Easy nice! Aspens are dead :(

Completed 10/11. Was able to drive to TH. Road conditions were icy. Trail is snow packed with several sections extremely icy. Wore trail shoes but would recommend microspikes if you are not comfortable on ice in those sections.

Lovely trail to hike in the snow! Definitely bring trax or spikes. It was cold but we warmed up after a while. Not too busy in the morning but the parking lot filled up in the afternoon when we returned. Make sure you see both lakes! They’re across from each other

Excellent hike! Beautiful scenery the whole way. Lots of ice and snow today so bring your spikes. Bathrooms at the trailhead are still open.

Beautiful views the whole way to the lake. A few icy patches to watch out for, and a fair amount of snow on the second half leading to the lake but nothing too bad. I didn’t have any spikes or sticks and had no problem. The creeks are mostly frozen with some cool icy waterfalls, and there’s still a little bit of fall color left but fading quick. The July 4th road is pretty rough from the lost lake trailhead, so as long as you have an SUV or truck you will be fine. Will definitely be back to go to Arapaho pass!

A difficult hike, but worth it.

Love hiking in the fall / winter in Colorado! Didn’t arrive to the trail head until noon and easily parked, probably only saw about 30 people on the trail, which is pretty good for this popular TH. Hard packed snow from most of the trail though there are some patches of ice / slush and some completely dry spots. You can easily make it to the lower lakes without a problem, the trail is visible and easy to follow (I was fine in regular hiking boots). However, the ascent to the upper lake was a bushwhacking scramble in ankle deep snow. I lost the trail several times and though ultimately made it to the upper lake, the trek took me about an hour. All and all, an absolutely gorgeous day! About 1.5 hours to lower lakes, 1 from lower to upper and about 1.15 from the lower lake back to the TH.

Trail has some snow cover but overall totally doable.

Completed Oct. 5: Amazing views and easy to follow. This trail is hard to beat. Saw a bunch of people running and hiking, and my group was backpacking. We found a spot just below the tree line that was out of the wind (which was rare) about 2 miles in, set up camp and did the rest of the hike up to the pass and the lake without our packs. Above the tree line there is hardly anywhere I would recommend for camping; the other option would be to go down the other side of the pass to Lake Caribou (not lake Dorothy). Definitely recommend this trail for anyone that wants to get a feeling for the Indian peaks!

Nice quick hike (30 mins each way) with a great payoff at the end at the beautiful the Gross Reservoir. I'd consider this an Easy hike with a brief rocky scramble at the end. Leaves changing as of October 8, and no waterfall during my visit. As others have said, when you approach the waterfall, scramble up and down over the rocks to the left to continue the trail into the reservoir.

Was expecting more for the Aspen Alley section. coming from Boulder, didn't feel it was worth the drive when there are other spots that are more fun/scenic within the same distance.

Completed 10-11-19. When you get to the trail, definitely go left so the lake is on your right hand side. Easy trail. Gorgeous views.

AMAZING hike. Completed 10.9.19. The weather was perfect - a slight breeze throughout the whole hike and not windy at the top. I started at 8:30AM and finished a little before 12:15PM with a few stops for photos. The last mile is definitely rocky but WOW the views are incredible. Ended the hike at Lake Dorothy — did not have time to further explore Arapahoe Pass. Huge shoutout to the hikers who made me feel less nervous about my first solo hike and who offered great advice and help if I needed it. Definitely will do again.

The Aspen leaves are blown away near the trail but there are still some beautiful Aspen groves to behold! Windy and Cold at the lake. We had on most of our layers throughout the hike. Fun trail! Will definitely come back next Spring/Summer.

Stunning views. Recommend taking the trail to Diamon Lake. Fall colors are a plus! Dog favorite. Watch out to take on the uneven dirt roads that lead to parking with a suitable vehicle.

Well, she said, "yes," and we had a lovely photoshoot by the lake afterwards. it was a perfect day. As for the hike, it was challenging enough (for us sea level visitors) without kicking our asses too bad. It was fun, beautiful, and a place I will return as soon as I'm able.

Incredible hike for people not used to high altitude because it’s hard but doable. Beautiful views (a great hike for peak aspen season!) and the lake at the top is a hidden treasure. Definitely recommend! It’s pretty windy and cold by the lake so bring layers! It had some great campsites too up by the lake. Lots of hikers and dogs!

Hiked this Sun Oct 6 — beautiful and chilly!

Great hike. Most of the Aspen’s have lost their leaves especially 2+ miles from the Hessie trailhead. We did the 15 mile loop counterclockwise as a day hike. Took us 8 hours with brief stops for snacks. Very windy up top but great views!

We went counter clockwise & had a hard time following the trail. There we quite a few mountain bikers, but they announced themselves & we quickly got out of the way. The whole trail is not covered in aspens, but there are sections of beautiful yellow groves! Enjoy the fall colors.

Nice hike to several lakes. We went with boys aged 8, 3 and 3. Took us about 2 hours RT (3.5 mi). Busy and beautiful October Sunday!

Easy to follow nicely shaded trail. Was a little chilly and windy by the lakes but otherwise great on Sunday when the temps were in the 20’s and 30’s. Wasn’t too busy in the am but lots of people later in the day. And puppies too!
