This is an easy scenic hike through fields of wildflowers. We only saw 3 other people all day. The trail is narrow and there are bugs so would recommend lightweight hiking pants and bug spray. The flowers and views make it worth it.

Beautiful hike filled with great views and lots of flowers. There are no signs indicating it is Windy Ridge and the drive up to the parking lot looks like a campsite but it’s not. The trail was also pretty quiet and we only saw a few groups of hikers.

Beautiful hike. After the upper falls the trail smooths out. So many flowers and the snow was gone. Just a few wet spots. Definitely hard because it is long and the first half is very rocky. Those rocks are pretty tough going down when your legs are tired. Round trip took us 6 hours including lunch at the top.

Great trail! Made it to the upper falls with our 8 and 12 year old adopted grand kids. Beauty all around. Next year we start earlier and go to the lake.

Definitely more of a cross country trail. We lost the trail in the meadow about a mile in. Pretty wild flowers but there are many better trails in the steamboat area.

Amazing hike! Everywhere I looked I was greeted with beauty! Do not miss this gorgeous adventure!

Absolutely loved this trail! It’s name is very appropriate and the views are great. I did this with my family.

This hike is stunningly beautiful. If you have bad knees you may want to take hiking sticks for the downhill and if you have to bushwhack as we did. The satellite map download is a must for this hike, you will frequently lose the trail. A huge tip; if you want to take the trail clockwise, start up the main trail from the parking area and in about 600 feet, take a sharp left, almost a u-turn onto the clockwise direction trial. Yesterday and today there were three balloons tied to a tree where you take the left u-turn but those can disappear in the future leaving this turn unmarked. Yesterday we thought the balloons were trash and continued to walk straight, taking the counter clockwise hiking direction. Occasionally you will see blue diamonds on the trees but you cannot rely on these to mark the trail. The satellite map which was critical to staying close to on-trail ate up my battery life. I would take a back-up battery device.

Pretty good trail for those who don't want to be at a trailhead first thing in the morning but still want distance. there were a few fallen trees toward the beginning of the trail. The muddy spots and water crossings are all within the 1st mile and aren't bad at all. Think more Ninja Warrior balance than dangerous to cross.

it is definotely lightly trafficked so some areas are a little overgrown. The weather was overcast so on a sunny day it would be warm since you are exposed on the ridge. I appreciated the note about the fork in the road (read earlier post) because we almost missed it. Additional note: This falls within open range area, and we did hear Shotgun shots.

Amazing hike with beautiful waterfalls!

Unfortunately, I had to turn around about .5 from the lake due to a lot of snow on the ground that I couldn’t navigate through. A lot of snow still on the trail. The spots without snow were either somewhat muddy or wet with snow run off. Will probably perfect in 3-4 weeks!

This hike is absolutely gorgeous, and I’d recommend going down to the lake. Be careful though, there are a lot of wildlife! We almost ran into a moose, it was a beautiful sight though. I’d say this hike is actually very easy, just muddy especially early in the season. The trail can be a little hard to find at the beginning we got lost a few times.

Beautiful. Only drawback is highway traffic. Lots of snow.

Clockwise traversal on a partially cloudy day. Snow quality was mostly a mixed bag of packed powder and crunchy sun-baked powder. great stump with a view for lunch break at about 2.5 miles in. some good steeps leading to the summit. Easy to share with skiers.

Great trail with good combination of terrain. Great markings, easy to follow & lots of fun.

Really fun! Counterclockwise is hard but fun

Went today in the middle on some snow and fog but no wind at all. The trail is as challenging but has beautiful continuous rollers that allow for effort and rest alike. Bring water, your favorite “victory” drink and snacks as this will test your endurance if the snow is deep. Love it!

I'm out of shape, in my mid-30s, and did the 1B loop in about 4.5 hours. Solitude, beauty, challenge, photo ops. Great fun.

It doesn't seem like 1A or 1B is accurately represented on AllTrails, at the moment.

Was a great loop: so much amazing powder! counterclockwise is definitely harder ;)

The trail is narrow and somewhat steep at parts, making for a good challenge. It was well packed and microspikes worked great! Didn’t make it to the lake, but there were some beautiful views along the way. About half way up it clears and levels a bit for some beautiful views. Waterfall is at the base

Beautiful hike with enough ups and downs to make it interesting! I should have followed the advice that I read on several reviews of this trail and gone clockwise, but alas, I failed to listen and went counter! There is a rather large incline to get up to the meadows and I’m certain it would have been easier coming down than going up. No worries, though, either way is beautiful!

If you take this trail counterclockwise the steep portion is around 2 miles. I was told this was the easier route to take. Trail conditions were packed and it was an easy snowshoe. Plan on between an hour and a half to two hours plus depending on how many stops you make to enjoy the views.

Amazing trail!!
Unfortunat there was no path anymore a 1/2mile before the 2nd waterfall so i navigated with GPS
It took me 2 days in a row making my way through knee deep snow to get 3/5 of the way to the lake.
I hope that someone wil follow my path soon before fresh snow and wind covers it en finishes it for me to the lake!!
So bummed that im leaving en cant finnish it myself tomorrow :(
Please let me know if you did!

Challenging hike but great views from the top.

Definitely do it clockwise.

Great snowshoe hike. To catch it clockwise you have to have sharp eyes at the beginning of the trail. Turn left at a small Hill where you'll see tracks. Otherwise you're taking the more difficult counterclockwise route. Took us three hours at an easy pace on the steeper route.

as 11/25/17 trail ends at 4 miles (9400 feet)
the first half is very icy...where studs and bring poles!
