First thing I want to say is that is not an "easy" trail. I think people are lured into thinking this is going to be an easy walk or ride, and it's simply not. We are experienced hikers and took trekking poles for balance etc. We are really happy we did. There are some fairly technical areas that require good balance. That being said, this is a beautiful hike. You will weave through forest, wildflowers, Aspen groves and at about 3.75 miles in, you'll reach the lake which is honestly beautiful. While coming out, we encountered a couple of fairly novice mountain bikers who were young, but daunted by the rocky and steep outcroppings. They were walking their bikes due to the technical aspects. We saw another rider who was obviously very seasoned, flying down the hill...so it's fun for everyone, but if you are new to hiking or biking, be warned, this is not an easy trail.

Long and easy hike. Have few pretty openings but the lake is the best of it. So quiet and peaceful. Just makes you realise how awesome the nature is. I would advice to take bugs spray with you. Mosquitoes were crazy back there.

The second star is based purely on convenience since the Sandstone trailhead is basically my backyard. Otherwise, this trail can be very annoying. It’s single track so anytime you pass another hiker or biker you have to jump off the trail into very tall brush, which is not easy to do with two dogs. Mountain bikers seem to love this trail though, there’s always a ton of them. I love taking in the views of Vail, but the highway noise isn’t ideal. If would definitely not recommend this trail if you’re visiting, there are way too many other trails worth checking out.

OK trail for hiking, nothing more than an access road to the cell towers. Trail surface was decent but most of it was in the open sun. Suggesting an early start to at least have a little bit of shade.

Single track, no shade and can hear the cars on the highway all the time

Great Hike! Lost lake is beautiful.

Be ware of the mosquitos and bugs close to the like. I recommend to Camp far from the lake and go to have lunch or dinner.

We hike my mother my wife and my 3 year old kid. It is a easy hike for usual hikers for my mother, wife and kid was just enough.

I liked the hike it has open parts and a lot of trees in other parts.

Enjoy!

Well maintained, paved trail. Lots of picnic benches and amazing views of the aspens and river. Beautiful memorial park off the main trail, worth a stop if you’re looking for something low maintenance to do in town. Lots of bicycle traffic and a little noisy due to being so close to the Interstate.

Beautiful hike! Not sure why people below said it was only somewhat scenic....this hike has gorgeous wide-open views of the Gore Range, Vail ski area. Holy Cross, New York Mtn, etc. About the best views you can get around here without summiting a mountain! The lake is pretty too. Great quick day hike, not too strenuous. Wear sunscreen, not a lot of shade on the trail.

Perfect hiking

Well the trail looks amazing. However it is closed until June 30th 2018. It’s just a seasonal closure.

Great hike. We did the hike after the first snow of the season and the trail was extremely muddy. Beautiful views of Vail Valley. You do get some road noise from I-70. Good first hike after arriving in Vail from east coast.

Easy and beautiful! Perfect for picnics too!

Great trail today. Hike to the 3.3 mile elevation. Beautiful aspen forest. Should be good for a couple more days

Somewhat scenic. Mainly pines with some aspens. Good views back to Vail ski area. Long, easy hike to lake. Agree to probably choose other lake hikes due to length and disappointing scenery with many cleared areas along the trail.

It was a long hike. Not marked at all. Not difficult. Views are decent getting there but honestly I would maybe look into other lakes. It was quite a long hike for what we
Felt we got at the end

It's a really easy hike with a clear path and hardly any elevation gain. Some of the views are nice and the hike itself isn't that interesting. I think it would be more fun to Mtn. Bike or run it! Still a great way to get outside!

Saw a lot of wildlife! Beautiful hike in the fall when everything is yellow!

I live at base of this, my main squeeze trail. Great Aspens for change of season colors. And a good workout 6 mile loop.

Nice and easy climb with wonderful views overlooking vail. It is a little bit noisy with I70 in the background. This would be a perfect starter trail if you wanted something close to the heart of vail.

Nice views of Vail. Well maintained trail that dips into Aspens, to sage brush, to Aspens.

I rode this trail after hearing some of my mountain biker friends talk about how much they enjoyed the views. I headed out to ride and snap some photos. This trail truly does not disappoint. It is an out and back so that means in order to be good for mountain biking you'll need to first ride uphill. The uphill can be rough at times but the views, wildlife, and ride down are all worth it! This is a fantastic way to see Vail's back bowls in the summer.

Enjoyable trail. Dusty this time of year and lots of sun exposure. Lake at the end is well worth the walk. Steady climb with a few steep sections.

A beautiful fairly easy hike, but it's becoming increasingly trafficked. Tricky to find parking and it's rather crowded once you make it up to the lake.

We hiked the Lost Lake trail on July 5, 2017. Two kids and a dog.... Great family day hike. Interesting terrain and not too difficult. Most of the uphill is on the way in (good for kids)!
