Relatively tough trail with great views. Did it in just over two hours a day after landing in Colorado. Gondola down is fun. Also meets up with strawberry lane if you choose to start from Vail Village

A great trail for the family. A couple of steep spots but pretty gentle climbs most of the time.

This was a nice, relaxing trail that didn't require a ton of effort (not sure why it's rated as hard - moderate at best). Be sure to explore the area around the falls.

This hike is not for the faint-hearted but 1000% worth it. It is a looong 6+ miles up to the lake (my fitbit recorded 8). The hardest parts are the first incline of the hike and that last 2 miles after the junction at the gravesite. It took us about 4.5 hrs to get up to the lake and about 4 for the trek down. If you have weak ankles like me, wear your high-top boots and take your time coming down. The steps are steep and there are loose rocks. We did a day-trip but next time will plan to bring our packs an stay the night on the lake because we wish we could've spent more time up there and fish in the morning and evening. We fished from about 1 to 3:30 pm but it was pretty windy by then and the water was rough -- only saw a few rises and had a couple nibbles but no catches. In hindsight we would've gotten an earlier start to the hike (we started about 8:30 am) so that we could've fished longer. If you're planning a day-trip, definitely start as early as you can so that you can take the time to relax and enjoy the lake and still have plenty of time to hike down before it gets dark. WILDLIFE - there is a ton of life on this trail, as you hike along the creek for most of it and also through some meadows. We saw a family of foxes as well as some mule deer. We did also see a giant moose track and some bear poop so they were definitely around somewhere. Additionally, right now the wildflowers are still in bloom AND the aspens and leaves are starting to turn for fall -- that combo made for incredible vibrant colors that are gorgeous. All in all - this hike was amazing and worth the challenge. We will definitely be back here. Never have been disappointed by Eagles Nest Wilderness.

Basin below the pass is beautiful! Steep climb to the top of the pass and scree skiing on the way down.

my favorite hike in this area. beautiful 360 degree views. bottom is wet in early summer. September is a great time to hike this trail.

Beautiful views! Very moderate trail with a couple of climbs. Took us two hours round trip with a little stop at the top. Parking lot was empty when we got there at about 945am on a Friday but was pretty packed once we got back around noon. Definitely recommend this hike!

We thought this was a great trail, especially if you are visiting and getting accustomed to altitude, etc. the ride up was bumpy but had beautiful scenery for the passengers of course. It was a blend of all the cool things Colorado hiking offers. Pretty easy to do. Highly recommend! Just a beautiful day

One of my local favorites for a quick hike. A potpourri of everything. I was out yesterday (9/10) morning with my dog (on leash!). Descending down from the Falls (about 0.3 miles) we startled a mountain lion. Fortunately it ran away from us! Just a reminder to all to be aware (& prepared).

Great trail! Moderate hike with terrific views! Still a few wildflowers.

Lake is beautiful but lots of work to get there. two gps readings over 12miles over 3200 ft elevation. Over 4miles in the woods. Views are at the end.

This hike is right by my house so I will go again but the grasshoppers are annoying. Yess. Grasshoppers. And you hear 70 traffic most of the time. Also if you go from Buffehr Creek or Davos to Red Sandstone you have a climb that’s straight up, no real switchbacks, no shade, for about 800-900 ft. It’s very overgrown. I prefer the Davos section of this trail for shade and a gentler climb. Also if you come from Buffehr beware that the turn off sign/turn can be missed and you can keep hiking up Buffehr Creek Trail, which leads another 1000 ft up to nowhere, you would have to turn around.

Arrived on Tuesday @ 6:45am. Took my time with a few extra breaks. Completed this with my 6lb yorkie. Hardly any bugs, perfect weather, challenging and lucky we were basically the only ones on the trail. Lake is a beauty early in the am with crystal clear water.

A great, great hike. But the first mile and the last 1.5 are steep! Took me about 4 hours to get to the lake (with a pack) and about three to get down, both directions at a moderate pace. Camp at the lake if you can — it’s beautiful. If you climb the hill the to the left of the lake it will give you great 360 degree views of the entire valley. Did this on 9/7 to 9/8.

We really enjoyed the hike. Forested then open up to beautiful vistas and meadow atop the mountain

Shrine Ridge Trail was in very good shape today, with some puddles and mud spots along the way from yesterday's rain, but nothing too big or bad. The wildflowers are mostly gone, but there were still some pockets and fields of wildflowers along the way. The view of the rock formations between here and Copper Mountain were a sight to behold. Started out very quiet on the trail at 8am, but picked up on the way back down - left to a nearly full parking lot a few hours later..

Beautiful and challenging hike, particularly the half above the falls. Still with lots of wild flowers. Loved it!

What a stunning trail! Great mix of meadow and forest. Amazing views of the back bowls at Vail and of Copper Mountain. And there were still some flowers too!
