Great, dry trail w/ all-around views. Took us 2:25 with only a stop at the halfway mark.

We walked to the trailhead from the Westin. It was peak season for fall colors and the trees were gorgeous. One trail that intersected with South Rim is closed due to a rockslide. We turned back when we got to the backhoe. Our real goal was to hike to the yin yank and the Westin concierge gave us incorrect directions. A local suggested we turn back instead of continuing. All in all, a very nicely maintained trail. We loved it.

Muddy in spots due to the 6” snowfall Thursday AM. The trail is closed for Restoration at about 2.5 miles from the Divide Rd trail head.

Great hike, beautiful views especially right now with the changing leaves everywhere! Ditch is really easy, so I recommend going up campground, then to Government then Ditch to finish for the most moderate level hike as a whole. Ditch is busy, but Campground Connect and Government are the perfect quiet, low traffic hike!

This is a single track trail mostly for mountain bikers. I didn’t see anyone else on foot. There is parking at the base and no restrooms. It’s an easy quick trail, with turn offs to hike into the cemetery or see the peaks from. There is little shade cover and I would NOT recommend this trail on a hot day. Too dusty and no shade.

Overall a nice in-and-out route for a single night backpacking trip. We did not complete the 14er but stopped at the lake and camped out there (a common place with lots of nice camping sites). Knocking a star because a) a lot of horse poop the first half of the trail, 2) still a lot of avalanche debris (but most has been moved aside as to not block the trail)— there’s just one section 6.5 miles in (see photo) where you have to cross the river over the debris/fallen trees/logs. Don’t make the mistake we made and keep following some trails without crossing the river at that spot because it gets really sketchy and impassable and we had to turn back and ultimately cross over those logs. After this spot it’s smooth sailing and worth it! Definitely gorgeous views of the mountains with wildflowers and waterfalls that go the majority of the way. Great spots to fill your water bottle filters with crystal clear water from the lake. Parking in the main Snowmass trailhead lot was a breeze even at 11 am on labor day weekend.

Made it about halfway through and part of the trail was closed due to construction

With David. At the intersection is Snowmass Trail in government Trail West, I took the latter but ended up going way too far above the campground parking lot so David drove to get me at the top of upper carriage Way

With Devon. Parked on Divide Road, finished by walking down Sinclair Road and taking bus back to Village Mall

trail is washed out and fenced off and closed

This was an out and back hike. I lost GPS signal at the bottom of Buckskin Pass but went to Willow Pass and back. Beautiful views every place we went. Log Jam about 6.3 miles into the hike on Maroon-Snowmass trail (#1975) which covered log bridge crossing but was passable by scrambling over logs to other side of river. Don't forget the bug spray for Snowmass Lake.

Great trail. Great views. Pretty good uphill battle once you get to Government but all in all great hike.

Hiked up to Snowmass Lake 7/27 to 7/28. We arrived around 9am on Saturday and found a spot in the lot, though it was mostly full and not too big. The trail was incredible and was mostly shaded. The final destination was gorgeous, the lake was stunning and the water was so clear. Tons of places to camp along the way and near the lake. The log crossing near mile 6 was a little sketchy with overnight packs on and after rain, but if you go super slow it is doable. Don't forget bug spray, the mosquitos were out in force, or your bear canister, they are required to overnight.

Lots of wildflowers, great vistas. Partially through ski trails. Switchbacks make it less strenuous. Looks like great mountain biking on the shared trail.

I would do part of this trail again. Once you get past your first views of the Aspen valley, the rest is not much different and certainly not worth the exposure you will get to the sun if you go during summer months, even in the morning. This is more of a bike trail and the powdery fine dust that coats the trail makes it difficult on the turns of the downhill parts not to lose your balance. Once you get to the far side of the rim and have made your way most of the way down, the trail becomes narrow with considerable exposure over an ugly gravelly side of the hill.

Trail completed on 7/20. decent size creek crossing on logs from avalanche debris just after mile 6, not difficult if you take your time. Trail was harder than anticipated with backpacking pack, but final destination is 100% worth it and the camping area is perfect.

The very last section is washed out, so you have to take another trail and then connect to the street. It’s about a big deal, but just good to know. Very pretty and lots of wildflowers.

Heads up that Maroon Snowmass trail right near Crater Lake is impassable, blocked by avalanche damage.

Loved this trail. Aspen groves, Pine forests, river, great views. Bridge is out at the end of the Ditch. Government is a strong uphill... but worth it. Village Bound was back and forth a little more than I liked for mountain bikers, but still ok. Somebody spotted a bear just off Village Bound on the return. Here’s my map on COTREX: Snowmass Ditch, Government, Village Bound https://trails.colorado.gov/@tomelenbaas/trips/3561
