5/23/20: Best mountain biking trek I’ve been on. Steep initial accent from the trailhead about a mile to the entrance/overlook of Horsethief Canyon. Here there is about a 100 foot drop into the canyon (and unless you’re elite, will require a hike-a-bike down). Next it’s an awesome clockwise loop along the rim of the Colorado River and around the canyon. On the backside, shortly after turning inland away from the river, it gets technical for a short stretch. It’s in this section where you’ll cross a narrow ledge with about a 10 foot drop to your left. You do NOT want to fall here. From this point on it’s pretty smooth sailing back around to the beginning of the loop where you’ll definitely have to hike-a-bike back out of the canyon. Your reward for carrying your bike up is a downhill ride over the final mile back to the trailhead. Pretty epic ride!

This trail is amazing, but download the map because it’s very confusing in parts! I was off the trail three times with no idea until my map alerted me! I did it counter clockwise and it was stunning! Extremely exposed, so bring lots of water and leave your dogs at home on even moderately warm days!

I would rate this trail much more closer to moderate than easy. The sand and some rocky steeper places made it a little bit more challenging than say, an easy paved trail. It was also kind of hard to follow since this specific part of the trail wasn’t labeled throughout. I definitely had to use my maps. But overall, it was a nice outing for me and the dog.

I am 58 with RA and recovering from foot surgery. That being said, I loved this trail. It was so green and beautiful. The trail starts out very narrow which to me just means I have to watch my steps (to protect the ankles.). There are some trees blown down across the path that you will need to step over or go under. We made it to the loop and went right. However, within 1/2 a mile or so it had patches of muddy trail. So we turned around and hiked back out. To be fair we had not intended to hike the entire trail this time. My son was with me and would like to come back and bike it. There was one girl mountain biking, but she turned back at the same muddy spot we did. A couple more weeks and I’ll bet a lot of the mud will be dried up. We will be back.

Took the wrong trail. Followed Devil’s #1 as far as we could and ended up connected to part of the Flume canyon trail system. Finally found our way to the dirt road and had to walk back to our car parked at the Devils Canyon trailhead (close to 2 miles). Lots of trail systems out there so just beware. I’m still not sure which trails to follow for the loop and I’ve been out there 3 times now.

Great trail. A little busy with mountain bikers in some places but not too bad. Everyone was friendly and courteous. Would probably avoid peak times next time. Trail is very well marked and maintained. Parking was very full/limited.

Great for kids! My 5 year old did great! It’s long for her age, but she made it with the right amount of breaks and snacks

Great for kids and dogs, but go early to avoid summer sun and heat... there is zero shade.

This trail is a great morning or evening hike. We started the hike @5pm and it was a bit warm still, luckily there was a gentle breeze. Just a friendly warning, this trail is very exposed until the last 1/2mi, prepare yourself and littles accordingly. There were mountain bikers on the trail, however, they were all very courteous & accommodating to us hiking. Also, a shout out to my husband for packing baby the entire hike and showing up in our marriage @ a level 9! I love you babe and respect you! And yes, you random reader get to experience our personal moment. Thanks!

Perfect if you want to work on pace. Not much up and down and it comes to just over 16 mi there and back. All concrete. Beautiful views along the river.

Get there really early, this trailhead fills up with inconsiderate people fast.

Trail is alittle confusing to follow at points, but other than that, it’s a perfect loop trail! Make sure to bring plenty of water as on hot days you will be in the sun 95% of the time! Great and fun hike

Easy hike with good scenery- enjoyed that it was a loop

Great trail. Had an older dog so couldn’t do full loop. Water was dried up for the most part.
