We went snowshoeing Saturday 3/9 around noon. Passed about 6 people (some on their way to ice climb, snowshoers, a few people in microspikes) but were by ourselves the rest of the way. Snow was about 4 feet deep, powdery with some ice forming along the top, along the entire trail so snowshoes are a necessity. Explored off trail for a bit through beautiful forests and valleys with a few mountain goats!

Gorgeous as always, providing a great view of Ouray regardless of where you are on this trail. After visiting box canyon falls, continued on this up a little ways, and loved it so much I had to return.

Proposed to my now fiancée at the top of the trail, so in my opinion it’s the best trail out there.

Beautiful day with the frozen falls all to ourselves! The snow was deep but we were fine in boots without spikes. Can’t wait to come back in the summer

I went awhile ago, but it's a beautiful trail no matter the season. The locals and tourists are great people, and it has an amazing view of the surrounding mountains.

Very short but cool. Free in the winter and you can watch people ice climbing before/after visiting the falls.

Absolutely gorgeous hike! It was really snowy when I went, but the trails weren't too terrible with snowshoes. I would highly, highly, highly recommend this hike! It was one of the most stunning hikes. I brought my pup and she had a blast!

I'm a sucker for Colorado history, and this trail is an easy hike with lots of stories to tell. Every time I go back, I discover something else. :)

Fun and beautiful hike in the snow! Highly recommend Katoolas during winter. There can be quite a bit of ice and slippery, packed snow. A pair of light weight poles may be a comfort for the narrow sections. I especially liked the waterfalls, the tunnel just past Box Canon, and constantly changing terrain. Fun!

11/21/18 Snow pack and mud was present on a lot of the trail. More snow expected in the area today, so prepare accordingly. The first (and last) half mile is very steep, so you may want spikes. Definitely wear waterproof boots. Excellent views and the trail goes through old aspen groves that are amazing in October.

Gorgeous!! My mom has some trouble getting up the first section (she has bad hips and arthritis), but could still see the falls from afar.

Great hike with amazing views of the town below! Lots of trailheads, so it’s easy to get off whenever you need.

Great trip with my FJ. A couple of non4wheel drive vehicles were attempting it and were having a difficult time. Great views

Drove up on the east side after going up to Hurricane Pass. Very nice drive to do.

So much fun. First trail I took my Raptor on.

Beautiful trail but the beginning was not for people who are afraid of heights. I sadly have a fear of heights and found it very difficult. The part from the beautiful falls on was fantastic! I think it’s one of the prettiest hikes I’ve ever been on. We went in the summer.

Nice peaceful walk.

so rediculous that you must pay to hike. way better nature for free elsewhere.

Completed this hike on 10/6/18. Definitely a difficult, steep hike! We started at the upper cascade trail and completed the full hike in 3 hours (with plenty of stops for pictures and some time spend hanging out in the mine camp). Beautiful views of Ouray and surrounding mountains. I would highly recommend this trail if you’re looking for a great work out/shorter day hike.

Fun trail I guess. It would be better going up I think. There are a few tippy spots coming down, so don’t go too quick.

Wishing for more water for the waterfall, but still beautiful.

Beautiful with options to go farther by taking the connected ouray perimeter trail.

I did the Alpine Mine. Be prepared for the long, steady incline up, but you have views the entire way. Super cool to see the leftover mining equipment near the overlook. Bring a lunch and enjoy the vistas.

This trail is an unassuming adventure, with challenging elevation gains that are well spread apart. In addition to amazing views of Ourey and the surrounding peaks, this trail features many variations of terrain. Definitely worthwhile, but try to plan hiking this on a cooler day.
