Nice mix of easy to moderate hiking. Jeffco Open Space maps estimate this to be 7.7, rather than 8, miles long.

Snow is packed down on the north sides of hills and in the valleys. The sun-exposed south sides and ridges are completely dry.

The views are great, but of the 100s of hikes I've done in Colorado this is my least favorite. You are hiking up a really steep road for half of the hike. I would not recommend it unless you're looking for a workout and just want something near golden.

A good, moderate hike to warm up after just getting into Denver from sea level.

climb up is a work out, after that though
it's easy cruising

I've done this trail at least three times. just finished a quick hike today. I've trained on this trail for backpacking trips. view today was 100 miles but cold cold blustery wind at top. I was happy to spot grays and torreys from windy peak.

Beautiful views, varied landscape, good workout.

Kinda crazy! Love the restroom facility at the trailhead :). The first almost mile is steep up! Trails are awesome with a gravel dirt base and main trails wide. On top it appeared the majority of trails are flat with few inclines. Everything clearly marked and wide open with beautiful views of the mountains and the city!

We made the “mistake” of wearing our hiking gear and backpacks as we do at home in the Adirondacks. Athletic sneakers would’ve been fine. Since it is open field the wind can get you at any time. As it got me.

The hike up to Lichen Peak was easy compared to the “hike” in! The climb clearly marked with stone steps. Great place to hang for a bit. We decided to also do the North Table Top loop as it was there and quick. After that we started to do Golden Cliff Trail. We ran into a few deer grazing not even half mile in on the left side of the trail on the hill. We turned around and headed back. Walk down is hard on the knees. Quite a few people with dogs on (and some off—well behaved!) leash. Everyone nice and respectful. Would totally do this again!

Steep incline. Great landscape up top, kind of otherworldly. Saw trail runners doing repeats on the incline, but I'd say once is enough for most people.

Did these trials today with two pups. They are nice trials with good views. Make sure you are watching signs as we missed the last one to Sawmill and had a much longer hike! It was pretty but we are beat! There is no water on the trail so make sure and pack enough for your pup too, especially on warm days. We saw several mountain bikers and most were friendly and courteous. Enjoy!

Awesome trail, great workout.

That first half mile or so is a doozy, pretty steep and will leave you decently winded if you just flew in from sea level the day before. Once you get to the top it's beautiful and well worth the effort.

Great day on a well maintained and well marked trail. The Aspens were just about at the end of their colors but the we’re still a few out there.

There is hardly any shade, so make sure you have plenty of water and sunscreen.

This is the first time we took this direction to Windy Peak. We usually leave from Nott Creek TH but there was a trail race and the parking lot was packed. Burro up to Windy Peak is a steady climb with some nice view throughout. Windy Peak never disappoints. Very crowded today with the trail run and lots of people looking at the turning leaves. Generally this one is pretty quiet.

No shade, super steep, lots of rattlesnakes. If you’re a rock climber you know this trail is a means to an end, not a fun time in and of itself.

Great trail! Gorgeous views throughout the hike and super rewarding at the top of windy peak. My Garmin said we did about 8.5 miles so bring lots of food and water! The incline was gradual and we only had to stop a few times on the steeper parts. We brought two dogs and they had a blast the whole time!

Great hike, being from Ohio the views were spectacular and the elevation change was challenging. Trail was well marked and maintained. Saw lots of chipmunks. Very rewarding view atop Windy Peak which was only a mile or so up from Burro trail. Bring plenty of water. Was busy when we hiked saw quite a few people starting on a Sunday late morning/afternoon.

great hike up to an old historic cabin with a lake.

Nice trail with some nice views for it only being 10 minutes from my house. Initial incline is a good challenge but once you are at the top it’s flat and easy. Good workout

This was a quick hike close to the city. Very steep initial hike, then it flattens out a bit. Arrived around 9am and the parking lot wasn’t full yet. Views were ok for an urban sort of hike.

One of my favorite nearby hikes! Easy to get to and not very crowded. Watch for snakes if you bring your dog (and keep them on leash, obviously).

Awesome views. Look out for snakes.

Awesome hike with lots to see! Bridge Creek was completely dry while we were there. The trail is steep in some sections, with some loose rock. Watch your footing on the way back down. Got to the summit of Windy Peak, just in time to watch the clouds move in, and cover the entire valley. The meadow section of the trail is full of wildflowers right now. We hiked on a Wednesday and only saw 2 other groups. Will probably do this again as an overnight, and stay at one of the backcountry camp sites along Mountain Lion Trail.

What a great trail! I did a solo hike with my two dogs and I was totally amazed with how clear the trail was for a Saturday morning. We started our hike around 945 and maybe saw three other groups on the way up but 98% of our hike was alone. If you are looking for the weekend, definitely go early if you want to avoid crowds! On our way down we probably saw 15 groups going up around noon. Despite that, this is a gorgeous trail with a lot of diverse scenery. It was nice to have a versatile change of up and downhill on the way up and down. About the seven dollar fee… Make sure that you pay that at Nott Hill about 2-3 mins before you get to the trailhead. I made that mistake and had to drive back. Have fun!!

trail is fairly bland, but it's up the side of a lovely plateau with great views and neat features to explore at the top.

Very nice trail system that is well-marked. There’s a decent amount of climbing but well worth the views at the top. Beautiful wildflowers, butterflies. Saw numerous chipmunks, and a few deer. I hit the trail around 0730 and there were only a handful of cars in the lot. As others have said, don’t forget the $7 fee!

This trail is a nice relaxing hike/stroll. Perfect in the evening took us an hour and we did the walk up to the peak. Saw some wildlife too

Bring $7 cash with you there’s a drop box about a mile before the parking lot on the left. The hike was beautiful, changing scenery and enough shade to keep you cool. Going clockwise and following Burro trail, it starts easy and has a steady incline, if you keep pushing through the steeper parts you’ll get rewarded with a shady flat path to catch your breathe as you keep on truckin’...Took me an hour and 30 mins to get to the top of windy peak at a steady rate, no breaks. Took me about the same to get down since I rolled my ankle on some loose gravel on the way down so be more careful than me! Lots of butterflies in the meadows, didn’t see any animals but at the very end I saw a cool looking snake. Not a rattle but still a snake. Only ran into 4 people the whole hike!!!

Beautiful hike to Windy Peak. Bring lots of water - limited shade covering in parts and incline can take a toll. Park office on the way to the trail head where you can purchase a day or year pass. Shade and picnic tables near the parking. The drive in past Golden to the park is absolutely gorgeous. ~10 miles of newly paved road for an incredibly smooth climb up.

Did about 4 miles of this this morning with a friend. Lots of mountain bikers out. Seems like a great trail. Loved the views. We plan on going back to complete the whole loop. My friend who I was with had family coming over for her sons bday party though so we had to only do what we could in the time we had.
