Definitely a difficult trail, especially with overnight packs and dogs. If you do bring dogs, I recommend making sure you bring lots of extra water (4 normal plastic bottles wasn't enough for mine and I had to give him water from one of my own bottles). You should also be able to pick up your dog, and it should be athletic enough to hop rocks. Despite the difficulty, the trail's beauty was worth it, and I can't recommend it enough!

I would recommend this trail for anyone looking for an easy family hike. It’s rated as moderate but it’s really super easy. Not difficult, a little windy, very easy to follow.

Fun and quick trail run, would recommend climbing up Curt’s and then down to Kids Meal.

Incredible hike for desert scenery. Definitely bring lots of water as it starts to get hotter out there. If you plan on making a loop out of the upper and lower trails by scrambling through the final arch, I would recommend doing the lower section first. If you are only doing one, I would also recommend the lower section, as I thought it was much more scenic. The scramble up through the last arch is not bad but does have some major consequences if you fall. Anyone with climbing experience will be fine and most without will also be fine as long as you have decent balance and can trust your feet.

This is a great trail. Seems longer then 13.5 miles and I know it says dogs on leash but I don’t recommend taking your dog unless it’s physically equipped for the difficulty of this bike. There are a lot of boulders and ledges you may have to carry the dog over. Bring lots of water!

So much to see and I had so much fun! Thanks for whoever put the two tips on the trail map. I really enjoyed that hike.

Interesting in some ways, tedious in others. Many trail markers damaged or down. A good trail for running. Bring water and sunscreen.

Mostly paved trail. Good after-work walk to get some exercise without a big drive, but not really a hike. Wouldn’t mind coming back with a kayak or SUP. Would definitely recommend, parks pass is needed.

Awesome views throughout the whole hike! Bring lots of water, especially during summer. I depleted the 3 liters I brought with me with still a couple miles to go. There’s only a couple spots where you have to climb, nothing too difficult. Watch out for snakes

Amazing views ! I highly recommend this at sunrise when it is enhanced by golden morning light. A decent climb but the old roadway is in great shape and you can do this in sneakers or as a run no problem. As of early May the wildflowers were gorgeous.

Short and sweet! Check out the tunnel excavated by the Civilian Conservation Core beneath the roadway. The view from the terminus of the Coke Ovens is great and I saw some awesome birds diving around the formation.

It used to be a road, so the trail is very wide with a pretty constant grade and no obstacles. Since it's in a park you're never far from a road, parking area, or facilities (which are currently closed). It is good for a beginner or someone who isn't looking for a backcountry-type experience. Good views of the Grand Valley and some nice geology.

I live in the neighborhood and was wondering why this trail has become more popular, after reading the description I see why. Great place to trail run, nice views of Gunnison River if you go far enough, but be warned- THERE IS NO FOREST!!!! I don’t know why the description says there is, BUT THERE IS NO FOREST and NO SHADE!!!

Nice steady ascent. I’m 58 with RA and 6 months out from foot surgery so I’m looking for easy or easy/moderate hikes. This was perfect and very beautiful. I arrived at 7:30 am and there were about four parking spaces available. Will definitely do again and again.
