Pretty easy hike (for a 14er). The ridge was awesome but a little scary ( make sure ur on the right side of the ridge. On side is tough and one side is safe.

A nice hike overall. I would recommend it for a day hike. It was pretty crowded by my standards. Lots of dogs on and off leash at the top. A guy smoking pot at the top too. But I managed to find a nice quiet rock to sit and each lunch and stick my feet in. The top of the hike is where you gain all of your elevation which not the best. At that point the trail is a bit eroded. It could use some basic maintenance, but manageable.

This was my 3rd 14er and probably the easiest (bierstadt and quandary). Prettier than bierstadt up top, but not as good as quandary. This is a great beginner mountain to climb. We started from the FairPlay side

Busy but beatiful! A beautiful trail with lots of wild flowers. Well worth the hike. It is in no way lightly trafficked. During peak season on the weekend the parking lot will be full and over flowing onto the road by 9am.

This is not a loop. One of my favorite trails In the area. However not a loop which makes all trails distance incorrect. I believe the point to point distance to be incorrect as well. My iPhone distance recorded almost 9 to get from fish hatchery to native lake. Not that I completely trust that to be correct although it defiantly seemed longer than AllTrails records as.

Great hike with great views. My three legged dog really enjoyed the smaller lake before Windsor

Fun! Starting above tree line takes away from the 14er experience of ascending/earning your changes of scenery, carried my 4-yr old, she hiked a good portion on her own, she didn’t like the exposure on the edge leading to the summit, and about lost it when she learned what a false summit was the hard way lol. However, a great experience for the two of us!

Beautiful hike, abundant wildflowers with some great incline near the top! Well worth the trek. Low traffic as trail nears top cuz folks bail. Lake is lovely, nestled in amid pines.

Super short and easy fourteener. Took me less than 2 hours to summit and 45 minutes to descend. Giving this 4 stars because it isn’t one of the prettiest fourteeners I’ve summited. Road leading to trailhead is rough but 2WD vehicles can make it.

The lake is beautiful and a great place to camp!

My 5th 14er. Beautiful wildflowers and the old mine buildings are cool as well. There are a lot of trails to follow and we got a little off track and turned it into an 8+ mile hike. It was very windy in places and hiking near the top with drop-offs on both sides was a new and exciting experience for me.

Beautiful walk

Easiest 14er I’ve done.

THE BEST. Completed on 7/4/18. This is an absolutely tremendous hike. Well marked and well taken care of trail. I did track closer to 8 miles than 7 however, no parts of this trail were overly exerting. At a nice steady pace and lunch at the lake, we completed in 4.5 hours. I would highly recommend bug spray for once you get to the lake. Views are jaw dropping. Wildflowers growing out the wazoo! This easily became a new favorite trail. Highly recommend 10/10.

Great hike. Short, steep, and peaceful. Please remember you entered a Wilderness Area keep your dogs on a leash, don't pick wild flowers, and if a fire ban is in place don't light a fire no matter how small.

Definitely not moderate, but hard! I loved how short it was for a change in mileage but it was VERY steep. So beautiful and worth it of course

Backpacked and stayed two nights at Windsor. Pretty short, but the incline makes it very hard with 35 lbs on my back. Not sure I would call it moderate. There are two lakes and the scenery makes the difficult climb worth it. Would be a great day hike. We had a marmot at our site and he destroyed my cork hiking poles the second night, so beware! Otherwise, a perfect weekend.

Beautiful hike! The views are gorgeous on the way up and the wild flowers were in bloom!

Completed the hike in less than 3 hours despite the intense winds (which I am assuming is “normal”) and altitude sickness (fault of my own). We started at 1:30pm and had minimal crowds. Wonderful views and challenging in some spots. Saw a few chipmunks, birds and a marmot. There are a few patches of snow that can easily be walked around. Highly recommend!

This would be a really great 1st 14er. We parked up near the gate on the road (lower clearance cars could probably make it close to there) and were on the summit within 1:30. Weather was nice so we also traversed over to Sheridan, Peerless, and Horseshoe. Great day!

Loved it. Did it 6/28. Weather was perfect and not many people up there. Don’t be mislead that it Is easy. It will still get your lungs pumping and is pretty much a walk up but there is a section near that top that will get you heart beating as you look over the ledge into a valley over 1000 feet down. Such a great one. Glad I got to do it!

Easier fourteener but still a challenge for an old man. Great views from the ridgeline to the summit. very windy much of the way up and on the ridge. needed fleece, wind breaker and gloves.

Gorgeous hike! Great with kids

Great time! My wife and I loved it. Her first drive (Wrangler Unlimited in 4H).

We started in Leadville & drove through to Fairplay. It’s not challenging, but it’s very rough / rocky. The views are beautiful.

Just hiking up the road portion makes you think you're not going to make it, but I thought it actually got easier (mentally) as you got better views higher up the trail. Pretty crowded but we started at the trailhead around 8 and got back around 11. Beautiful views once you get to the ridge all the way to the summit.

Certainly one of the easier 14'ers, but still a 14'er! There is not much easing into this hike, as you're working pretty hard within the first 100 steps. The road leading into the trail isn't terrible, but I would've been a little concerned in a vehicle without clearance. You are sheltered from the wind for maybe 1/3 of the hike, but it is very windy the other 2/3. Without gloves and ear cover (I elected a hood), I would've been very uncomfortable. The hike is quite short but very steep. I left the car at 7am, topped out at 8:30, and was back at the car at 9:30. Fantastically quick! Views are great up top and the exposure up the ridge on the summit push makes the steep climb well worth it!

Beautiful wildflowers, streams. Cool, mossy forest to start, coming out to open fields. Great way to spend 3 hours.

Did anyone lose their sunglasses on this trail? We found a pair on the trail by the lake. Describe them and they’re yours!

How is the road to the trailhead?

This was a great , quick , straight forward 14er. 1.5 hour round trip run with some great views. Lots of options and amazing views . Tons of wind as always in this area so bring a layer . Awesome day in the Rockies !
