Very easy hike-there were herds of sheep near the last half of the hike and we were with our dogs so we didn’t make it to the top. We were told by others that there’s a herding dog that isn’t friendly. This hike would be really pretty in the fall because it’s surrounded by aspens! Tons of sun and not much shade for dogs so bring extra water!

Tackled this trail after not hiking in the Rockies for over 5 years. The beginning is an intense experience, gaining a lot of elevation quickly. After about 2 miles, it has more level ground but will steadily increase in elevation until you reach the lake at about 6 miles. It was very challenging for someone like myself who moved from sea level in North Carolina a month ago but other, more experienced hikers seemed to be cruising along. The views were worth every moment of short breath! Final note, AllTrails may say this trail is a little over 9 miles but I used a GPS tracker and it tracked me at 11.32 start to finish. Just something to consider. Overall, finished in 6 hours. 7/21/2018

Gorgeous wildflowers and views all along the way, large portions of aspen groves and lots of shady areas and creeks so the dogs loved it too! Definitely hike up to the falls! About 6 mi round trip with some elevation gain but nothing overwhelming. Would recommend hiking boots over tennis shoes.

This trail was really fun although it was super hard! Saw a lot of marmots and some mountain goats. Really beautiful lake and falls as well!

This was a great moderate hike for us (28 year old and 60 year old dad from Texas). It took us about 2.5 hours round trip. Beautiful wildflowers, meadows, and views. We took a right at the “top” and really enjoyed the cool rock formations. Highly recommend this hike!

Walking through the verdant valley, with wildflowers and the aspens towering was incredible, Multiple environments like meadows, swampy areas, rock faces, groves of aspens, and ultimately, the rocky waterfall made the ups & downs in the second half worth it, although the flies were a bit extreme (don’t stop for more than 30 seconds once you’ve hit halfway, or they start biting!). The falls are beautiful, yet very busy. Are drones going to become the Colorado State Bird?

Pro tip: do not attempt the drive to the trailhead in anything less than an SUV, else your suspension and undercarriage are going to be pushed to their limits. Very, very rocky road for 11 miles from highway to trailhead.

Beautiful views and lot's of wild flowers in mid July.

beautiful hike. saw moose and lots of wildflowers

We went 3 days ago on a Sunday at around 4 pm and there weren’t too many people, and the wildflowers are BREATHTAKING! At their peak - we kept stopping to take pictures of the wildflowers and the great views. Awesome.

Beautiful, fairly easy hike. The trails was pretty packed, which at times was hard cause it was so narrow, but manageable. The views were stunning and the wild flowers were amazing!

Gorgeous views. Took a 5yo and 8yo it was tough but they crushed it! Great hike

lovely walk, not too strenuous for kids.

easy but nice hike did it in about 2 1/2 hours with a torn meniscus so good hike for anyone

Beautiful views.

Beautiful waterfall but this should be rated as hard.
Extremely steep and dangerous.
Half the hike is walking through a neighborhood.

Beautiful and easy hike with a big payoff. The wild flowers are gorgeous and the views are breathtaking. Perfect hike to take out of town guests not yet acclimated to the altitude. FYI dogs are allowed off leash as long as they are under voice command. Met up with someone who felt the need to tell me my dog (who is a gentle sole and completely ignored her) should be on a leash. I corrected her and moved along. Besides one crabby lady, it was a perfect hike!

Wonderful hike! Wildflowers are abundant right now on the hike (though unusually sparse in the meadows along the road). Hike all the way to the top and then to the right to the red rock formations. Walk down into the small glens to the left when you reach the red rocks - colorful wildflowers fill the entire glens! Spectacular Mountain Views!!!

When we first got there, I was surprised this was at the ski resort. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. You wind through the trees on the way up, which provides some nice shade and some beautiful views. It’s a fairly difficult hike, the elevation is brutal and it’s steep. But definitely worth it and great exercise. There are restaurants and activities at the top, and you can ride the gondola down if you want to. We did because we were pressed for time but I’d love to go again someday when we aren’t so rushed. The wildflowers were very pretty.

We had tried this hike last year, early June, and couldn’t take the road to get to the trailhead because of snow. Luckily this year we came in mid July and were able to do it. The trail is a steady incline, but nothing too steep or strenuous. Beautiful wildflowers throughout the trail, and beautiful panoramic views. Saw a few chipmunks at the summit, but unfortunately we didn’t see any goats as others have! Will definitely do this hike again.

Abundant wildflowers, beautiful forest, gorgeous views.

Great day. Excellent trail for array of hikers (5 to 50) with beautiful views, wildflower meadows and vestigial snow (a must for our Florida crew).

Beautiful trail. The views are well worth the climb.

The wildflowers are beautiful right now! This hike is a great one for families, as you get panoramic views without the intense elevation gain it generally takes to reach the top of a ridge line. One thing to note - the trail is narrow and can get crowded so it’s worth going early in the morning or later in the evening.

Beautiful trail with beautiful views. Made it 2.5 miles with three kids in tow (ages 9,9,11) and they loved it. We stopped at the creek and rested/played in the water. Aspen pine area took my breath away.

Great hike through the valley for all ages. Worth the work for the view. You can climb down to get in the river at the top. Before the falls stopping area there is a spot to climb down to the front of the waterfall for awesome pics.

Went yesterday and flowers were at their peak. Go early and avoid weekends if possible.

Previous reviews almost convinced me not to go on this trail. Rest assured, there is no rock climbing in the traditional sense but there is a lot of rock stepping. This trail is easily done without trekking poles though you should use them if you have them. This is a great hike for a workout with a decent reward at the end. Be prepared! It is uphill the whole way! Take deliberate steps and use the rocks for traction and you’ll rock this hike!

A new favorite. Well maintained dirt road to trailhead. Will come again!

I would’ve said four star but husband and son said two. I would definitely say it’s more difficult than a moderate due to the ropes and the difficulty getting back down. The waterfall is beautiful. It’s a great hike if you know what you’re getting into, but as others have said, definitely not for small kids, even those under 13, IMHO.
