beautiful!

Really enjoyed this trail. Arrived at 4pm on a Sunday. Only saw three other people. So quiet and tons of wildflowers. Didn’t see any wildlife besides birds, but the river at the end was so lovely to cool off in and relax. Also loved the cabin. Would definitely do this hike again.

We had a blast. I think it is more along the lines of moderate with the last half mile difficult. there are several down trees along the trail. there is a stack of rocks where you make your final right turn to head up to the lake. the sign is there but not very well marked. the lake is beautiful and cold. the fish weren't biteing for us but we saw others catching some. moose were spotted at the lake and on the trail.

WOW. This is definitely one of my favorite hikes and I will hope to be doing this one again before the snow flies. Loads of wildflowers and several water crossings. The trail follows the river, so there you get to enjoy the sound of rushing water the entire way. My 7 and 10 year old hiked 6 miles no problem. Lovely family friendly hike. Lots of dogs. Please keep them on a leash as we had a few encounters with some overly friendly dogs.

Pay the $7.00 to use the toilets at the campground. It is worth it and clean! Best kept vault bathrooms I've seen!

It’s a very nice trail !!

Great hike, a few steeper spots but generally easy. We saw almost no people on the trail which is increasingly difficult in the front range.

Did part of bunce in an ATV, mixed with hiking up a chunk of the road to get to the crash site. Also did pony pond as well

Many moderate obstacles and great views would recommend atleast 33’s

not for atv

Beautiful easy trail! Got there about 11:30 on a Sunday and the trail wasn't too crowded. Very shady and cool for a summer day!

Once again you can never tell what the rating system AllTrails uses.i would say the rating of moderate doesn’t seem to fit. I would rate the climb in to be difficult. The distance to be easy and the descent technically challenging. Morning rides are less packed and 5pm everyone and their brother/sister hits it after work. High traffic for sure on weekends and evening. I’ve seen lots of people carrying their bikes up hill and going ass over apple cart on the descent. Some may say it’s the line you take. There is some truth tho that.
I would tell my friends to ride it in the morning. that it’s lots of fun on the down hill and the climb is a challenge. It’s a trail short enough to do laps. Enjoy!!!

beautiful area, not sure why it is rated 'easy', it's probably a 5 to 7 on a difficult scale. ground ckearnace needed for several areas

This is a beautiful trail. Pretty easy and makes for a good walk through the woods. Would be a great trail for trail running and kiddos. Trail runs right next to the river and stays within the shade of the trees. If you’re looking for a more relaxing “hike” this is the trail.

I absolutely love this trail. Wide open plains, trails around the foothills and narrow trails through the trees up into the mountains. Riding through the foothills of Lyons is just so beautiful. I heard watch for rattlesnakes on the rocks by the trails but haven’t see any. I love it here!
IMO horses need boots or shoes for sure through some of the really rocky areas. It’s mostly smooth sailing but I still wouldn’t go without them. Parking for trailers is an easy pull through.
GPS to the trailhead was off for me it was about a mile further up ahead on the right. Almost missed the turn into the trailhead. Because I thought I had past it. I pinned it for the next time. Watch out for trail closures on the website before heading out. Closes a lot because of muddy trails after a rain. Approx 9 miles. Happy Trails!

This is one of my favorite trails.

This trail is an easy hike with a very gradual incline. It's mostly shaded with a few flowery meadows along the way. There are some great spots by the river for photography and bird watching!

Good trail for a good run. Not too rocky or steep. Perfect temperature as well. Not very busy at all. I will definitely be back.

Great trail, beautiful river and meadows. Trail mostly covered by trees so lots of shade. Will go all the way to the glacier next time.

Great hike, good views and the lake is awesome. We ended up hiking back down to a meadow to camp as options at the lake are limited.

backpacking

Went backpacking with my 14 year old son. Camped down by the creek, had a great time. not too hard. We actually took a detour and hiked down to R.P. reservoir. very nice extra hike, but too bad we could not camp there. disappointed that there was a fire ban. we were also able to shoot our 22 before and after our hike at the open range at the trailhead.

A very enjoyable hike for a Sunday afternoon. As you'll see in the trail profile, it's mostly downhill on the way out, making the return more difficult. Starts out in the shade, then goes to a couple of open meadows (bring sunscreen!). I'd suggest continuing on a bit further than the map on AllTrails displays so that you come to the river - great place to hang out for a while. Some of the trail is eroded from use/flood damage, but there's usually an "up-and-over" alternative if you look for it. The directions for "Getting There" on AllTrails are helpful. I had no trouble driving there in my 2WD lower-clearance car.

Nice trail not busy at all we seen three others all day

Great workout hike. Another one of my local favorites. The first time I did this trail I did the whole loop and did the hiker shuffle back to my car. I went up the nighthawk way and looped back down. Was a solid 9+ miles and I don’t even think I stopped. Oops. The views and scenery are amazing and I really liked the switch backs. Views are breathtaking.

Really stunning views. I went around 6-9pm on weekday. I was literally the only person on the trail. But campers were around. The road leading up is half dirt and sketchy in places for low cars. My prius was fine tho. Drive slow. The creek is pretty dry until half way in. When you get to the huge open field, keep going, until you see the trail split at the end, and go left into the next meadow. You will have to cross a broken path over the water, so you will know. Just more stunning views in the 2nd meadow too. Absolutely lovely.

Most of the trail would qualify as easy, but the trails at the northeast make up for it in difficulty in and around the crash site. All and All a fun site with a wide range of difficulty.

Great hike to the falls, but even better if you keep going! Timberline Falls was raging with water from all the snow melt. It is a great place to stop and hangout. It takes about an hour to arrive at the falls. If you continue on the trail you will head up towards Buchanan Pass and St Vrain Glacier. You can go to many sky lakes as well. The trail was fairly easy, but very rocky. Incline and decline were very gradual. Trail runs by the river all the way up. A few flowery meadows along the way. I will definitely do this hike again.

really fun my 4runner went through with ease on main trail and one of the branch off roads is when the fun started cant wait to go back!

This is a great trail trail that remains fairly flat throughout. There is a waterfall half way in which is really nice and a couple meadows you walk through with the mountains in the background. We went early in the day and saw few people. Good hike with dogs as well!
