Wonderful hike in the winter with frozen falls!

The best hike I’ve ever done!

We are from Minnesota and have never experienced anything like this hike before. The views are gorgeous and the water at the peak from the waterfall was breathtakingly worth it!!!

Loved this trail. We went early on a week day and it wasn’t too busy. Make sure you bring cash or check to pay to get in. Short walk to the first waterfall and we went for another mile or so with our two little ones. There were some beautiful views! We loved it.

Great trail, beautiful Aspen forest, dip in the pool below the upper falls, but not for those who aren’t cardio fit. It’s a stairclimber for the first 3/4 Mile and a good 1.5 hours to the upper falls at moderate pace with a fairly level section around halfway. Lots of scrabble, so wear a good hiker for trek down.

Nice trail, with the river at the end of it. Lightly trafficked, especially given how busy the trailhead is. Lovely views of the falls and valley.

Soooo crowded-went around 10:30 on a Saturday so not surprising. Pretty hike with 2 waterfalls. The one at the top is big and really pretty!

Great trail. No bikes on a Thursday 10-2. Runs along the creek so you can hear running water through the hike!!

Easy walk from where I was staying to trail head. Encountered a few bikers but a good morning hike.

Mix of sandy, rocky, hilly and flat. Trail is narrow at times with heavy brush surrounding. Made it to 2nd falls. Took just over an hour each way. Some sun and some shade. Bring plenty of water. Can be challenging in places. Worth it to get to overlook.

Meh trail. Follows road the whole time.

I’d give it 5 but the first bit is quite busy - we went on a Sunday and everyone plus their mother was there. The second waterfall is glorious, and was much quieter. A quick swim in freezing water is just the tonic, and there are some beautiful views on the way down. Really easy to reach from Steamboat Springs too.

Be prepared for a workout! Hiking uphill almost the entire way to the top. Pretty rocky. The view is worth the hike to the top though! Just watch the trail carefully— it’s so rocky at the top, I took a wrong turn 3 times coming down; the trail is easy to use, especially since people have created a bunch of little cutoff trails to get some good views. The waterfalls are beautiful!

This was a beautiful, moderately trafficked trail with lots of flowers and berries. I went up thunderhead trail and true to its name, there was some thunder and rolling clouds. Beautiful views of steamboat below.

Amazing! Not an avid hiker and was able to navigate well. Bring water!!! Hiked to the second falls after turning back half way earlier in the week...so glad we went back! The views and scenery are so worth it! Will head for the lake next time!

Spent two hours meandering this trail with my toddler. It was perfect for him, 3 bridges which he could throw rocks and sticks off, mostly shaded and through forest, a place to dip feet in the steam. On an August Tuesday from 10-12pm we saw 1 biker only.

my first hike it was amazing but snow kept us from finding the lake at the top

Unexpected lake if you continue further than the beginning Ridge. Saw a deer at the beginning hopping through the meadow.

It’s an unmarked trail right next to a super busy trail. Parking lots were full for Fish Creek Falls, but we saw 6 people on this trail the whole time. It’s not too difficult, has a variety of sights and terrain. You see the abandoned mine near the end. My favorites were the view of the falls from the opposite valley wall, the aspen grove, and the finish line mountain stream. The water was low enough we could sit on boulders in the middle of the rushing waters and eat our lunch.

I’m glad to I know you are know a you better call him at sometime o

As others have said, beautiful hike with epic views and really convenient to Steamboat. We saw 3 full grown elk, countless wildflowers and the best views that CO has to offer. Ends up at a small quarry with stunning views, especially for those with no fear of ledges! Take your time and take it all in. Pack a lunch. Much more exposed to the sun than you might guess. Slightly downhill most of the way out so slightly uphill on the way back.

We hiked only to the second falls, so total it was about 6 miles round trip. Entirely up hill for the three miles in. This was definitely a good work out, and the reward is so worth it. After you pass the bridge, make sure to turn around a couple times, the view is amazing. Once we got to the falls, there were pools to swim in, and we even went under the water fall. The water sure does take your breathe away, it is very, very cold!

It was unbearably hot the day I ventured to Fish Creek Falls, so I didn’t make it but a quarter mile past the bridge and waterfall before I turned around and went back. The trail down to the waterfall is mostly shaded, and not too steep coming back up. I also walked a short ways down the overlook trail that leads to the top of the waterfall; different scenery and very pretty, but exposed to the sun so very hot. Some loose dirt and a little rocky in spots on the trail, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. Chipmunks, ground squirrels, anglewing butterflies, birds, and very pretty wildflowers were all out in mid July. Very nice, short hike with lots of changing scenery to see: waterfall, aspen groves, conifers, small meadows, rocky cliffsides (overlook trail), surrounding mountains. Went on a weekday late afternoon / early evening, and there was moderate traffic.

Nice trail with only one drawback — loose dogs and lots of poo on trail. Many dogs off leash in the first mile. Most trail users on the early weekday I went were MTB’rs but plenty of room to get out of their way.

Was a beautiful evening to hike and was fun for my whole family! Was easy to access beautiful views of the falls without having to hike too long.

Great trail for new hikers. My family loves hiking, but we don’t go often and we are definitely not very good. This trail was super easy. There is an off leash dog area where my boys got to pet and play with several friendly dogs. A great pond for dogs to swim. A little further is a second pond we walked around and threw rocks. The trail goes on for a long ways but we just went to the second pond and came back. Perfect for 5 and 6 year old new hikers.

Windy Ridge is a beautiful, easy trail that is great for people of all ages! We saw some groups but hiked alone almost the entire time. The view of rabbit ears and the surrounding lakes are really spectacular from the top of the quarry. As mentioned below, definitely bring bug spray and sunscreen (the ridge is completely open with no coverage)! I would likely avoid after a heavy rain, as it may be pretty muddy.

Had an amazing time today hiking the upper Fish Creek Falls!! Completely worth it! It’s rated difficult and that was fairly accurate for a few portions, (although that rating seems a little strong for the trail overall). I saw several people hiking without a water bottle and that isn’t wise at all, especially on a day as hot as today was.

Picked a good time to go in the afternoon. No storms, plenty of parking, and few people. Good workout and great views. We went on a pretty warm day. Seeing the pools under the waterfall made ya want to try to jump in.

Nice trail. Mostly uphill on the way out but numerous level patches to ease the walk. Good mix of sun and shade for the hot July noonday we walked this on. LOTS of flowers and berries (not yet ripe in early July) and a riot of trees. We only saw wrens and woodpeckers, but heard many other birds. A smattering of exposed geology to admire. This seemed definitely to be a favored trail bike route - we were the only hikers but were overtaken by 7-8 individual riders - so you want to keep an eye out in front and behind. All the riders we saw were in control and courteous.
