Nice short hike over packed snow. Watched a cow and calf moose wade the edge of the lake about 150 yds away while we ate some lunch.

Starts out as nice easy ride, but does get very difficult with large boulders and narrow rocky climbs!

6.5 hours, 15 miles round trip. Came up on a moose and a bear in the first mile, and another moose on the way down about mile 10. My pace was slowed by frequently stopping to peek around corners because I'm a scaredy cat and was hiking alone. But even with that, I managed 3.5 hours up, 3 hours down. I stopped for lunch at Island lake, which was very windy but beautiful. No snow, little mud, few fell trees. I only saw 5 people the whole time, and no one up at the lake. Gorgeous right now because the leaves are changing.

Short hike but if u move quickly it is a good workout. Lake was quiet, no wildlife making an intro.

Pretty like hike up and old road off the main scenic drive. We stopped on our way to Walden. Saw a moose at the TH on the way back. Porta potty and plenty of parking

amazing..loves all tge water crossing. we got rain and hail but it was shaded and cool enough, not many people. we were only ones at Island Lake. closer to 14 mi. wildflowers were kicking

I did this the last week of June. The snow is all gone! I'd recommend waterproof boots as you'll have 2 river crossings as well as a couple streams. Also, every now and then you'll run into mud. The trail is mellow for awhile, then you hit the last stretch to the top and that'll be a tough ascent (going to island lake). One last thing, there is a fire ban in effect so double check if it's still in place before you go out!

The sign at the trailhead says it's a 14.2 mile trip

Went up Saturday morning with my sons (12 & 13) and made it to the lakes late afternoon. There was a lot of snow, water and mud on the last mile. The few groups we saw on the way up camped in the meadow before the last steep part to the lake. We decided to go for it and camp in a wide open grassy area right by the lake in spite of the wind gusts and cold. It was incredibly beautiful and peaceful. We ended up having rain all night and several thunderstorms but we were warm and dry. This is a fairly hard hike with packs but well worth it. The last 1.5 miles is stunning...breathtaking...there aren’t words.

Beautiful trail, I'd like to come back and do an overnight stay.

Went 3/9/18, day was cool & cloudy with little wind. Trail snowpacked mostly and crusty but doable in snowshoes. Did lake loop and came back. Great scenery and enjoyable. Tom

No one on the trail! Deep deep snow. It was a quick hike but gorgeous. Oh and a bunch of powdery goodness.

I got here early and was the only person on the hill all morning. Still a few feet of snow on the ground so the snowshoeing was really good.

Beautiful hike, but a bit short.

This was the start of a 3 day back pack trip. Love this place. Highly recommend it.

Great trail! Went up through the original start of the trail in my JKU, trail is a little narrow in spots. Full size trucks won't make it all the way. Need a lifted vehicle for sure.

Hiked this after north diamond peak. Fire Road type trail to the lake

Saturday, July 01, 2017

it's a road, it's all uphill the lake itself is man made and small you can circumvent the whole thing, the side facing the road has great mountain views. Was chased by a moose here.

Hiked this trail over the weekend in our first snowshoeing experience. Parking lot was almost full when we pulled in. Saw a mixture of snowshoers and skiers during our couple of hours. FYI, the trail was not near as packed around the actual lake. All told, it took us a couple of hours to do the full trail.

Good place to start backpacking. Allows you to reach other pearls such as iron mountain if you want to stay out for a while. There's also a beautiful plateau you can reach for a day hike. Gorgeous views.

Perfect weather and snow conditions today! I took my wife out for her very first snowshoe trip and she loved it. It is steep enough to get the heart rate up a bit if you go fast, but not so steep to keep beginners from enjoying the trip.

We made it up in about an hour I think (lots of breaks for pictures), lunch + cocoa, back down in 40 minutes or so.

It was nice having two feet of fresh powder to cushion us the whole way!

Short hike to lake on path/service/logging trail? Great lake for fly fishing but not catching. Incline to lake.

Quick, almost straight up. Zimmerman Lake just suddenly appears. Saw a moose tromping through the water. Great views of the southern Rawahs.
