Great hike that we did with only hiking shoes. Slushy and soft in some parts which left us wet and cold up to our knees at time. Still completely doable and the views are great. At the time of the hike, it hadn’t snowed for a week. Snowshoes or spikes would have been nice to have but not a necessity

Great loop. Lower part was a bit muddy. Upper ⅔ of trail was snow packed. Did it in trail running shoes and had to scramble a bit in spots to keep footing. Some type of crampons might help depending on your balance.

Snowshoeing was great!

Started the trail from the opposite end, by Meadows parking area. The first part of the trail was a bit muddy and icy, as it was on a part of the hill more exposed to the sun. As soon as the trail wound around to the other side of the hill, the snow was deep and ample. The trail is fairly narrow in parts, but overall was a lovely snowshoe trek with few other people.

nice hike, we weren't able to go the whole way cause of a prior avalanche. beautiful views the whole way. used snowshoes towards the end.

My husband and I adventures out on a clear, sunny, cold day on snowshoes. We had quite a hike up to get on the trail itself but once we picked it up, thoroughly enjoyed the views and even came across some lovely birds. It was a hard hike on snowshoes with the depth of the snow but that’s part of the reason we love it!

Great trail that we cannot wait to do again . We got within 1/4 of a mile from the top but had left our snowshoes in the truck .... with hip high snow I fought with my more sensible self and was defeated ... we will return with our snowshoes and tackle this beaut again !!!!!

Beautiful and peaceful but you must have snowshoes!!!!

Nice lift ride up and a beautiful home down. It is not a pristine trail, but the views are great.

Difficult but beautiful. Very snowy, but a lot of the trail was narrow so snowshoes might be awkward. Have layers and prepare to get really hot if it’s a sunny day (mid January)

should be re named pipeline trail to k. crater

I drove up Yankee Boy to the upper lot with a stock Jeep without much difficulty. As written in previous reviews, the skree can be a little demoralizing but it's doable. I would not attempt if the weather was sketchy. Once you get to the saddle it becomes a fun hike/climb with better footing. There's one class 3 move at the top. I've found it helpful to work with a hiking partner to make sure nobody is coming from the opposite direction. The panoramic view from the summit over the Blue Lakes is spectacular and makes the journey well worth it.

this trail is on private property and is extremely steep and vague. One could easily get lost in here and there are many cliffs Many downed trees to climb over along the way and sorry this is not a good spot for mushrooms.
