Super easy for all ability levels. No gear needed, didn’t touch my snow shoes. Peaceful hike through the woods, not your huge vista finale.

Hard enough snow pack that snowshoes are not useful/necessary today. As always, strong winds unless you’re under tree cover.

Snowshoed this trail today. Beautiful, quiet and serene. Not many people on the trail. Great workout. I’ll hit it again.

Beautiful hike to see the changes colors of the aspen. The trail head gets very crowded so the earlier the better. We arrived around 8:30am on a Sunday and the place was already packed with cars using the side of the road for parking spots. Still, we didn't have too much trouble finding a place to park. The trail begins right off the road, make sure not to follow crowds into campground on the opposite side, you'll just have to turn around. The trail begins through beautiful pine forest but the best is yet to come. A couple miles in, the trail emerges from the woods and reveals an expansive view of the plains to the south and the mountain range farther to the west. Beautiful golden yellows and bright oranges paint the sides of mountains around you. You can keep going on as the trail descends, but once the trail enters the forest again, there are no more high points. The trails does meander its way down through a dense aspen growth but most of the leaves on these trees had already fallen, and you find yourself about the skeletons of trunks and branches with the occasional yellow leaf in its final days of grasping to the tree. We turned around here but the trail goes on for a long ways as this is part of the Colorado trail. We didn't go all the way to where the trail end is marked on the Alltrails map and the out and back took us about 5 hours.

really easy hike due to not much elevation change. we did it Oct 1st to view the aspens and it didn't disappoint. went about a mile past the "end" of the hike because it was easy and beautiful. we got there at 8 and it was already kind of crowded. when we finished around 1130, we were blown away by how many people were there. parking lot jammed and cars lining the street for a half mile both ways.

You start to get stunning views about 2 miles in when you head out of the forest and start to descend. I went yesterday (Sept. 30) and a lot of the leaves have already fallen, but there are still a lot changing yellow and orange and some are even green still on hills further away. The snow-capped peaks and valley in the distance are beautiful especially when you hike down to the bottom of the mountain. I recommend starting early on the weekends. Not too many people around 8:30 am, but super busy on our way out around noon.

Absolutely breathtaking. Very easy hike and great view of the fall color's. Went last weekend but started right before sunrise before the crowd, good thing to because by the time we got back there was more than 100 people when there was only two cars when we started. Highly recommend to keep walking the trail till you get a gorgeous view of the Valley.

Beautiful aspens as well as views of the (starting to be) snow capped mountains. Easy, populated trail with many great places for views

This is an easy out and back trail, so you can make it as long as you want. Beautiful views of the Aspens changing colors (went on September 23rd). There are a couple clearings 1-2 miles in that make for stunning views. Great hike to take out-of-towners on as it has such great views and is an easy hike!

Stunning fall colors!

The trail was clear and dry and there were stunning views of the mountains. I would consider this an easy trail. I was there September 21st and the yellow was popping but some aspens were still green, so I bet in a week or two the rest will be yellow and the orange will be popping through

Fall color foliage was decent today.

We were looking for an easy hike where we could enjoy the fall colors and as a diversion during our drive along Guanella Pass. We were shooting to make it to the ridge, and I believe we did, but we didn't really know it because there wasn't any sort of vista. It was a good hike for what we were looking for today.

Started hike on 9/18, still a bit early for the aspens on the trail but on the east side at dispersed camping grounds the Aspens were in full golden glory!

Hike today hoping for full Aspen colors but it still seems to be a bit early for this trail. There are most definitely pockets of Aspens in their full glory, but we are going to try again next weekend.

One of my favorite places for a comfy hike! Such a great view, and the wildflowers are beautiful in the spring.

Beautiful aspen forests and wild flowers (early August 2017). Great views of South Park and surrounding mountain ranges throughout. It's a bit of a reverse hike; uphill coming back. The 7 mile distance is a little misleading; this is part of the Colorado Trail, and goes on further. There are some nice campsites at about 3 miles.

Easy hike but we did not go all the way to the end either, maybe about a mile or two. It is quite beautiful, full of aspen trees and wild flowers, great for the little ones. A little bit off of the trail there is a surprise waiting for you but I won't ruin the surprise for yo to explore. The trail is also partially shaded for at least the first mile or two. Lots of bikers in the afternoon hours so be prepared to move over a little to let them pass you.

Did this trail on June 3. We only went 2.5 miles in and back, so turned around before it got steep. Two mountain bikers passed us at the 2.5 mile mark. We sae no one else on the trail. This is a beautiful trail, loaded with aspens and evergreens. Trail marked with aluminum orange and blue diamonds. It would be a great snow shoe or cross country ski trail. I will have to come back and try it. Love Como and the Boreas Pass road.

(3.4.17) Only hiked about 6 miles (3 out and back). The trail was snowy and slushy, but not too icy. I was able to hike it in boots alone, but you may want ice cleats. Those first three miles offer some good open views of the valley below.

snowshoeing
Saturday, January 21, 2017

We have been hiking in the Denver foothills the last two weeks and we've encountered so much ice. So we wanted to find a place to snowshoe that wasn't as treacherous as the icy foothills. Snow has all but melted in Denver and in the foothills. But this trail is high enough that it still has plenty of snow. The snow was hard packed from many others going before us. So it was easier than cutting a trail in fresh powder. My two companions put on their micro spikes and walked on the way back. One was exhausted from snowshoeing and the other wanted to try out her new micro spikes. We saw three other people on the trail. The trail is completely in the trees. So we were protected from some of the wind. It was snowing as we got up higher but it didn't seem to be accumulating. Glad we went!

Great hike 1 hour or so from denver. No one else on the trail and no bikers in the wilderness.

I can imagine that this hike is beautiful when the Aspens are at full bloom. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case when I went mid October. But I cannot fault the lack of colors on the Aspens because the drive to this hike was beautiful and bountiful with colors. The hike itself, depending on which route you take, can be difficult, which I enjoyed. I didn't realize that there was outdoor camping near the entrance. I'll have to make it a point to camp there next year. Perfect hike with Aspens a are at full bloom.

Great trail.great views. Go toward South Park to see breathtaking views.

A little snowy in early October, but beautiful none the less! Pretty busy after 10:00, parking was a little tricky, didn't see any bikes though. Overall a great hike, I will do it again!
