Amazing birthday hike. At the beginning parked in parking lot across river so had to wade to get to the trailhead. Not a moderate hike due to technical area thru boulders.. Invigorating swim at the lake!

Good hike. Probably a bit spoiled by other hikes in the area. Not as spectacular as Ice Lakes, for example, but still pretty scenic. Nice waterfalls & lakes.

Beautiful sweeping views. The lake is great for fishing and camping. I might rate this a bit harder than moderate especially if you are carrying an overnight backpack. The first lake looks like an infinity pool from heaven. BE WARNED: the road to the trailhead is very rocky and uneven, not for the faint of heart. 4WD and/or SUV is highly recommended although I saw a few sedans that made it up somehow.

Beautiful lake to camp out at. It’s a very easy hike to get to. BE WARNED: the road to get to the trailhead is extremely rocky and uneven. You will need 4WD and probably an SUV. Also the trailhead is not marked. Other than that it’s a easy hike and good spot to camp.

Easy driving trail. Several places to pass. Maybe one moderate area near top but nothing crazy. I like doing this trail in the evening, great sunsets make for amazing pictures.

I hiked this trail on a Thursday afternoon. Only saw a few people on the trail and got to spend a half hour at the lake all by myself. So peaceful and beautiful. The road to the trail head is very rocky and rough. I actually wanted to turn around a couple times coming in due to bottoming out my suv, but glad I didn't!

PARTIAL REVIEW. Attempted 2 weeks ago alone. My sedan only made it 1.5 miles up the ROUGH ROAD everyone warns about. It got riskier than I was willing to dare. I started up the FSR on foot and within 1/4 mile met a couple warning me there was a bear just yards off the trail in a thicket. The rain predicted was starting earlier than expected, and that combined with the ominous thunder was enough to put the fear-of-lightning in me.

Planning on returning and giving a much better rating!

ATTEMPT #2 was made 8.7.18
Road is truly horrid unless you can clear more than 8 inches undercarriage. Seriously people—it’s built for super duty trucks and hearty forerunners. Made it .6 miles to trail head this time. Set out 4pm. Trail is pleasant and is truly 10 degrees cooler than in Durango. Husband gave a hearty thumbs down because of how rocky it is. (I’m okay with rocky). What I’m not okay with is how slow my 6 year old creeped upon the rocky trail. We made it half way to lake before bailing because of time and a dispirited party.

I promised I’m only coming back with some other party and some big-a** vehicle. We played on the rocks at the Lily Pond and watched some Canada geese before loping back down menacing road.

Husband prayed to see a bear once we were safely back in car. Prayer was answered in 12 minutes time at end of trail where ^^goodness^^ there’s a big ole canyon that drops 150 feet away from the unaware bypasser at the start of Old Lime Creek Road. It was a beautiful, large black bear scampering around the backside of what looked like water treatment ponds across the 80 yard chasm. Safe distance!

This experience gets a 2.5 star rating. Third try may be a charm.

Cruises up the first chunk to the bathrooms. Amazing views, not too crowded. All types of vehicles including a mountain biker crushing it uphill. Understandable why this is a popular trail. Continued to California Gulch onto animus forks. It got pretty busy after that.

A good easy hike but definitely not the best in the area. There are some dispersed campsites around the lake. Quite a few people there on a Tuesday, including some people blasting music on the trail (please don't be those people). My Subaru did fine on the road in but I wouldn't bring a sedan down there.

Jeeped to the top. Narrow in places Parked and hiked to the lake. Nice hike, little heart pumping for sea level folks. Loved it will do it again.

Be forewarned that the road to this trail is not paved for sometime if you are coming from Silverton; maybe 30 minutes plus going 5-15 mph over rocky terrain. As you approach the trail head there is a small parking area at the bottom about .5 miles from the head, this is where we parked because the road up to the trail head seemed a bit tough. If you have a proper suv or awd lifted car, it should be fine, if not, it might be a tough climb up for an inexperienced driver. Weather conditions were constantly changing in late July as well, with 10 degree temp swings with rain/thunder. Beautiful hike.

Drove most of Trail in high range. Climbed during rain, so used low range to negotiate some rocky areas. There are two lakes, and the trail ends at the second lake. Map shows it going past, but map is wrong. Abandon mine about 2/3 up, entrance blocked with boulders.

Easy access from Silverton. First half trail steep, but maintained. Last third narrow and more loose rocks and washes. Closed mine at end and two spurs braking off. Left toward summit, caution loose rocks, narrow and some debris piles. Watch for others too narrow to pass by. Right to another mine. Again narrow, loose rocks and debris with off camber approach leaving Jeep toward ledge. Drove up and down in 4 low. Overall moderate trail, rain or snow would make it very hard.

Only ran a partial way up, late afternoon and not enough time to do it all. Ran 2 wheel drive, high clearance is needed breathtaking views and saw about a dozen other vehicles.

great trail with a couple of waterfalls and an amazing lake at almost 12000 feet.

Great jeep trail with awesome views. The trail is fairly easy with a high clearance vehicle. 4x4 recommended - though I saw a Subaru Outback and a Toyota Rav 4 on the trail. Many rough spots, semi-wide switch backs. Of course the views are what make this trail incredible and Clear Lake is a beautiful spot to relax and meditate, hike around, and take some wild flower photos. Very serene!

Amazing hike for a family. My 4-year old and 11-year old had no problem with the round -trip hike. We went swimming and I caught a brook trout on my tenkara rod. Don't be scared off by the warnings about the rocky road. We made it in our Subaru, and we saw a compact car that made it within 400 yards. The weather was 15 degrees cooler than in Durango. Just go.

Hiked to the first three lakes. Gorgeous scenery. The weather was a little iffy on the hike because the monsoon season hit, thankful for it as the fire danger was high in the area. People were fishing. Camping along the trail. Every view was amazing.

Hiked up July 8, 2018. Easy trail, Beautiful views. The road to the Trail head is a little rocky. Cars will have a bit of a problem. We have an SUV and we made it no problem. Wife and I hiked up, enjoyed the views, circled the lake, and came back. Nice.

The drive and scenery to the trailhead is just as good as the hike. A lot of waterfalls off the sides of the mountains. We started the hike and stayed on the trail for the most part, until we arrived at the rock slide area. We saw the trail on the other side, but had no way to get to the trail. We ended up rock hopping over to the trail. Made it to Lake Mary and the dogs swam for a bit. Found another way around the rock slide area and made it out of there. It is a very scenic hike with the stream. The higher you go, the better the scenery is. Highly recommended. Lots of loose rocks on trail, first hike I did with new boots. Tripped a few times or maybe just getting too old. Yeah, it was the boots.

Great hike with amazing views of several waterfalls. Pretty strenuous as it was a steady incline almost the entire way.

Awesome hike and perfect weather. Multiple waterfalls along the way. Great views the entire way up.
