Length: 4.2 mi • Est. 1 h 50 m
Please note: Gate may close seasonally, adding about two miles round trip to the route. The views of the mountains and rivers are breath taking especially early in the season around late May, with moose and other wildlife sightings in the area. The trail will take you along the edge of Monarch lake and into the woods were you will cross both Arapaho and Buchanan Creeks along with several runoff steams. This area is quite lovely but keep in mind that as this is a fairly easy trail there maybe a lot of traffic. The trail is made up of the Cascade Creek and Arapaho Pass Trails and its spurs, but all of the turns are well marked. It is always advisable to have a trail map of the area with you. If you are looking for fishing or a nice view to picnic the lake area and trail head are a great. Dogs are allowed on leash in the Arapaho National Forest, but check with the ranger station for any local restrictions. Remember to check in at the trail head. There are bathroom facilities as well at the trail head.Show more

From the parking lot of the Doe Creek loop, follow the wooden trail to the meadow and beyond. There are many other signs nearby indicating different Doe trail loops, this one describes the "wooden" signed loop. Follow the wooden signs until you are well past the meadow, you will see a bunch of similar, confusing signs. You will want to be heading towards the vertical incline area. The hike has minimal incline and can be treated much like a warm up. About 200 yards past the meadow back in the trees, consider it the "aerobic" zone with a 15- to 20-minute incline triggering some heavy breathing. Hikers reach an apex at the top of the hill Eventually, a gentler downward slope meanders west for awhile before creating a lollipop loop with the original path and leads users back to the trailhead.Show more

Length: 27.4 mi • Est. Multi-day
Note: this trail used to be a loop and is no longer safe to complete as a loop. The map has been update on Aug. 24 2020. Hikers suggest doing this as an out-and-back to the first lake. If you want to attempt a loop, brace yourself for an adventure and make sure to have an off-line map. Show more

This trail is not very well marked and the signs can be confusing. You can easily do this hike in one day if you leave early enough and bring food!Show more
