85 degrees mild weather but 70% shade helped me from overheat. I was going to give 5 stars but changed my mind to 4 because the map was messed up. There was no way to get on Flow Dog trail after I got on trail 715. I had to go around and use alternate trail but I made it back. Not crowded at all, maybe ran into 6 bikers and 5 hikers all total during my 3.5 hour hike. Beautiful wild flowers, I enjoyed the view so much. Have fun!

Great trail. Used the app map several times as there are a lot of side trails.

The trail offers gorgeous views however it has several problems: it is mostly exposed to the sun, very little shade along the way. We have two black dogs and one of them almost got heat stroke. It doesn’t help that dogs are not allowed to in the lakes. Also, the trail is not well marked. We got lucky because we were recording the hike within this app. At the very end there is a hard left that leads to the final climb to the top and end of the hike. Without following the trail on the app we could have missed it. It was beautiful, but pack a lot more water than you think you’ll need, especially if you have dogs.

I don’t know if I didn’t go far enough or wasn’t in the right place but followed the trail and the view at the top was not worth the effort. Also dogs can use this trail but can not go in the water. Not a good trail if you dog as sensitive feet. Very rocky with loose gravel.

this trail can lead to many different ones

The lion-share of this hike is an uphill service road. Pretty hard on two kids. The pay-off is gorgeous but I wish there was a more interesting, less drastic uphill, to get there. Will go again in the summer, using a different trail, to see the lake.

City trail system - very flat - also very well maintained.

The trail runs on a gravel road for most of the hike but then becomes a narrow trail towards the top. Along the trail there are Spruce, Fir, Pine, and Aspen trees and at the top you will get good views of the surrounding mountains and Palmer Lake. Trail 360 on YouTube

We did the entire trail until we got to the "balanced rock" at the top of rhe hill. We recorded a total of 7.5 miles for the loop. Beautiful hike

Quite beautiful this time of year!

found some wild raspberries

Good trails, easy terrain, poorly marked trail markers and a lot of unmarked sub trails

hiked this today, not "easy" as in an easy hike, but easy trail to walk on. it starts with all uphill for a little over a mile. Not a good first hike for newbs. Overall great hike with beautiful lakes and wildflowers.

Smells like piss the whole way and has real nice graffiti. Other than that it's real nice.

Nice long loop. Started at Mt Herman TH therefore 1st 3/4 of loop was well wooded and quite enjoyable. Walking up the road the final 1/4 was less so. Lots of crossing trails along the way so have a good map or follow all-trails track closely.

Gorgeous. Worth the Effort. Look for the Reservoir Trailhead, as it's not called Balanced Rock. The first mile is tough and steep. A great trail run.

Amazing trail but do be careful. Saw a momma and not so baby bear in the aspen grove across the bridge once you're south of the whole resevoir. timid browns that scattered quickly but keep an eye and ear out.

Hiked beginning of June. Great hike. Gem Lake is a great pit stop for a picnic

Great hike, although at times quite the incline that goes for a while. Pack water for the pups as they can't get in watershed ponds.

Several places to stop and picnic along the way as you make the hike up to Balance Rock. The road up after the 2nd gate is a bit rutted so make sure you watch your step. The view is worth it.

It is a good trail for running with a jogging stroller! Wide path. For this reason 4 stars.

Easy trail for riding with picturesque views. Day we rode was very windy, but still an enjoyable ride up the Santa Fe Trail to Palmer Lake.

Meh. This definitely should not be rated as moderate. This is a very easy trail, and I would categorize it more of a walk than a hike. The day I was there, it was snowing, so it was hard to see the scenery, but I didn't think this was anything special except perhaps the views of Elephant Rock. There are so many other nice trails that are more challenging and scenic in the area that I wouldn't choose this one again.

On a side note, one of the other things that turned me off about this trail was all of the dog excrement. I always have my dog with me, and have carried his poop for many miles to not leave it behind. If you are hiking with your dog, please keep him or her leashed and clean up!!

I'd say it leans toward easy.. a wide, well-kept path; nothing difficult about it. Great running path with great views.

Beautiful hike through the woods on White Ghost trail and around the mountain. I came down the mountain on Mt. Herman road which made the return trip a bit sketchy with cars going up. First half of the hike made it all worth it. My phone tracked 13.5 miles rather than the 8.9 that All Trails showed on the app.

Definitely farther than 9 miles. Fairly easy hike but you spend 3 miles walking on mt Herman rd which is fairly dangerous. I suggest (if there are 2 of you or more) parking one car at the lower parking lot and one car at the top lot (just before you go on the actual trail to skip this part and cut out the long, hot, uphill, dangerous gravel road walk.

Very nice trail and the lakes were great

NOT the trail for the rock formation pictured and almost a mile longer than it says. The trail past the reservoir is a jeep trail, and it gets confusing. Loved it though!

Took the puppy and four kids on this hike. (10,9,4 and 2-in a pack). We made it to the second lake before the crew was ready to head back. They were bummed they couldn't go in the water, but it's drinking water, so no people or dogs can go in. Other than that, fun hike, really pretty, with LOTS of people and dogs; but we won't go again because of the water limitations.
