Great hike to Fancy Lake today-9/19/18. We didn’t start til noon. Fairly easy climb. Lots of good switchbacks. Thank you trail groomers! This lake is stunningly beautiful! Next time we’ll hike on through to Missouri Lake.

This trail was so much fun on 09/17/18.
I think what made it so much fun was because I got lost on this mountain so many times . I didn't even mean to do this trail but somehow got on it. Get lost up there and have fun.

Great peaceful trail. Good cool down trail after Mt. Elbert.

Beautiful trail with breath taking views. Lots of color. The views from the meadow at the top were spectacular. Not very difficult at all. Nice, well marked trail. One of our favorites because of the views at the top.

A wonderful little hike up to a hilltop meadow. Didn’t see other hikers but passed a few mountain biking groups. Lovely rainbow of changing colors of the short underbrush shrubs. Beautiful mtn range views at the top of gore range, holy cross. Nice change from the standard & popular summit/14er hikes.

A lovely place to bring someone who has limited mobility or stamina. Beautiful view.

Great hike, starts with a steady incline through wooded areas. The last mile is downhill, with the last 1/4 mike as switchbacks with spectacular views before the creek/campsite.

The creek is great to rest and have a snack before tackling the switchbacks uphill for the return trip.

This trail was also longer than 4.3 miles - closer to 5.5 on our gps.

Continue down the other side of the pass toward Notch and scale for an amazing View of Mt. of the Holy Cross!

There is just one "Fancy Lake." The trail to it is about 2.6 miles with an elevation gain of 1,500 feet. (The contours on these maps are confusing because the contour interval is 10 meters (about 33 feet) whereas every fifth contour is labelled with the elevation in feet.) The first 1.5 mile passes through pine forest before some meadows with wildflowers start to appear. This part is moderately difficult.

The trail from the lake to Fancy Pass gains about 870 feet in 0.7 mile, of which the last half is especially steep and difficult. In particular, it is easy to miss where the trail jogs to the right, and climb up a natural rock chute that was used for dropping mine tailings to a lower elevation. The trail is difficult enough, but the mining chute still has loose tailings in it and is worse. It is hard to appreciate the scenery while focusing on your footing, but as others have said, the view from the pass -- particularly to the north down the valley of Cross Creek -- is spectacular.

Most people who get to Fancy Pass continue to Missouri Pass and return to the trailhead by way of the Missouri Lakes Trail, which starts at the same parking area. I think that that route has better alpine scenery with less extremely difficult trail conditions than the Fancy Pass Trail described here.

Very fun trail with a few challenges to make it exciting. There are a few big rocks to go over or squeeze by. We scraped once. Very narrow with lots of tree branches in places if you’re worried about scratches. We were on the trail for a couple hours before it started to get dark and we turned around. There’s a point when you get out of the creek and into more open areas with views. Looks like it would be a great place to have lunch or camp(if allowed).

Be careful of the soft shoulder in a few places where the water is running parallel to the trail. It is covered by vegetation and there is a big rock on trail that you have go around.

Lovely trail, switchbacks and woodsy with Fancy Lake and Notch Mountain greeting you at the top!

This was pretty strenuous for me compared to most non-14er Colorado hikes. The final stretch up the Fancy Pass side can take it out of you, but what a reward at the top. Definitely pair it with the Missouri Lakes trail to make the 8 mile loop. You get to walk along side beautiful lakes for 2 miles and it’s not harder at all on that side, just a bit longer.

Did the Fancy pass trail and finished the loop with Missouri lakes/pass. It is a fairly difficult hike with a pack but well worth it as the views and flowers are amazing. Also worth bringing a fishing rod as the brook trout up there are very beautiful. only thing is definitely bring bug spray as there are a good amount of mosquitoes around the lakes.

So wonderful that this accessible trail is here for those with special needs or who need assistance walking. Beautiful large deck, perfect to spend a day having a family outing and picnic.

Trail is in good condition. Dusty today. Good flowers; very little traffic on the trail; over forty vehicles at the trailhead and along the road.

I hiked the loop starting from Fancy Pass, to Fancy Lake, then up the pass to a valley, then up Missouri Pass, then down toward Missouri Lakes, ending at the Missouri Lakes trailhead. I believe it is a little over an 8 mile hike (felt longer).
The hike up to Fancy Pass is good with moderately steep climbs. Fancy Lake is beautiful.
After that, you'll head toward a stream crossing that seems like the wrong direction. After crossing, you'll make a sharp left and head up toward the pass.
The pass was still snow covered. You can stay far left and avoid most of the snow or stay near the path and just cross through the snow. The pass is where you really feel the elevation gain in terms of steepness and breathing.
At the top, the views are spectacular but the wind can knock you over (or take off your hat).
The valley below is covered in wildflowers. It is just stunning. The marmots and pikas are plentiful.
Then you head up Missouri Pass, a much shorter and friendlier climb. Again, at the top the views are stunning.
Heading down from the pass you travel past several lakes, then you return to what seems like a normal forested trail and head towards the Missouri lakes trailhead.
While anyone can do this, it has some parts that are not easy for all. To get up Fancy Pass, you need to be at some level of fitness.

Hiked up to the lake and camped. Elevation is no joke if you have Texas lungs. Views are spectacular all around the lake and both directions on the trail.

Funny the last review was 5 hours ago, and the previous was 2016. I checked this yesterday and decided to try, but just like Anna, I found the road closed. It's closed about 1 mile before the cross creek trailhead.

Trail is currently occupied entirely by very cold overflow stream, so we did Shrine Pass Road instead!

Be aware road doesn’t open until 6/21

Took the ATV to this area over the weekend. It was the perfect area for any offroad vehicle! However, there were 2 areas shortly after the gate where large rocks (about 1.5-2 ft in diameter fell on the center of the trail. We were able to sneak by on the ATV, but a regular sized vehicle would not be able to get past due to the narrowness around the rocks. Lots of trails in the area that we were able to explore. Wearymann Trail (which we orginally came to do) was completely overrun with a downhill stream. We took the ATV through the water (which was about 4 inches deep) to the first stream crossing (which was about 6-8 inches deep). We turned around because the water that overran the trail only looked to be getting deeper. Most of the trails in the area had snow remaining on them (between 30% coverage to 100% covered in snow). Will wait a little longer for the stream to die down and more snow to melt and then come back. :)

Awesome hike, we hiked from Holy Cross city to Fancy Pass and then to Missouri Pass, backpacked near Missouri Lakes. The passes we're still pretty snowy and pretty challenging at times. Having hiking poles and microspikes made this a lot more doable. Coming down Missouri pass we lost the trail under the snow and wound up going off trail at times to find a way down. The only additional thing I wish I'd brought is something to slide down on.

Done before and it's a fun trail, but currently the first creek crossing is above the top of my 29in front tires. Might need a week or 2 to calm down.

Lots of snow! We only made it 1 mile in. I'm sure it will be a great hike later on the season.

We started ascending to timberline lakes, but we didn't have the proper shoes for all the snow, so we turned around and continued through the Colorado trail on the north entrance ( by the continental divide trailhead entrance). Plenty of incline walking, with great views of the mountain river runoff and we were even able to see a few deer. We had to turn around due to rain, but it's definitely a new favorite!

Awesome trail to the lake. My friend and i decided to continue on and turn it into a 14er hike on the Missouri mountain and saw even greater views of the lakes
