up there now, around 25 at night with strong winds. Great views, the hike up takes 3x as long as the hike down; can definitely be done as a day hike from the campground below.

Lake Agnes is incredible. The view from above is awesome. I made the saddle before turning back due to high winds and scree / boulders. This is boulders and scree from Agnes on up. Pretty steep so the trip down is a bit of an issue in places. If you like down climbs where breaking an ankle on a shifting boulder or getting caught up in a scree slide are possible this hike is for you.

Beautiful hike, lots of shade. The trail along the lake is all rock on one side so I watch your step. But super cute, loved it.

Great trail! To the upper lake it’s about 4.1 one way. The trail was not crowded at all.

Brief trail and a good workout. Lovely and not very busy on a Friday. We were two of four people total at the lake. Good place to sit and enjoy the views. Take a picnic and relax.

Arrived just before the sunrise and saw 7 moose total from start to finish (mostly by the parking area and entrance road). Also saw a bear about 1.5mi in across the open valley / river area. Easy, beautiful hike all around!

Did this hike in July of 2018 leading a crew of Boy Scouts. Probably my favorite place I visited while hiking in the Rawah Wilderness. Hike isn’t too bad if you come from the Blue lake side. Nearing the lakes there was a huge patch of melting snow on the trail that could be dangerous if you aren’t careful. Highly recommend if you’re in the area

Lots of road hiking, followed by two sections that are a bit of a slog. After the road, which is kinda boring, there's a decent amount of loose rock on the trail. The final push is a mile of suck with a full pack weight and tired feet. All considered though, a cool hike. It's cold (20's F) there in the mornings and as soon as the sun goes below the ridgeline, and the the wind certainly doesn't help warm you up. If only backcountry fires were permitted in this area.....!!

The last bit to the top lake is challenging, but so worth it.

Pretty fun off roading trail. Some ares are pretty tough. Lots of side by sides. Also very windy at some points as your on top of the mountain. It is archery/ black powder season up there so be aware of hunters.
