A little confusing to find. When you get off the Rabbit Ear exit on WB rt 70, go left then stay straight on the dirt road past the camp grounds. We found an alternate route going through Mack. The trail itself was a Very nice balloon loop. We got on the trail around 9 which was great bc it was getting warm when we finished. Lots of little lizards (which were very distracting for our pup!). Great views!

One of my favorite hikes I’ve done and I’ve hiked all over Colorado! The views of the Colorado River and the canyons beyond were insane. I enjoyed seeing the La Sals from the top of the mesa. I will be recommending this to everyone visiting the western slope.

Great well maintained trail. Some beautiful color with wildflowers blooming along the way. Colorado River views were spectacular! Great hike with the hubby & dog

Nice rustic trail. Month of May already showing loads of wildflowers. North side of the loop is just a view of the highway & valley but south side of the loop has epic views of rabbit valley & the Colorado River

This trail had great views of the canyon. The trail was tricky to find at times. I started the other direction from the route preview. I walked along the road since the trail wasn't well kept until I reached the McDonald creek trailhead. Once I started crossing the creek back and forth, the trail got hard to find. Thankfully, I found the cairns. I lost the cairns at one point on an overlook and got way off the trail. Eventually, I made my way back on the trail with beautiful views. There's a V in the trail, and there wasn't big signs (cairns) that the path veered right to follow this route and I ended up going left which takes you back to the cow camp and walked the road back to the trailhead. Good views and not terrible.

This was a great trail! Once I got to the 'ear', I went right and preferred that since left is pretty steep! Gorgeous views of the mountains & canyon. Would definitely hike again! Trail sign said it was only 4.7 miles. The road wasn't bad at all and I didn't have any trouble in my civic.

Beautiful views… Trail bit dicey here and there… Remote and peaceful once you get in far enough

Great hike! My group went at sunrise and the views were beautiful! However, some parts of the path were hard to find, so make sure to look for the stacked rocks (cairn). I would also suggest ankle supported hiking boots or you will quickly burn out your ankles.

This place is spectacular and beautiful. Unfortunately it's ruined by ATVs and motorcycle. Admittedly, we were there on Memorial Day Weekend but it was completely packed to the max. It was unfortunate. Maybe its better mid week or off weekends. I am not sure I would go back, but it's an easy off road area and plenty of camping spots.

I started my hike at 9:00am on Mother's day. I took a lit of pictures as the wild flowers were in bloom. At the fork I went left first. There are a lot of ups and downs. The last little bit of trail to the top of the plateau was rather steep but still doable. Going around the top of the plateau offers great view and is fairly flat. The trail down was not as steep as going up. I have a fear of falling so I do not like hiking near the edge... I had no problem with this trail. after doing the full length if the trail and a picnic lunch I was back at the trail head by 2:00.

We hiked just past the fork and decided to turn around since we had my 70 year old mother with us and I was carrying a 30 pound toddler. This trail should definitely not be rated easy, but we really enjoyed what we did. Will definitely come back to do the whole thing someday.

Nice hike to see awesome views of Ruby Canyon and the Colorado River. Plenty opportunities to scramble up Sandstone formations or down drainages.

trail seems to be 7 miles with easy, moderate, and hard sections. some areas of the descent seemed dangerous. if you take loop to left you get best views, mini grand canyon like, and then turnaround and return back to shorten and improve safety. it was 96 degrees so lot of water needed. also my GPS to trailhead took me to I70 middle of nowhere. need to enter BLM from exit 2 on I 70 then follow gravel road to left for 5 miles.

Beautiful trail. Weather was mid 60s and warm in the sun. Welcome breeze on the ridges. This is an easy to moderate hike with no edges which is very important to me. Started at around 12:00 and finished at 3:00 The views are stunning! Love the bright greens in the springtime and there were flowers starting to show. I highly recommend this hike - preferably in the spring and fall and not on too windy of a day. Hardly anyone else on the trail so it is nice and quiet.

Did Steven's loop about a month ago, I think it was 2.8 miles, a lot of fun with slot canyons and a good view of the Colorado.
