Great easy road. Great views.

Awesome trail that gets maybe a half dozen groups hiking it per day MAX versus multiple dozens of groups on blue lakes trail per day. The parking lot was jam packed when we arrived, but we found a parking spot. The first 2 miles are downright easy, a kid could do it. The last mile is a little more strenuous and I do recommend a pole or two for the descent unless you enjoy a good rock dance. We got to the basin and only saw one other group of people with a couple dogs. The panoramic views are astounding. All trails map ends at the basin, but the trail does go further up and has more switchbacks that take you much further above the basin. Took us 4 hours and 10 minutes from the parking lot and we took a 40 minute lunch up top and a few short breaks on the way up. Awesome hike and definitely recommended if you want to get away from the plethora of people. Sure it doesn’t have a lake, but it has waterfalls, awesome views of Sneffels and a river beside you half the hike; plus no people saying “behind you” or “passing” every ten minutes. Once you get to the basin, take a left and follow the waterfalls up a hidden trail just past the little campground. I would venture as far as to say this is basically a hidden gem of a hiking trail in these parts.

Very beautiful hike. Slight elevation upgrade had a friend from the west coast that went up with a few stops. The last mile was definitely a lil killer. Hiked 7/30/18

Beautiful hike! The last mile is the steepest part of the hike and the reward at the top is a bit of heaven on earth

Awesome trail and vistas!! The last 100 yards or so... a real bummer, rocky and steep.

Did this AFTER blue lake so we were already pretty dang sore. Plus the end is not a gorgeous lake...it is a beautiful valley but still not the same. Not as many people so it’s worth it

Beautiful! Hiked today (7/6/18) and the wildflowers were in full bloom. Absolutely gorgeous being in the basin with three waterfalls, flowers, and looking up at Sneffels. Same trailhead as blue lakes, which was absolutely packed. There were two pages filled up with people going to blue lakes. Only about 6 groups for Blaine Basin. It was super quiet for the most part. Definitely would hike this one again.

I have hiked the Dallas Trail several times, and always left out from the Blue Lakes trail head and hiked up to Wilson's Creek summit, and bypassing the Blaine Basin. I've been missing out. It's a beautiful spot, and while the climb is a bit tough for some folks, the effort is worth it. In June, plenty of water to be found up there.

My smart phone & smart watch stated 3.8 miles round trip in almost exactly 4 hours (4h, 37 total with breaks). I made it ALMOST to the top. Had to stop just after getting into the “rocks only” section due to my heavier hiking boots. I should of dropped my pack and it probably would have been fine. If I do it again, I’ll do that or bring lighter, more deft shoes for that small section.

Quite difficult but amazing trail. Road to trailhead can be bumpy and a little treacherous but we made due with a 2WD vehicle. Some definite rock scrambling, but the views were breathtaking.

Solitude, some gains and some spectacular views! The creek crossing was more than manageable but definitely taking boots off and putting on sandals (tevas, keens, etc.) will be necessary. Didn’t need any extensive gear other than the change of shoes. Last mile up to the basin is the most challenging and WELL WORTH the views.

Definitely worth hiking to the top, throughout the hike is mainly forest but once you get to the top there’s a creek and a lot of wild flowers and a good view of the mountains.

Great mountain biking trail system. It can be hiked but is designed for biking so be careful. These were well designed and allow for some great descents. Lots of cactus so be prepared to repair flats.

Great walk, paved trail. I do this almost daily with the wife and dog.

Great for mountain biking. Can link together several trails for a fun loop

Trails interconnect with one another. Gets kind of confusing but it’s a blast.

Love this mountain range! Beautiful views and so peaceful. We saw a handful of people on the trail which gave this hike a 5 star for solitude. A recommendation is trekking poles. It had rained the night before and left the trail very muddy and slippery. With the steep incline it made it a more difficult hike. Note to dog owners keep them leashed please. Every person we saw with a dog didn't have a leash. This trail has many steep drop offs and blind corners. One dog surprised us on a corner and scared us and him and became aggressive and lunged towards us before the owner could even get his hands on him.

Super fun and easy hike! Lots to look at! Went in early July all the wild flowers were out. Lots of places to camp at the top. Good for kids and dogs. Campfires are allowed.

Loved that my kiddo easily tackled this one. And, that with what felt like 100 cars parked on the road for Independence Day, Blaine Basin was relatively open with far fewer people than Blue Lakes.

Was a great hike and the trail is now totally free of snow and the wildflowers are out. Loved hiking along the creek and then seeing the waterfall on the way up. The last .07 miles is steep and rocky but well worth it! View is spectacular, the little waterfall up there in the basin meadow is great and everything is green with the flowers just coming out now.

2016 review... we went up here in September as we live in Ridgway. It was beautiful! This is the same trailhead as lower blue lakes except this trail splits left and immediately crosses a bridge. This hike is relatively easy compared to most in the area. There is 1 creek crossing that is a bit challenging during meltoff but hiking poles will keep you steady. Good chance of getting wet feet too because the water was high even late in the year. Tevas. The hardest part of this hike is the last .5 mile- pretty much straight up. You arrive to an open meadow with beautiful river and waterfall views. Also, it puts you a couple thousand feet below Mt. Sneffels which is a great lunch view. We had the trail all to ourselves which is just the way we like it.

We had amazing views. There was still quite a bit of snow which made the last part of the trail a little tricky. Well worth the view! Would like to go back later in the summer when the snow melts more. First river crossing needs very sure footing until the creek slows down. Beautiful views of Sneffles.
