stick time in 2008 jeep jk sport with 2018 rubicon wheels and tires minamal. off road experienced only. stock jeep WITH large tires made it no problem. NOT for faint of heart but completely navigable with patience and good equipment. Steps is only technical portion. you will know when u reach them. weather comes out of nowhere. worth the trip and understandable why it's on jeeps badge of honor trail list.

Fantastic off roading experience. Snow and rain made it a bit slippery and had to take it real slow but crazy beautiful views.

Always a fun trail. It is fun to go down and drive into such a scenic area. The problem with this trail is the idiots who think they are cool or something and take their dads Rav4 down. It clogs up the trail and is moronic. T-case and transmission are your friend on this one.

Another trail off my bucket list

Amazing views, one challenging section. Lots of fun!!

This trail would be great for a local person just looking for exercise, rather than a tourist looking to experience the views and scenery that the area is known for. The trail is relatively flat but the All Trails distance description from the parking area they mention to Ilium is actually longer - about 6.5 miles round trip. There is quite a bit of road noise and limited views of the waterfalls without taking a detour off the main trail. A portion of the hike is along the rivers edge but there the trail is running through private land so you can’t actually get to the water. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you’re looking for a hike in this area. And yes, signs posted everywhere - “no dogs”.

Awesome trail. We went up to the lakes area and explored a bit then headed over to the Gold King Basin trail which wasn't mentioned anywhere. It was totally worth while. The road was rocky and bumpy, but easily done in our 4X4 Tacoma and 4X4 4Runner. Had lunch at the end of the trail and were entertained with several chipmunks and woodchucks nearby. The views were gorgeous.

Have more info once trip is completed.

Beautiful views.

Awesome easy hikes multiple trailheads to explore

Pretty quick and easy ride up to the trailhead for Bridal Veils & Blue Lake. The trail is pretty rocky and I don't think a sedan would make it but any higher clearance vehicle would be fine.

Giving this hike 1 star is REALLY low class. Come on people you are rating a nature trail, not a hotel experience.

Let me correct the 'Trail Divas' below (complaining about lack of shade...really?!) by saying that the scenery on this hike is absolutely gorgeous and this is a great hike if you do not wish to spend the whole day hiking and want to spend part of your day in Telluride.

Going early eliminates some of the crowd (and sun) and the cars driving up, but I didn't expect extreme solitude being so close to town. We did this hike to warm up for some bigger hikes later in our week long trip and this was perfect. This box canyon is absolutely breathtaking and packs almost un-obstructed scenery the entire hike.

Short and sweet. Good, healthy climb. You’ll find yourself in front of stellar views, enveloped in an aspen glade, then towering evergreens soon thereafter. Wonderful. Would rate this as moderate instead of hard.

This is a cute- short trail with great views. Good for little ones to feel like an explorer. Can take Big Billies Trail back towards The Peaks- though that's an incline with no shade, fyi.

This is one of my favorite trails in the area! Varied terrain through Aspen forests with great viewpoints out over the Telluride valley and surrounding mountains. I would probably rate it as moderate-difficult rather than difficult.

A lot of steep climbing culminating in spectacular views!

Beautiful views of Telluride and a GREAT workout!

Beautiful and convenient hike if you are visiting Telluride. Tons of Aspens.

Such a beautiful hike with great views. Wouldn’t recommend going if it is your first hike in that altitude. Also it helps to go earlier in the morning to avoid some of the heat. To also help with the heat I recommend going to the left path and not the right because of a rough climb up and exposure to a lot of sun

Great in an out trail! At the end of the trail don’t go up and cut across the meadow to get down. It’s prettier just to go in and back.

Pretty intense trail. Was doing great until we hit the steps, scraped the side of the truck a bit. All in all well worth it!

Made this trek in my 2012 Nissan Titan crew cab, pretty much stock with slightly oversized tires

One of the top trails in Colorado

Hot and sunny. A steep climb and rock decent but all worth it. A great hike and workout.

Hot/sunny in the pm west to east, especially the beginning, but stunning and fun!

Good warm hike for harder hikes later in the week

Hands down my favorite trail in the area. It is difficult, and you should be an experienced off road driver, but its not completely insane or anything. We did it in a (brand new) stock TRD Pro 4 runner, and I scraped the drivers nerf bar a couple times, but that was the only thing that touched.

The climb up is moderately difficult at most, the only thing i would consider an "obstacle" is the waterfall at the summit, which is a fun little climb, but you can bypass it, we made it up with no contact or wheel spin.

The summit is amazing as it opens up and there is plenty of room for parking, picnicking, etc. The views are absolutely stunning and might be my favorite point in Colorado. (See the photos from my drone in the photo section)

The descent starts out moderate, with a drop off on you left, but the trail is still decently wide (relative term), just pay attention and there won't be any issue.

The steps are a bit tricky to navigate, and you may pull a wheel off the ground depending on your line choice, but the risk of catastrophe is relatively low as long you're paying attention.

The road is very narrow past the steps and is basically a rock shelf at points, with a drop off on your left and a rock wall on the right. Its not terribly challenging, but it may get to the nerves of some, This is where the trail gets its fame as the descent into Telluride starts, the road is narrow, rocky, and shows you a 1000' drop at points, but again, its just your nerves that get to you, its really not super challenging. The switchbacks are tight, but have room for a 3+ point turn depending on how close to the edge you're comfortable getting.

As i said, we did it in a Stock TRD Pro 4 runner, but i never even locked the rear end, just used 4L over the majority of the pass, and mostly for engine braking purposes. Other vehicles seen that day that did the whole trail were an Unlimited Jeep JK (Duh), A Crew Cab Tundra, A GMC Suburban, and another Identical 4 runner to ours. Shorter is definitely better, but anything shorter than a full size crew cab pickup (F-250 etc) with a decent amount of ground clearance will make it, anything longer than a crew cab, short bed, half ton pickup would have hell, and even those will need a bit of lift and 33's or so. Longer vehicles will most likely drag bottom or rocker panels in a few spots, so use that info as you will! Enjoy!

Very scenic trail for off-roading purposes. You occasionally run into a hiker or mountain-biker, but for the most part, it’s all 4x4’s. The views are spectacular throughout the trail but the best views are when you come down the waterfall. To all those wielding a camera and shooting in daylight hours, jump (at your own risk) across the waterfall and get a shot of your vehicles coming down. The switchbacks are technical but not overwhelming. We were in a long bed company truck and successfully maneuvered the turns with little effort.
Happy trails!

I did this mountain biking. I had never been mountain biking before so this trail was very challenging and overwhelming. This was just because I was inexperienced. I was exhausted at the end but mostly because I was working hard and was also scared. Saw some experienced bikers pass us having a blast through the trail. Had some great views of the mountains.
