Bit muddy, Saw beaver dams and beaver teeth marks on felled trees. Ended with some confusion with construction, but found our way back through the mall.

Easy and beautiful

If you take the loop, the South side of trail passes through the ski area where there is work being done. As a result you have to make your own way around the machinery. The trail is picked up on a gravel access way which is not particularly scenic. If you take the nature trail from the lot and work your way east and north, the trail is very nice for half the loop.

Great short hike in Snowmass. Lots of variety of foliage and great views from the top of the sleigh ride trail back to village. You can see a natural occurrence between the pine and aspen trees here that’s super cool. It’s known that they compete for sunlight as they reach for the sun and grow together.

Great little trail to help acclimate to the altitude. Beautiful wildflowers, beaver dams, aspen groves, and Mountain Views.

This is an okay trail. Not a lot of coverage and A LOT of mountain bikers with blind turns and a narrow path.

Easy and fun trail for kids. We went in early June and it was very green and lots of wild flowers. Also saw two beaver dams along the way!

Very pleasantly surprised by this trail!! Staying at Westin Snowmass and just wanted a quick hike with my wife and 4-year old daughter before dinner. This trail was absolutely beautiful in late September with yellow Aspens and even an abandoned log cabin!!

Start out early to minimize traffic that develops by mid morning. Heart rate increase at the beginning and also on the return - if you walk the complete trail. Powering through on the return made for an awesome hike!

Parking is limited so arrive as early as you can. It's a moderate hike with a gorgeous scenic view at the top. The well-known yin yang is at the top of this trail. Great picnic spot!

Parking can be tricky. Very easy trail to hike, but a good challenge if mountain biking. Popular trail - lots of traffic. Great views of the Snowmass Wilderness peaks from the summit.

Great workout rewarded by great views. I mountain biked starting with the South rim trail, quite strenuous even in 1st gear. Once to the rim it levels out and becomes a fun downward descent. Very narrow trail throughout. Single file only.

Rim Trail consists of two segments, South Rim Trail and North Rim Trail. You can access the trail from either end and walk to the other end. The shuttle/bus service in Snowmass Village can ease the task of getting back to your car at the other end. Either end starts with a climb to the "rim" (about 800-900ft depending upon which end) and then you proceed along the rim (ups and downs) to the other end. Views are spectacular, with Snowmass Mtn Ski resort filling the foreground, and Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands and Aspen Mountain ski slopes on successive ridges beyond Snowmass. There are also 360 degree sweeping views of nearby Mt. Daly (13,297), Sopris (12,965ft), Capitol Peak (14,137ft), and Highland Peak (12,382). The skier famous Highland Bowl (double diamond expert descent from the peak) is on the far side of Highland Peak, which is a hike accessible peak at the top of the Aspen Highlands. Sinclair Rd. intersects the Rim trail in the middle with the South Rim trail to the south (left side of the road going up) and the North Rim trail to the right. Technically parking is not permitted on the road at this point, though few encounter problems. There is no shuttle service to this point so a two vehicle strategy is needed if your going to leave a vehicle there. If you start at this midpoint, you avoid the steep climbs at either end of the Rim trail, and of course only hike about 1/2 the distance. Running along the ridge line, your quite exposed to the sun, so sun screen is a must on a sunny day, and the apparent temperature can seem a great deal warmer than the low to mid 70's which are the typical high temperatures in the summer. You definitely do not want to be on this ridge line in a thunder storm. There is no place to take shelter till it passes, and the only descents are at the ends of the trail and the Sinclair Rd mid point. Worst case you could be running along a ridge line for 3 miles to safety, trying to avoid sky to earth lightening strikes. The trail is popular with mountain bikers, but they seem well behaved and I've not had a problem with them passing. Its quite a nice mountain bike touring trail.

The trail was great. Beautiful views of Snowmass Village. Ran into many mountain bikers. Very few hikers. Take lots of water and snacks. Trail seemed much longer then the 6.2 mile. Start early to enjoy the sun and views.
